So, that being said, what are some key things I should learn with Samus?

Any good strategies?

Tips would be great! Thanks!

Glad to see another prospective Samus player! Go through Dryn's guide at the top of the page. It's a really good read.

some important samus specific techs to learn ^^:
zairing (learn different timings)
missile cancelling (learn to cacel homing missiles and super missiles and mix the two) (and learn to cancel from platforms)
using the tether to stall at the ledge (drop-> tether)
doubling homing missiles and zairs in a full jump
bomb jumping (should be the first thing you do in recovering because it saves your jump)
charge shot cancel
learn to zair, fair, uair from ledge...
pivot grab

anyways, welcome to samus boards ;)

Some general things you should know:

-Zair, super and homing missiles, and all of her aerials have no or very little landing lag. This makes platform landing/dropping your best friend for spam. Homing missiles are, for the most part, better than supers, since they come out much faster.
-Samus has an excellent off-stage game but overall has very low-knockback attacks, so you're going to get the earliest kills by gimping. Dair is the only move you should expect to frequently kill with below 120%. But her best kill moves in general are bair, dtilt, the Charge Beam, and an air-bound-target utilt, as well as the harder to land fsmash.
-Ftilt, dtilt, dsmash, and Screw Attack are really good out of shield and will replace her slow shield grab most of the time.
-The grab jab (AKA the Chozo Chop) is great for negating move decay.
-Screw Attack is amazing, especially on stages with high platforms like Battlefield in which Samus's free fall will end immediately by landing.
-Zair can be pulled off as a ledge hop attack easily in almost every stage by air dodging as you jump onto the stage and then zairing once you've passed the ledge (this doesn't work in stages with one-way pass-through platforms like Delfino Plaza and Halberd).

yeah, dair would be the best move against him since he is small and it does good damage. same with dtilt. i didnt find missiles and zair too usefull because he is so agile and will slip them. you can predict a shorthop approach though and sh instant zair. and you can dash attack to uair/screw attack him for some damage. his recovery is weak so if you manage to push him a little farther ouside with zair hes done for, also you can predict his course of recovering and go in for a spike!
