This thread has suggested that the boss Ridley and the playable Ridley will be different. Are you just ignoring that plausibility conveniently?

Unless you're suggesting Ridley isn't the boss in Pyrosphere, in which case delusions are likely running high this close to release.

Ridley's teasing as a boss was about as official as it can get, during a presentation narrated by Sakurai.

It should be fairly obvious that if we get a playable Ridley, it will be Other M ridley, I'm pretty confident he is playable anyway

And I honestly doubt that the Ridley "shown" in the April Direct wouldn't be the Ridley we would get as a playable Ridley, because there would be no reason to have Other M Ridley be a boss and Classic Ridley be playable when Sakurai could easily just give us one. One being made to fit the design that Sammy/Zammy is in.

And this is starting to get out of hand. Let's just stop this pointless agrument before the thread gets locked again.

I honestly don't think Ridley would be shown way after Samus in the All Star list, even if it is Other M Ridley. I mean, the name Ridley designates every one of his incarnations, regardless of whether or not he it's the case of a clone, while Ganondorf and Zero Suit Samus are used to designate specific incarnations of their characters.

Regardless of that, I don't know why the portraits on the Rest Area can't behave like the icons that are usually shown on the upper corner of the screen in Melee and Brawl. It makes sense, seeing as the 3DS screen is fairly small, and thus one would have to find a more viable option with this limitation (this is why characters on the CSS don't have names under them anymore, or how the damage and stock display is placed on the bottom screed).

Anyway, this is all too ambiguous to tell if it's for or against Ridley.

I'm aware that they wouldn't show Ridley in a trailer like this. That's kinda the problem though. This picture is only nonsensical if I ASSUME Ridley is playable, though.

If you assume Ridley isn't playable, this picture just serves as a tease for All-Star mode, with Samus being the only character debuting in that year, from her franchise. Her being alone makes sense if Ridley isn't playable. She's just filling in that fifth slot, while Pit and Palutena will be grouped together in the second "1985-1986" battle, along with R.O.B and whoever else. This image does not potentially spoil anything in terms of the roster either.

However, if I ASSUME Ridley IS playable, only then does this image become odd. Because Samus and Ridley should be together like Peach/Bowser, and Zelda/Link. And by that virtue, they should be showing be a more modern timeframe as the example in this trailer, because more long confirmed characters exist that can be grouped into five, without causing any consistency problems for an unconfirmed character.

Palutena confirmed as a statue then, Ridley was never confirmed to be a boss, Teased? Yes, Confirmed? No, showing a small Ridley makes me doubt that was a boss

Well, I heard a theory that Other M Ridley would be both a boss and a playable character, and Dark Pit operates in the same way.

It'd explain the Dark Pit tease, fit in with bosses being teased at the end of newcomer trailers (Yellow Devil, Metal Face) and satisfy the minority that would actually want boss battles in Pyrosphere.

Honestly, I highly doubt that Ridley will be shown off as a boss within these next two weeks. We're getting extremely close to the 3DS release date; I think that's the version of the game that will be focused on for these next few weeks, just as it was this week. And since Ridley apparently will only be on the Wii U version, that means we likely won't know what his fate is until either the next character reveal, or the release date itself.

How on earth does ridley survive without being shown till release (besides the direct but still technically not shown.)

Smells closer too playable than boss (besides only 1 metroid stage in the 3ds version and its a past stage)

(Theres room for 1 more stage though but i really doubt its a metroid stage.)

And just think, after all this time, after all the possibilities of a deconfirmation(though it still could happen), and after an entire year and more of ambiguity, Ridley still is going Strong. Wow, we really came a long way Space Pirates.

I will still stand by my previous statement that the all star pic has no effect on Ridley. Because at the point of display, Ridley was still UNCONFIRMED

This really means nothing, though. Why would they show a piece that would supposedly have to have Ridley but cut him out just so they can put that shot in? They just wouldn't have that shot in at all.

Someone also said that since it's Other M Ridley, he'd count as a 2010 character, but Twilight Princess Link (also a separate entity) didn't appear in 1985.

There are reasons to say that the pic means little for Ridley, such as Pit, Palutena, and R.O.B. not being there, but the above are not good ones.

Unless ridley trailer is during the last 2 weeks of pre-release we are going to get ridley before hes revealed

Eiter we get him pre release or October 3rd.
I believe that we got Shulk right before the japanese release to hype them. We get Ridley to hype us, that is why we know of this trailet so early.
The japanese game will then be patched to unclude Ridley without spoiling the suprise.

They wouldn't edit a screen over just putting in a screen that doesn't have spoilers. Surely there are plenty of those parts in All-Star mode that don't have any spoilers, why not just put one of them in this one's place?

I honestly think the All-Star pic deconfirms him as a normal playable character, and that R.O.B., Pit, and Palutena being absent from 85-86 does not mean anything. Each All-Star stage is probably a group of 3-5 characters with a year range, for example:
Stage 1 (80-81): G&W/Pac/Mario/Dk
Stage 2 (83-85): Luigi/Mac/Dog/ROB
Stage 3 (85-86): Peach/Bowser/Link/Zelda/Samus
Stage 4 (86-87): Pit, Palutena, Mega Man
Ect...

However, I do think there is still the possibly of Ridley being a controllable boss, which may explain why he hasn't been revealed yet. It would allow Ridley fans to "play" as him without having to do any weird resizing.

Shulk's trailer didn't really felt like the "ultimate" trailer this game would be getting. Being so close to release, one would expect something that gathers all (or most) of the characters in the game (at least the one revealed at that point). And I think that's pretty likely to happen.

But whose trailer could that be? It certainly has to be someone popular, iconic, big, purple, one that's been requested for endless ages, one that could truly represent the reunion of all of these all stars into one game.

Why the heck do people think that you'd fight peach bowser link zelda AND samus at the same time?

Have you never played a Smash game?

You don't fight them at the same time, they are just the opponents "stock".

When Peach inevitably is killed, that will trigger the release of Bowser. In some cases they've done it where they keep a max of two characters as your opponents so maybe it will start with Peach and Bowser, and when one perishes, the next is brought in to keep your opponent count at two.

playable bosses, wow, so fun.
I love pressing buttons/tapping icons to do telegraphed attacks that totaaly take away from the mind game aspect. Playing as Madter Hand was the mist fun part of melee, especially when my friends could murder my face off so easily.

I can't stand the idea of playable bosses.
You make a big requested character not playable
but then playable only on one stage.

Like I said, while that may as well be the case, the other scenario I proposed is also plausible. There's really no way of knowing.

Also, I thought the idea of playable bosses was debunked some time ago.
