Angle of knockback

Does anyone know how smash decides the angle of knockback when attacking a character?

I know how it calculates it from reading http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=210557

but it's not in there. Does each hitbox have a specified angle variable tied to it?
How do they get each animation to have multiple possible angles of knockback

Wait, do you not understand DI?

Directional Influence - The ability to change your launch trajectory. When someone hits you, if you hold no direction on the analog stick you will always go the same way. if you hold up, you go more up. if you hold to the side, you go more to the side. Look it up. Directional Influence (DI).

Almost* always go the same way.
Some attacks have higher or lower angles.

In the rain.
I think he meant for a given attack.

eg no matter how many times you don't DI ZSS' sideB2, it will always send you the same way.

Great feedback guys, thanks so much! Now I know they assign an angle to each attack, and I'll look up DI and how it works next
