I almost always use the default color, if I'm not playing Zelda, then I'll be blue.

I originally used just black falco, but I kind of don't care as much about the colour anymore.

I always use the Toon Link with brownish hair, different coloured tunic and brown shirt arms. My Captain Falcon is always white and pink.

I occationally have tough calls like: Saturn-Ness, or Bumble-Bee-Ness; and Lavender-R.O.B. or Drone-R.O.B.

If I can't get the color I want, I don't play the character! And the more purple, the better! So, Luigi > Mario, Wolf > Fox > Falco.

...Every now and then I'm weak and I do white: Angel Bowser/Metaknight, and Honkemon Trainer.

Edit: Yes, I'm a huge nerd, and I have unique nick-names for every costume I play for every character I play.

I use black alternate colors. except for Pit (my main). Because everyone uses black Pit, I stand out by using Gold Pit.

I don't have a single color I use on all characters, but I do have preferred outfits I use on each of those I generally play:

Lucas: Purple.
Marth: Light blue.
Ike: Gold & black (makes him look like his father, Commander Greil).
King Dedede: Purple, sometimes blue.
Sonic: Default and gold.
Lucario: Default (don't like any of his alternates).

Lets see, for other characters...

R.O.B.: Gold.
Link/Toon Link: Blue.
Zelda: All of them except green.
Samus/ZSS: Gravity Suit.
Fox/Falco/Wolf: Blue.
Olimar: Gold.
Pit: Light blue (gives him blue wings).
Luigi: Waluigi.
Mario: Jumpman (blue).
Pikachu: Goggles.
Diddy: Purple, blue, and default.
Wario: Classic outfit (default version).

For the rest I tend to just use the default look.

I like either the hot pink ones, red ones, "dark" ones (like Dark Link or Dark Pit), and the super shiny white ones (Marth, Bowser..)

No specific color (I'd say most common choice would be purple/black, but that's not always the case (ex. green Luigi and white Marth, respectively).
