Occasionally, I notice CPUs or myself getting released asap after a successful grab, so I tried so get that recorded since I haven't seen any information on that subject.

In this example, the Falco is a CPU and I'm the Sheik.
This is footage of 20xx, so I'm unsure if it, and whatever you have to do to execute it, works in the original.

The only additional information I can give, is that it worked for me after getting grabbed in the air too, so it doesn't seem to be restricted to being on the ground.

Your grab hit his attack at the same time and they cancelled I think, like when 2 attacks hit eachother perfectly. I dunno don't listen to me I'm a noob.

Hmm okay, I made a gfycat to make frame advances easier.

It seems like the Falco is airborne on the frame I grabbed him and he has 2 frames to put out a hitbox, so I don't think a hitbox from Falco, other than shine, could've been out on that point in time.. right?
I've tried to recreate the situation with TAS tools, but a shine at the same time seems to outprioritize a grab from Sheik... so I'm a little bit confused, if that's the case.

In a world of my own devising
So, Fox and Falco have a weird property on one of their getup rolls that causes them to slip off of any edge that they roll towards. I think what is happening here is you grabbed them on the frame (or I guess the frame after from the gfy) they slid off the stage. Normally this puts them into one of the grabbed states, but because they were in the air and you were slightly in from the ledge your position on the stage wouldn't allow that transition so the grab auto broke.

Interesting.. that may actually be it in this case. I'll try some more to get the other weird grab situation recorded.

Yup. Another common scenario that C Codey mentioned was when you get hit out of grabs, which happens for diff reasons.
