Wow, I might not even play as Samus anymore

I have always loves Samus since SSB, where I didn't even know who she was and only played as her because she looked cool, to SSBM, where I played Super metroid and Prime which made me love Samus even more. But now I seriously might not play as Samus often anymore. She was fine in Melee, she was almost perfectly balenced with almost all of her attacks having a use.

But now Samus it seems that, according to Famitsu and multiple demo-goers, she has received many unneeded and completely rediculous nerfs to some random melee moves and all of her ranged moves and her model is alot bigger. Her charge shot now kills Mario from the middle of FD at about 120 damage with no DI and it has less range. Thats pretty weak seeing as her Back air is stronger. Plus her missiles now have less knockback, less damage, and the knockback it does have is upward.

Samus is THE ranged specialist in Melee and now her ranged moves are nerfed badly. It just makes no sense.

This is bad enough but I probably would have still played as Samus even with these nerfs if it weren't for ZSS being included as a forced transformation after a move that I was looking forward to since I heard of it. There might be a way to avoid transforming but no mension to it has been made.

Sure, I can turn off Smashballs but maybe I want to have a fight over the item so that I can use an amazingly cool final smash move. Then it all gets ruined because I get forced to turn into a character that I don't want to play as and there is no way to change back until another smashball appears, and even then it's not garaunteed.

I hate to say that I might not play as one of my favorite characters but when they get to the point where the thing that should be their specialty gets horribly nerfed and I am forced to play as another character if I want to use Final Smashes (which I do).

*sigh*

She is by far my best character in SSBM, and I am 100% sure I will hardly play her in Brawl.

Her new play style is something I don't feel like getting used to, especially since I have no personal connection with the Metroid Prime (or any Metroid) games.

Now Snake...that's different. :)

That sucks, Samus was a good all around character. I'll probably give her a try when i get brawl though, the nerfs might not be that noticeable.

Her missiles and shot have only been downgraded so that they aren't killing moves anymore. The knockback was nerfed, not the damage.

Given the slower pace of this game, she might still be decent.

No, she won't play like Melee, but that doesn't mean she'll suck.

Wah?

You could just save that FS for the last stock, to finish them off.

And geez, ZSS is supposedly a great character, and you're just brushing her aside like its nothing? You'd still have good range with that whip she has.

Instead of dropping a character you enjoy playing, why not embrace her as she is, and learn another play style while you're at it? I don't think you're realizing how amazingly versatile the ZSS transformation makes Samus as a whole. You haven't played the game yet either, so make sure you give her a chance before you write her off. This is Brawl, you just don't know how effective things will be, even if they're nerfed. Samus has changed, and you should change with her.

Either that or just play Melee forever.

This is not so much a real characternerfing problem. This is about a new game, which overall will take (especially us, the more or less technical experts of melee) alot of getting used to. I can see why you don;t like the changes to samus. I though that, aside from the power missle trajectory, samus' moveset was awesome. But since the game has a very different pace, it might turn out other than you expect.

We should all try to let melee go with brawl in foresight. I will most likely play melee even after i play brawl aswell, because it's just so technical and fast. Brawl will have it's own merrits, so look forward to that and dont focus on the nerfs and that stuff.

TRY SSBB before you just give up. And aren't you the same one who said that you hate ZSS? It seems like your favorite character has become your worst enemy and you have not even tried her out yet. In the "I Hate ZSS" thread you said that you should play as the character that is like you and now you are abandoning that.

XDD killing moves, could there be a possibility of taking away samus "killing moves" ??...
even more than what she has in melee...

...dont complain people about samus being differente, samus hasnt been the same on smash64 as she was on melee, why should she keep being the same...its just going to be starting from 0 with her from now on
but the mindgames and experience one got in melee should stay for good, and the learning in brawl will be faster...

i for the personal am going to stay as her since she is my best in melee and has given me alot of good moments and really intense matches in tournaments down here in the valley ^.^

meh even with her specials receiving nerfs there have also been the buffs here and there (her back air is one, which i use alot) so she will remain my main. The one thing I will miss though is juggling a guy only to let him drop enough to hit him with a charge beam at 80% for a kill... that I will miss...

The 'Samus Under Construction' was your combo video? Dude, that thing was one of my favs for a good while...props. I use Samus competitively, too. Bit of an under-rated character, still gets counterpicked by nearly every character in the game...but I digress...

[inspirationalmonologue]Samus' projectile game in Melee was too good. Literally half of your game could be projectiles and you'd do just fine...same with Link...Young Link...Peach...Doc...but a character's projectiles SHOULD NOT be that good, it's just not balanced. For a Samus semi-pro like me (and I'm guessing mah buddy majoras as well), Samus's "nerfs" will show true colors. Accepting change, accepting weakness, and learning ways to work around them - this is Gimpyfish 101, people. Samus's change makes the character, who was by far the most fun character to play as in Melee (for me), a new and exciting challange to explore and master.

I, for one, am glad that everyone thinks Samus is bad. What better way to awe with her hidden potential?[/inspriationalmonologue]

samus nerfs are dissapointing yet but you will adapt to it... if u went from not using missiles in ssb64 then went to using missile spamming in melee then u can get used to not using them in brawl.. just practice dont give up just because 2 moves are nerfed..

