The New Melee Hacks Audio/Music Thread
This is the new Music Thread. Here you can make requests, share your songs, and publish any cool SSM hacks. I was inspired to make this thread from Tichinde925's original Audio Melee Hacks thread, but that thread grew less and less active and Tichinde stopped updating it. Now, I'm going to try running this thread, with a little more organization and updation:

Finally, all HPS's in the indexing posts will fit in SleepyK's 14:02 HPS file and NOT the default melee files. Tichinde's old thread has a bunch of original-melee files in it; I've listed them here but have not specified which stage they go under, as they'll replace all 14:02 files.

No problem! Though I'll admit it wasn't all altruistic - every time I looked at the old thread's first post I was reminded of a time where dreamland could only hold 56 seconds of song. And that is just unacceptable.

Hm...Good question. I think that once one gets posted, I'll just throw them in at the end of the SSM Hacks thread. (Or maybe under the heads of each character - which do you think would be better?)

None of these songs are hex-looped. However, they are 'lazy-method' looped, meaning that the song will loop for 14 minutes.

I've formatted almost everything here like I asked and put them in the first post myself, but in the future, do you mind doing the links and such like I asked in the first post? I ask this because it makes it much easier to copy/paste a bunch of links for me, and also makes the process much more clear than me trying to figure out which version to which game a strangely named file is so I can put it in the correct place (and is why I didn't format your ff_link.hps theme for you).

I've got a few songs I wouldn't mind sharing through here. Are songs with extended looping points allowed (i.e. 7 minutes till loop)? I figure it probably doesn't matter, what with GCREV and all, but, JIC.

Sure thing! The only real requirement is that it can replace what I think is the default audio file, the 14:02 sleepyK iso file. Since pretty much anything can replace it, go for it.

And hm... I should put a link of GCRev in the first post.

Sadly, no. I don't know how to extend the length of ssm files so that long audio can fit in them. SSM files contain the sound effects for a bunch of things, but each dsp within an ssm (ssm is a container for dsps) lasts about a second long, on average. So the sound effects that you want in those areas simply just can't exist there.
I hear SleepyK is doing some work on it, though. So there's hope for change in the future.

I can't fix the links, because the site or Tai took them down from the interwebs. But I can replace the files with ones I made myself, which I'll do as soon as they finish uploading.

"Ready..." is actually it's own sound file (seperate from go) and lasts about 4 seconds. I'd guess that whoever did that hack put most of the 321 Quit Life phrase inside the ready file, then split the difference with the GO file. What you're asking with keeping the default ready phrase, then adding a bunch to GO just won't work.

But here's how you do it. You extract the .ssm's from the melee iso (nr_name.ssm contains both the GO sound and the Finish! sound; while fox.ssm contains fox's taunt). Those ssm's need to be converted to .dsp's which then need to be converted to .wav. The easiest way to do this is to stick bilbaggin's superssmex in the directory with dspadcpm and the two wii sdk .dll files, ssmex, and all .ssm files you need to convert. Run the superssmex and it'll spit out some folders with wavs and dsps inside them. Open the wav folder and locate your sounds (you'll probably need to play through them to find the ones you're looking for). Then you can edit the wav in any way you want. When you're done with that, open up a command prompt and enter

and your wav will become a dsp. Then, to quote GodFed:

5. Manual hexing...
Open up your hex editor of choice. Open the original SSM, the original DSP, and the new DSP. Go back to the ssmex.exe program, and drag the SSM file over the icon. This will launch the program, but it won't extract the DSPs (I don't know why, but I don't mind). Instead it will just give the info on each file. Don't close this.
Hex time.
-Compare the original DSP to your new DSP. They should be very similar in length. Best case scenario, they're exactly the same. Absloute worst, your new one is a lot longer.
-In the new DSP, copy the data from 0x60 on. This might be in the middle of a bunch of 00's, but it's correct. Open the cmd.exe window and look for the original filename. The offset data will be right by it. So, go to the SSM, and paste the copied data at the specified offset. Double check to make sure you didn't make a mistake.
-At the end of the data, if there's still a little room before it goes to the next DSP, just insert 00's or FF's until it ends. If you think you went over the limit, you're in a little trouble. Ctrl-Z undo, mate. You need to find the length of the data from the cmd window, which has the beginning and end offsets for each DSP. Copy that amount only, and paste that. **I only think that the longer ones will still work. I haven't tested, though**
-Back in the new DSP, copy the funky looking data from 0x1C to 0x3C. This is the coefficient data responsible for correctly decoding the DSP audio. What we have to do is paste it in the correct spot in the beginning of the SSM. Either count from the beginning of the SSM (every 0x48 bytes is the end of a block of coefficient data for mono files....stereo files are a bit longer since each channel needs coefficient decoders. Just count out two mono coefficient blocks for stereo) to find it, or match the original DSP data from 0x1C to 0x3C in the SSM to find it. When you find where it starts (remember the coefficient data is always 0x20, or 32, bytes long), paste your new DSP coefficient data over it. Good to go.
Save the SSM in a safe place.

Repeat for each other SSM.

I downloaded The Passing of the Blue Crown, and a few others...and their file size is huge! This might be a bad question, but how do I use them? I want to use Blue Crown for my Final Destination, but GCTool won't let me on account of the file being too big.

Also, it seems that many of these files say the same thing, so I'm sure I'm just missing something and don't know how to properly replace the existing sound files with these ones.

The ones that are already re-named (ie. izumi.hps) all seem to work fine for me.

Any help would be appreciated

Edit: Also, I've read all the audio tutorials I could find already so if I missed it, I'm sorry for wasting anyone's time
