What's good, everyone!? MachoCheeze here with the Official West Virginia (the state, not western Virginia) Smash 4 Power Rankings for the 2016 Spring Season. There's been some rearranging and new faces introduced since last season.

The criteria for making this list included: In-state and out-of-state performance, head to heads with others in WV, and tournament results. Things that are not included as criteria: friendlies, money matches, anything that isn't the above criteria.

This season's rankings were decided by

SuperDavio, Van, and MachoCheeze

Van has taken it upon himself to write some wonderful bios on each of the players:

1. Jeist: Had a period of dominance throughout the winter and early spring where he was undefeated in every WV tournament he entered. Enough so that he is the undisputed #1 player, holding positive records over every other PR player in the state. Recently had taken a few losses to Bordy, an up and coming player, but not enough to dent his place at the top. Mainly plays cloud, will switch to Ike in a pinch. Look out for his counterpart, Dark Jeist.

2. Sombra: Despite perpetually cold hands, Sombra solidified himself as a premier player in WV with consistent top 3 performances in every WV tournament he's entered. The most senior member of the PR, he is not prone to upsets, showing his years of experience on the competitive circuit. Take away his gloves and leather jacket and it remains to be seen whether he'd be a shell of his former self.

3. SuperDavio: The top player in the northern section of the state, SuperDavio holds a positive record over every other PR player in the state that he's played, except the #1 player Jeist. His most notable achievements, besides taking almost every Scuffles this season that he's entered, is a trip up to Pittsburgh where he single handedly tore through the entire city's PR. As long as he's not dying at 30% with Mac, he's a threat in every set.

4. bordy: Our first newcomer to the smash 4 PR is bordy, a southern melee player who has made waves as he has transitioned to the newest game. His transition to sword characters has suited his playstyle well. Excellent at edge pressure, and having possibly the best neutral game in the state, he's stormed into recognition with wins over the #1 and #3 players in the state. Perhaps the only reason he didn't take the #3 spot is his new arrival to the game, causing him to lose sets to decent players that he has unfamiliarity with. Hates stupid dinosaurs.

5. Snake: One of the two upgrades from honorable mention status, Snake is a slippery Morgantown Yoshi player who knows his character inside and out, abusing double jump armor and his amazing off stage game, and giving his opponents very little breathing room. He's etched out a position at Scuffles, holding wins over other PR players and notably taking sets off of both Jeist and Sombra. Phenomenal performances at joint North and South tournaments where he took at least 3rd propelled him to our 5th spot. If you've played him, he's likely broken your shield at least once.

6. Van: The second HM to catapult himself into the PR, Van has traveled much more during this season and improved enough to gain the #6 spot. Capable with nearly half of the cast, he has the flexibility to switch characters and still perform well, but his most played characters remain Mario, Fox, and Yoshi. Playing a mostly reactive, and offstage-centric game, the main thing holding him back from a higher ranking are his poor records on the players above him, only holding a positive record on Snake. But, Jeist knows that he's coming for that top spot.

7. Gonzie: The triple threat terror of the north, appeared at Scuffles brackets last season, regularly taking first place in Smash 4, Melee, and PM. Despite his strongest game being perhaps PM, he has strong fundamentals that carry over to each game, which shows in his retention of a PR placement, despite a small drop.

8. Zenaga: A main crisis has plagued him throughout this season, but it hasn't decreased the potency of his 5th place curse. Regardless of bracket difficulty, be it Marshall Smashers, or AFK (besides this latest 17th place aberration) Zenaga will always be the model of consistency in WV. His calm, zoning based playstyle and penchant for fireballs causes lower level players to struggle against him. Be ready for expletives if you beat him.

9. MachoCheeze: After finally dropping the ball of Cheeze that was his original main of Pac-Man, Macho has found happiness in his beloved stupid psychic cat, Mewtwo. Perhaps the biggest lab rat of all of WV smash, he has an innate knowledge of weights, combos, and frame data that he utilizes in his cerebral playstyle. Though he still struggles at times with disjointed characters, he has pushed though to consistently place in the top 9 in every bracket he's entered this season, peaking at 3rd place at a recent Marshall Smashers. Don't ask him what he thinks about Cloud. (Yo, **** Cloud)

10. RedFox: Breaking into the scene thanks to his 2nd place performance last season at Smashtown 2, the Sonic main from the north has struggled a bit at the small, but dense, Scuffles brackets, but has still kept respectable placings there and at AFKs he has traveled to. Those below him were "just too slow", enough so that RedFox will retain his #10 spot on the PR, ensuring his unorthodox Wiimote and Nunchuck will keep his speed obsessed rodent running into the spotlight.

HM. Ghost™: The undisputed best doubles partner in the state, Ghost™ is know for his trademark YOLO Ganon style, rife with up tilts and boots to the face. Appearing from nowhere as a For Glory warrior, he came to southern WV and immediately began taking names, holding wins in bracket over many of WVs PR players including the current #1. He travels very little however, which kept him as an honorable mention.

HM. Prometheus: Our last newcomer to the WV PR as an HM is a Motown player who has rolled right up the Scuffles rankings. Playing a zoning based Link with appearances throughout the season in finals, he has steadily improved to the point that he can consider himself among the elites of the state.

It was a super fun season with a lot of changes, upsets, and good tournaments. A lot of our players are graduating and moving onto real life, but they're always welcome back to the WV Smash scene anytime they wanna come through!

LET'S GO RICK

At least I can say I was beaten by a top 12 player. I'm gonna try to introduce some of my buddies from central WV into the tournament scene. Look out, we're coming!
