A word of advice: To avoid flame wars, please don't cut any characters from Brawl's roster.

Note: For anyone puzzled by the presence of both Toon Link and Young Link, Young Link inherits Toon link's Brawl moveset, while Toon Link becomes full-fledged unique character.

I still tried to be fairly realistic with my choices. It helps that I don't have very many unrealistic/out there wanted characters.

Edit: Oh, and about the characters with "EX" markers: those I characters I think should/want to get "EX modes", or whatever you want to call them. Mario would get a Doctor Mario inspired EX-mode, Toon Link could have a new non-clone moveset alongside his current one, Ganondorf would get a sword/magic moveset alongside his current one, and Fox would get an EX-mode based on Falco's Melee moveset.

Professor Oak doesn't fight with Pokémons. When he enters a fight, he rips is shirt revealing a perfect muscular body full of chinese-like tattoos with Gyarados and stuff and beats the **** out of everyone with his flaming fists of doom.

Red borders indicate unlikely wants, though Sonic, Snake and Mega Man are only placed their due to third-party status (I think they have a solid chance of getting in if third-parties return, but just playing it safe for now). Forgot to put one around Pichu as well.

Palutena, Takamaru, Little Mac and Shulk are separated from the rest because while I'm not a supporter of their inclusion, they have more than earned a spot in the next Smash, so I figure they need to belong somewhere.

If this was the roster, I would never stop playing Smash 4. If we were to get an ineligible character, I would love to see Astro Boy show up as well, but of course he doesn't have any shot whatsoever.

Isn't the prediction display thread more for serious roster predictions? I think this thread is more for "if you could control the roster, what would it be" rather than "what do you think the roster will be."

Wait, we're not supposed to be realistic? Well then, I would say that would want a roster liker this. Plus Heihachi, Zero(Megaman), Paper Mario, and Pokemon team to be separate characters.

Columns assorted as following: Mario series (with Mii, who appears every now and then in Mario games); Mario series II; Characters in the Marioverse (Mario reffed in Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!); Zelda series; Characters from rail shooters; Pokémon series; Humans with cartoonesque body-shapes; Cute, puffy characters; Humans; Characters from turn-based tactical games; NES buddies; Retro vs. Brand new; Third parties.
I'd put in Mach Rider, Chrom and Shulk if I could find a proper model for them (I prefer the white-helmet, blue-shirt for Mach Rider as it'd give him more synergy with Falcon).

Here's the starting roster for my dream SSB game. 36 characters, just one more than Brawl's final roster. This isn't exactly for SSB4, but for a Smash game that would be the last in the series. (so, it might get updated with new characters)
It might be SSB4, SSB8, or SSB30. Either way, it would be for the final Smash game ever.

The final roster has over 200 characters. Not joking.

Tried to keep mine relatively tame. Didn't make too many cuts, but didn't really add anyone too crazy. I'm sure it's far from the final one, but I decided to keep some of the confirmed characters on here even if I'm not a big fan of them (Villager & WFT). The only new characters I really care about getting in are Ridley, Ray and Takamaru, but after what happened with Brawl I'm not expecting much.

Edit: After scrolling through a few other posts, I decided to expand my roster a bit to include a few individuals I forgot the first time around. Just about every franchise has a new character, and I tried to keep things at an even 60, although I doubt the roster ever gets that large. Tried to line it up so most of the original 12 would be up at the top, but I couldn't get it to quite work out that way. All the 3rd parties are on the right column.

I just went all out on mine. I added a few more characters to make it a nice square. I tried to keep it to sakurai's important to nintendo rules, as well as characters whose game I've played (my generally rule when talking about characters, with one exception):

Newcomers:

Paper Mario: The only new mario character I want to see.
Dixie Kong: She whips he hair back and forth.
Kat and Anna, Mona: Favorite minigames in the Wario Ware series.
Midna and Masked Link: Midna is just listed as Midna. Masked Link is the good old deku, goron, and zora combination.
Zero Suit Samus and Dark Samus: Zero Suit Samus is her own separate character. Dark Samus uses more destructive powers.
Alexanda Rovias: From Nintendo's first M rated game.
Lip: I never technically played her game, but I played the Yoshi Tetris Attack version.
Villager. I just made boy and girl to fill up the square.
Krystal: Uses her staff as well.
Little Mac: One of two retro characters.
Unova Trainer and Eevee: Pkmn Trainer goes by Red, while Unova goes by White: She uses a Oshawott, Servine, and Emboar combination. Eevee has this cool ability where it can evolve into one of it's form, which is determined by how it had done damage the most. resets when it gets knocked out.
Dark Pit, Medusa, Palutena: KI: Uprising is a great game. Dark Pit uses the weapons Pit doesn't use (club, cannon, claws). Medusa is my one villain add. Palutena glides.
Sami and Andy: Mainly uses a cannon on wrench respectively.
Starman: I just want a pro wrestler in the game.
Shulk and Fiora: Both use team attacks for final smash with separate teams.
Saki and Isa: One from the original S and P, the other from the sequel.
Felix and Sveta: The anti-hero from GS:TLA and the best character from DD.
Viewtiful Joe, Crono, and Lloyd Irving: All made their debut and most notable appearances on Nintendo consoles.
