Hmm, I've been interested in this for some time now. Mind if I take a look at the blend file? I'd like to try a few things.

EDIT:
Did a bit of editing to the file myself and noticed a few things.

You used a spotlight pointed directly downward. That's the first mistake a lot of people make (I did too once). It's better to start out with a 3 point lighting set up. Keep in mind that the main light is brighter than the fill light; the main light should be on the side of the subject that is closer to the camera (in this case it's Marth's left side). I like to use mesh lights rather than the actual light objects Blender provides for the sake of the renders. Light objects create ray traced shadows which take away from a bit of the lighting.

It looks like you added random specs to different parts of the model, interestingly on the skin. If you want to do that you're gonna need an appropriate spec map made, but even then the effect is very subtle. There were spec maps amongst the textures you could've used although they're standard greyscale. Color specs look nicer but take some more time to make by hand to get right. You can just use the node setup as a workaround in the blend file though. It helps to keep consistency when you need to do recolors.

The eyes were the most concerning to me; my suspicions were correct when I saw the white, iris, and highlight were not set to their corresponding UVs. They were even set to mix as shaders rather than mixing as RGB layers.

Other than all that I made a few adjustments to the pose (the tilt of the head was a little odd). I'll send you the edited blend file when I fine tune it. It should be useful for learning a bit more for rendering. If I invested more time into it I would probably get closer to what I do for our Smash 3 renders.

the costumes here work exactly like ones made for vbrawl, so yes they technically are compatible.
Okay. I was just wondering if they would create any issues, since I remember Pit's up-B glitching out (he'd teleport all over the stage) when I used the old Smash 3 Pit with PM 3.5, and I was wondering if any issues with stuff glitching out could occur.

Or was that just a general glitch with Pit's Up-B in PM 3.5?

Best way to figure it out would just be to test it yourself. It's not like mods are irreversible or anything.

True.

I'll try testing stuff out with the original Smash 3's Roy, just because he's the most radically different from his PM incarnation.

And if it works, may I suggest tackling Brawl Minus!Pichu at some point? Potentially with improvements on his Maractus, Plusle, and Minun skins?

Brawl Minus with Smash 3 textures? Now THAT is a great idea. Someone get this man a medal. Imagine what would happen if we added cbliss into the mix. I'd love to see that. Brawl Minus is my jam.

I have a smash 3 styled pichu. I just have to render it.

Result of Brawl Minus testing: Everything seems to have turned out just fine. No real issues aside from, at least theoretically, some slightly disjointed hurtboxes (Brawl Minus Roy is slightly shorter than PM Roy. I think the top of Roy:Minus' head is at Roy:M's hairline)

And we don't even need cBliss for Roy and Pichu. You can add extra costume slots for them with BrawlEx's configuration tool. And it might be possible to do the same with characters from the base game by creating BrawlEx fighter data for them.

I just realized that I have no idea how to use BrawlEx.
Brawl Minus uses BrawlEx for its clone engine right off the bat, so you just need to open the fighter config file with the BrawlEx Config Utility. Go to Private\Wii\App\RSBE\pf\BrawlEx\FighterConfig in your Brawl Minus folder things. Fighter3F is Pichu and Fighter40 is Roy. There will be a series of check boxes for colors.

As a side note, do you guys or the original Smash 3 team have any intention on fixing up any of the original Smash 3 skins? Because some, like Mario and Toon Link, looked kinda flat and untextured, while others, like Link's hat, were kinda ugly.

You should probably head over to the Smash 3 thread and catch up there. Many of the characters are receiving texture changes which, I admit, have been done for months now. The thing is we want to release the final update with everything at once. So don't worry, their textures will be updated and I personally like how they look. We only have maybe 3 unreleased characters that need finishing up but a lot of the team is either busy with work, school, unmotivated, doing other projects, or all of the above. We appreciate everyone's patience on the matter and I hope to make this update the best out of all of them. For more reasons than you think.

