Sad to see you leave dude, but you can always drop me a text or fb message to come chill sometime, not been yours in agesssI think the recent posts on this thread have eventually sorted out my direction with smash. For a while now I have been debating whether to host SNY2 aswell as remain active within the melee community. I have always focused upon the merits of using melee as a vehicle to befriend people and the ability to first socialise and then play the game. However, recently I have noticed active members of the community (at large) don't hold this similar attitude.
This, rather limp, thread is evidence and justification of my feelings.
I am, eventually and thankfully, done with smash.

LOL This post seems like it was partially aimed at my post with me saying that I would rather get host by Yeniths because I would be playing smash afterwards.I think the recent posts on this thread have eventually sorted out my direction with smash. This is a rather bemusing post. I haven't hosted any tournaments, except SNY1, in over two years (potentially three?) :s. SNY1 was more of a long term ambition and challenge for myself, as, from the start of being involved in the melee community I have always wanted to host a large European tournament. Moving to Birmingham give me the ability to finally fulfull that.Ed- The problem is when you say you're going to host a melee tournament, for some bizare reason people tend to think that the point of it is to have a melee tournament. I think if prof (or whoever) would have known you better then they'd be up for going out to see some friends but as a smasher the main reason is to play smash.
SNY1 was still a really good tournament and you're still a really good host, which I think a fair amount of people will admit but sometimes I can't understand why you host events. You say to meet up with your friends but do you really need a smash tournament to meet up with your old mates?
Thats my point, of course you don't need to host tournaments to see old friends which is why I get confused sometimes as to why you still host things like SNY. You don't seem too arsed about playing melee and you can meet up with some old friends, but you'd have to sort out about a hundred different things at the same time. Do you just really enjoy hosting? Either way I think it's fine if you don't want to host if you're not enjoying it anymore- thats just common sense anyway, I just don't get why you bother with the community aside from seeing some friends that you can just see anyway. This is a rather bemusing post. Do you think that in three years that I have not (outside of SNY) hosted tournaments I haven't seen any of my 'old friends' that I have made through this game? Don't be daft Ben, of course I have., I see them AS FRIENDS; not smashers. I regularly meet up with people and spend money and time travelling to see them all around the UK.
My point was (for you again Ben) that this isn't the community that it used to be. It used to be somewhere that I could enjoy a hobby AND make friends. You don't have to go to smash events to just play smash Ben. I just don't see my involement in this community leading to the friendships I have made previously. This, obviously, can due to alot of factors (and I am aware many are changes within me).
My post wasn't in reference to Aaron. I don't have anything to do with him.
I was down the pub last night with Kate and we started to discuss SNY2. Our discussion resolved on my lack of enthusiasm for hosting it and the necessity of me deciding to go ahead with it soon (in order to open signups). Kate basically asked me to justify why I would host it. I couldn't. For the reason I posted.
I just referred to recent-ish posts in this thread as an example of why I am not hosting SNY2 or being involved in smash tournaments anymore.
As you said Ben; I don't need to host smash tournaments to see old friends lol
on thats fine, I was just really curious. I had no idea you enjoyed just hosting events but then thats coming from me who gets a nercous meltdown when I host a tournament.Re-read my post. If you still don't get it Ben re-read it again.
Also, on the hosting side of things, I am a teacher? Hosting a tournament is so much like my job (which I enjoy). Need I say more?
Fair enough, I thought you were going since you were willing to house people for this but fair enough lol.Prof: I was never going to this event in the first place. I didn't go to the previous one. Its 6 months away. They can re-coup their holidays and use them elsewhere. It isn't like they are getting a week's notice.
Maybe on your death bed which is in about 2 months you can tell me what this was going to say.edit - long for arguments, prof sux etc etc
