One of the things about Smash I enjoyed was the ability to have 4 computers duke it out and guess who would win. It was great at Smashfests when the pizza arrived. Set up a quick 4 way free for all with level 9s and all take a guess on who would win. Some people ran forum based betting games from this.
Seems like Sakurai knew about this, as todays update is the new Spectator Mode.

As known before, matches can be recorded and sent to friends, but you can also choose the option to have game records sent to Nintendo to then be Broadcast in Spectator mode.
Before a match is played on your screen you get shown who the characters are and the stage. No names or anything identifying for the players though, as this could affect who you think might win. Why does this matter? Simple: Sakurai <del datetime="2007-11-16T07:25:49+00:00">stole our</del> had an idea to have a beting game!

Place the coins on the person you want to win, then watch the match and collect your winnings! Thhe more people, the higher your winnings are! What’s that? You ended up backing the loser? That’s okay, you’ll still get some consolation stickers for your album.
Expect some stickers to be only obtainable from this mode.

The content that is broadcast is the same for everyone spectating (if your connection timing is the same), so it should be fun to have people in different environments watch and cheer the same match.
To be shocked by impressive play, or to bust a gut laughing at some accident will be quite fun! Perhaps you can use it as reference for your own matches.
Hopefully this mode is something that even people who aren?t good at games can enjoy.
