Do you like competitive battling? In an attempt to breathe some life into this dying wasteland known as the Poke Center, allow me to introduce a new community competition/collaboration known as...

TEAM POKE CENTER vs POKEMON SHOWDOWN /caps

OBJECTIVE
The overall goal of this project is simple: bring the PC's best and brightest competitive battlers together to create the best competitive team this board has ever seen and dominate the Pokemon Showdown Generation V OU ladder. No gimmicks, no personal favorites, no BS. We're doing whatever we have to as if we're going for #1 on the ladder. First we will collaborate to create the team (this will be the most difficult and time consuming part), then we will all test the team to make proper adjustments, then once the team is finalized we will all ladder with it to rank as high as possible. The person who ranks the highest is the "winner."

QUALIFICATIONS
**** the qualifications... If you play/have played competitive Pokemon just join.

RULES
The rules of this project are simple: All I ask from everyone participating is to be able to collaborate with others in a (semi) civilized manner. Debates are bound to break out during the team building process and I know a lot of us here like to poke fun at each other but just keep everything CIVIL. Failure to do so will result in the termination from this project.

Interested? Of course you are! Just verbally say you're interested in the comments below and I will add you to the participants list. Once we get a decent number of people we can begin the team building process. Keep in mind you can join at any time you wish as long the team we will be laddering with has NOT been completed yet.

PARTICIPANTS LIST
1) The Real Gamer
2) IceArrow
3) Ultimario
4) Circa
5) Riddle
6) Kirbyraeg
7) Mood4food
8) atangerine

I'm in! Qualification is stupid though for Poke Center players like Ulti, Gates, Wave, CRASHiC, and me.
Yes it is stupid for those of us that are familiar with each other. But we have to be fair to those who we aren't familiar with as well.

Plus it's not like it'll take a long time or anything... Just throw a team together and ladder for about half an hour and you should be good to go.

CRASHiC hasn't played a real match in 2 years and I'm sure Wave hasn't played that much recently either. Gates quit and isn't coming back.

My max ladder ranking outside of provisional was like 2008 or something like that (Top 5 at the time IIRC) and the highest in-provisional was in the 2300s (I screenshotted this, I'll find it eventually and upload it I guess). I don't have an alt right now over 1750 since I've been doing stuff to **** around with experimental teams on a single account recently, but I could grind something 1900+ real quick with some random team if I need a good out of provisional pic

Ill add you to the list Ulti. I think I'm gonna make the requirement about 1600-1700. Shouldn't take too long to reach.

Once we get a couple more people we can start.

Feel free to notify anyone who might be interested in this so we can get to teambuilding ASAP. I think this will be fun.

Terys first post on the PC in a while lol. You should join this Tery. Once Gen 6 comes out hopefully more people return to this community or enter the community. Hopefully it doesn't get worse.

Lol @ CRASHiC CIrca and Tery all coming back within the span of a week.

**** is getting real.

It's like the Poke Center's version of the Expendables... Minus the kicking ass and whatnot.

Ha. I literally have no experience in this game anymore. I never did anything regarding actual skill to begin with.

Honestly...even though I haven't played in ages (put me in the camp of people who got majorly turned off by 5th gen), I still think this is awesome and would almost be willing to do it if I knew I wasn't going to be dead weight.

Give me a couple of days to build a team and try my fortune at the ladder that I've always been so terrible at running, I suppose.

Damn you Will for putting me in the spotlight and nearly forcing me into this.

The more the merrier.

And it really doesn't matter if the team ends up sucking or whatever (which it won't). This is just supposed to be for fun above anything else.

Ill add you to the guys to the list once I get back from work.

5 people is good enough. You literally just need to win 3 games and you make it lol.
My problem, as kind of demonstrated in every past tournament in the PC ever, is that I tend to always lose my first game against someone. It usually pans out pretty badly in ladder as well.

Regardless, I now won't be able to do it until tomorrow at the earliest. I woke up to power outage and I work tonight. :/

It doesn't really matter lol. Everyone who has shown interest in this project are all well known people in the Poke Center.

One thing I want to get off my chest before this starts.

What happens in every CCaT:
"Let's use something **** because it's more fun to build a team around something that's different!"

What will not happen in this CCaT:
"Let's use something **** because it's more fun to build a team around something that's different!"

We are not using random BL/UU/RU/NU things because we can.

There ARE some exceptions, seeing as there are some Pokemon that are legitimately very good in OU but simply do not have the usage to be OU. Good examples include Hitmontop, Mienshao, Wobuffet, and Bronzong. These are the kind of things I won't care about us using in OU. But if I see people recommend stupid 100% unviable **** like Darmanitan and Nidoking, I'm going to slap them silly.

Edited the OP since the qualifications are pretty much pointless since no new people have shown interest. Riddle, Circa, and Kirby welcome on board! If Tery gives confirmation that he'd like to join he'll be added as well.

Let's start the team building process! What kind of team are you guys interested in laddering with?

My personal votes:
1) Sand offense - Some sort of offensive sand team that revolves around Tyranitar and Landorus-I. Landorus is easily a top threat in this current metagame in terms of sweepers thanks to a very small amount of counters it has. Those that do stand in the way of a Landorus sweep are most likely pursuit trapped by Tyranitar. It's popular, it's effective... It just works. Only major issue is that since it's such a popular archetype a lot of top teams on the ladder will be prepared for it, and Landorus I is so good it's currently being suspect tested.

2) (Any) Rain team - Whether it's stall, balanced, or offensive, rain teams are always good when built properly. A lot of really good pieces to potentially build around such as Specs Keldeo, CM Jirachi, Toxicroak (VERY underrated Pokemon... It's anti-meta as **** atm), Tornadus, etc. Plus good support Pokes like Scizor, Ferrothorn, and Rotom-W really shine in rain.

3) Trick Room - If we want to go with the anti-meta route that will take many teams on the ladder by surprise this would be it... With the prevalence of offensive teams in today's meta Trick Room teams are really starting to shine and aren't simply gimmicks anymore. A lot of top teams atm are Trick Room teams. Unfortunately it's not as solid of an archetype as the above two though and will most likely be the toughest to properly build.

4) Hyper offense - Threw this in there because this is the only non-weather archetype that actually works, plus HO teams are always bad ass.

Feel free to throw in more ideas guys. Oh and anyone who suggests a weatherless team that isn't hyper offense will not be taken seriously by me. Those teams just flat out don't work.

I'll also add that I'd prefer not to go with a Sun/Hail team if at all possible. I've always felt Sand and Rain teams are much more solid archetypes to build around. I'll listen to some good Sun Team suggestions but hail... Ehh that will take some convincing.

Oh and for educational purposes here's a current list of the top 100 Pokemon currently being used by the top players on the OU ladder (the players with a rating above 1850... the ones we actually care about). For those of you unfamiliar with the current metagame this list should help give you an idea of what we'll be going up against.

Does Smogon's RMT section still archive teams that are believed to be extremely sognificant for one reason or another? I'm on my phone and at work right now so I can't check.

I remember they had this with 4th Gen, and I always dreamed of making a team that would end up there...

...so I guess my vote and nomination would be whatever gives us a snowball's chance in hell at ending up there. :x

Not Trick Room.

I couldn't care less what sort of team we build as long as its not gimmicky. I have a defense bias, but I recognize that defensive teams are generally less effective 5th gen, and I'd be comfortable building and using any standard team archetype.

@Dustin Yeah RMT archive still exists.