Ranged attacks let u attack fomr distances. So making ranged attacks stronger than close range attacks doesnt make much sense in fairness. Usually melee attacks in all games r stronger than projectiles unless its some like super projectile otherwise ppl cna jsut sit back and spam projectiles. If ur gona give up cuz u cant spam projectiles and kill ppl with it, then ur not much of a fan if all u cared about was kiling ppl easily from distances.

Your dropping your fav character and you havnt player her yet? jeez luweez.

Samus is my fav Nintendo char by far and I will main her even if she is as good in SSBB as Boswer was in SSBM (but im sure she will ick ***)

And you wont even try Zamus out? Thats one of the reasons I'll keep maining Samus, Zamus is to Samus as Sheik is to Zelda, she may in fact be better than Samus

I don't think people have problems with her being different. It's that she may be worse. If you recall, 64 Samus was ****, and honestly, I think it's valid to fear that Samus would be worse.

I'll probably stay with Samus, but I may be more inclined to play with Zamus.

Sorry to break it to ya, but she's pretty bad now... Notably, Super missiles are very hard to cancel to hit the chest area and homing missiles blow up on platforms(very annoying, plus they're pretty slow), AND her Nair literally has no knockback. I'm not exaggerating about her Nair...

Her Bair is still pretty beefy though. But in all she's just... a lot slower and bigger.

In light of recent Dojo updates, you can get a smash ball, press up+down+up on the D-pad to shed your armor, then Crystal Flash to get the suit back.

I'm also under the impression you can do it again and switch back to Power Suit Samus. So if I'm right, then you could do the Zero Laser final smash... then do the up, down, up thing really fast and get your suit back.

Samus does have a really good final smash though (I'm unsure how good Zero suit samus is though >_>). Unless you've actually played the game and have gotten to test her for a reasonable amount of time, I wouldn't start saying "I'm not going to play Samus anymore." I haven't even seen many video's of her and yeah I know she has gotten some nerfs, but this is Brawl and she could be played more differently from Brawl >_>. A lot of people don't play Sonic correctly and I've seen very few people do so >_>.

Having actually played the game and both characters, I ironically feel Zero Suit is the better character, if only because her defining characteristic helps her out much better. Samus's non-projectiles hit harder to make up for her weakened projectiles, but ZSS just feels better in that regard.

when you use your final smash you can just turn right back into samus, check it out on the dojo, and have some loyalty for crying out loud

Actually, it looks as if you can't change back into Samus on command, despite what the dojo makes it sound like. As of now, it appears that it's a one way transformation; the only way to change back is to grab a Smash Ball as ZSS.

I brushed off an old, unused account to say this:

I agree with the TC, in that just looking at Brawl and hearing reports I will probably not play Samus as much. This is not because I expect her to play a certain way based on Melee or SSB, but because I expect her to play a certain way based on Metroid itself. As a matter of fact, if I were comparing Brawl to Melee alone I would probably say Samus got an upgrade, based on the "killing moves nerf" she got that others have mentioned. But if you say to look at it without Melee in mind at all, then I must necessarily say Samus does not look like she is going to be a faithful representation of my favorite video game character.

I don't understand that. She's more accurate a depiction of the Samus Metroid fans have come to know and love than Melee or 64 Samus was. Though minor differences they may be, I find that lots of small changes have made her more like her Metroid self than Melee or 64 did. Some examples include how her bombs no longer explode on contact, her more powerful (nonhoming) missiles are now Super Missiles (aesthetically speaking), and her added bulk more accurately resembles her similarly bulky appearance and in some ways limited moving ability in the 3D games.

Like I said, it just looks like she's less accurate, based on reports that her projectiles are not so useful. If they still prove to be the focus of her playstyle then she's the Samus we all know and love, but it doesn't sound like she's being designed that way.

Wow, I completely agree with you Xarias! Samus is a great character to use and if she was among your favorites in melee then why not at least grow with her in brawl. My mains in melee are Link and Samus and when things weren't working out with Link (which was very rare) I could always rely on Samus as my comeback kid! So before you write off her as a failure you should 1. stop being childish cuz things are exactly as you want them to be (we can't get what we want all the time) and accept her for what she has become or 2. Play melee for the rest of your life.

Who says we're being childish? What if we enjoyed Samus in previous games because of her similarity to the Metroid incarnation (for instance, when my cousin played Samus for the first time in Melee, he said "wow, she plays exactly like in the first game!" referring to her floatiness), and because evidence shows a decreased emphasis on her projectile game we have decided that this is no longer the Samus we want to play?

Why is that childish, and why is everybody getting their panties all bunched up because we have standards that we are speculating may not have been met that do not apply to anything else? Do I need to repeat myself here? Speculating. Speculating.

I main Samus and I might not main her again for several reasons.

I generally don't like her look in Brawl, she seems bigger and out of proportion.
Her ranged moves have been severely nerfed.
She can hardly bomb jump, which hurts her recovery.
She sames slower.

And most of all there are several other characters that weren't in Melee there to try out, so it wouldn't be much fun limiting myself to a character I knew so well in Melee.

Frankly, she was out of proportion before. She's supposed to be over six feet tall, but she was far shorter than that in Melee.

Samus IS STILL a good character, try playing more with her, not the end of the world, it's a game.

I found Samus to be really good in Brawl, she's just different to the new physic engine.

Why are people getting so anal about people not wanting to main Samus? Made you guys should take your own advice, it's not the end of the world, some people just don't want to main Samus again, if you don't like it you can sue them.