Awesome. Actually, I think I was helping with re-doing some of the stock icons so they weren't pillow-shaded.

And as for a suggestion for some of the recolors: Brawl Minus has a red skin for sonic inspired by Knuckles, a black one inspired by Shadow, and a green one inspired by the old Ashura glitch from Sonic 2, (specifically based on the fan-made design that Cylent Nite did way back when).

I should also note all the recolors and model designs we have are final. Besides Sonic already has 14 slots; that's more than anyone out of the entire cast and again we're not changing any of them.

I meant for the 3C stuff.

And I just noticed that 3C already has Knuckles and Shadow covered (sans the stripes for Shadow)

Sorry for the double post, but I just realized that the Tails skin for Sonic seems to lack hands and a nose.

i like it but the pose in mach 7.6's render is much closer to the artwork
Aww, thanks....I try hard when posing stuff.
Here's the thing though, I can't import it into blender and I'm pretty sure we're using the same model here...jaystring's import if I'm not mistaken...

I get that people are busy, but is there any % completion? I think like half a year ago you guys said around 75%.

You need rename the file Objects in brawl box. Blender dislike the name with the space.

Percentage complete: 70 - 97.287%

Aka it's an arbitrary measure of progress. Rest assured that those of us capable of doing the work that's left are working toward completion. Keep in mind, we have lives, some busier than others. We work when we can.

I tip my hat to you, good sir, for explaining something I could probably never understand unless I compulsively studied BrawlEx threads in a simple post. Not sure why I can't seem to understand those threads, but that's not the point. I shall now go to use this knowledge to break some limits. Sorry for the bad pun.

Please forgive me if this has already been done, or if I am not supposed to suggest things here, but I had a nice recolor idea that I thought I would share. I think it would be awesome to create a Smash 3 style fire mario alt. that pays homage to fire mario in Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES. Thank you for your consideration! If this post does not belong here, please tell me and I will delete it asap.

I remember seeing some Smash 3 Mario costumes posted for the updated one. I think that that is one of the alts for Mario, but I may be getting it confused with the orange alt for Luigi.

Yo, could you make a smash 3C deadpool for the deadpool psa that's on the vault? If you don't take requests, that's fine.

read the first post.

Anyways I just finished a major texture for a certain thing I've been working on for a while now. I actually have a few projects lined up but can't be released JUST yet. Sort of exciting, but know a lot of stuff will be out soon enough.

(You should try texturing it yourself, we need more people doing it anyways!)

I remember seeing some Smash 3 Mario costumes posted for the updated one. I think that that is one of the alts for Mario, but I may be getting it confused with the orange alt for Luigi.
Ooooh, so that's what that one was supposed to be. Then yeah an orange Mario was already done for Smash 3.

Here is a small thing I worked on for a bit in between textures: http://imgur.com/a/ytqOn

I'll be doing the poses the characters do at the title screen clip. Already I have most of the characters poses done, I'm just going to wait on S3 finishing for producing them all, perhaps fine tune my lighting as well. Those ones are already in my HD pack. For the most part they are the same unless it's not possible or ugly otherwise (for example Marth has no bones in his sword hand, so I kept his sword out, the original has it sheathed).
Idea. Pokemon Trainer is absent in PM, and the blue and yellow Pikmin really don't need their own poses/slots, methinks. Mewtwo and Roy are shoddily coupled with Lucario and Marth, respectively. Do with this what you will.

EDIT:
The rear poses are outnumbered by their sideways counterparts, so never mind.

So, now that I'm looking through the custom skins that Brawl Minus has, I've compiled a pretty good list of some skins they included that might be good ideas to go with for the recolors category, if you guys don't mind me throwing it out here.

Edit: Didn't want to double post, but I kinda want to throw this out there: The Melee Wolf skin can sometimes cause Brawl Minus to crash, most likely as a result of issues related to his hybrid air dodge (cancel his side-B into his air dodge). I don't know what effect it has on other mods, if any. It's also crashed the game at other times, like during his f-air or while double jumping.
