I don't really understand how the argument for phasing out cars, especially in urban spaces, is met by some as though you're a shill for the Second Soviet Union who wants to singlehandedly control the entire population through some nebulous attack on "muh freedom", whilst others will look at you as though you just suggested publically beheading heads of state
The concept of "society without cars" being as fundamentally alien to modern society as it is is a saddening and depressing sight, and the fact that the idea of even considering that "oh maybe giant mechanical objects that tear up our roads, murder our people, poison our air and banish us from our cities should be phased out given we have the technology to do so with like, relative ease" is seen by so many as this intensely radical idea comparable to proposing "yeah let's just do terrorism" is genuinely maddening to me
