The Mew2King Video Thread (05-06, 11-15)

IF ANYONE ACTUALLY WATCHES ALL OF THESE, IT WOULD BE NIFTY IF YOU COULD MAKE A LIST OF CHARS USED AND NOTE ANY ICONIC COMBOS. I'm gonna try do do it myself for all the big ones (vs gods/etc). In listing iconic vids to watch, I am biased as a Sheik main, though I can also nab the marth ones. I just don't know about the fox ones.
In addition, I have found several tournaments he attended that are not listed on ssbwiki or reported on smashboards. IF YOU NOTICE A VIDEO I DON'T HAVE LISTED OR HAVE INDICATED THAT I CAN'T FIND, LET ME KNOW.
And finally, IF YOU NOTICE ANY BROKEN LINKS OR TYPOS, LET ME KNOW. I'll try to keep track of my notations to keep them consistent.


So when I decided to get good at smash, I decided I'd watch every single M2K video I could just coz. Hopefully this'll make it easier for others to repeat this feat (I watched most but not all of the pools/low bracket matches, so not to say I watched all these, but I devoted too many hours to watching m2k vids).

Once it's done, I'm considering deleting or moving all the listings of missing vids to a spoiler at the end. I kinda like the continuity, but you can get that info from ssbwiki, and they just add to something that's already too long. Also, I'd considered spoiler'ing each year, but I settled for the pretty colors (better appreciate em coz they made formatting a pain).

I've denoted tourneys/matches I haven't gotten to or can't find vids for with an asterisk.
Must-see vids (i.e. god matches) are denoted with a bunch of exclamation points.
Eventually I'll try to update w/ char used. Gods faced in the tourney are listed, as well as highly ranked players.
I try to list pools first. Assume that an unmarked match is in winners. The 'L' in parenthesis does not mean he lost that match, it just means it's in loser's bracket.
The spoilers for individual matches are actual spoilers with info about highlights from the game.
The parenthesized players after each tourney's name just lists players that I'm aware of as being good. For the top 50 or so it's obvious, but below that I just sorta browsed the smashboards power rankings to get a gist of who should be highlighted.

Intro
If you didn't watch the documentary, M2K has been a top player for a long time - almost 10 years now. According to legend, he started out as one of those dudes who could trounce cpu's, but wasn't familiar with a human's option selection (he has since come up with a training plan for when you can't play w/ ppl: use lvl 1-3, and just make sure to cover all options, even the ones you know the cpu won't cover). According to the documentary, after the age of Ken/Isai/Azen, he became one of the next era's rulers along with KDJ and PC Chris. After that, he was the only tippy-top player to continue into the age of gods, and of all players has spent the longest time at/near the top. He has the best Sheik in the world (for a long time he used white sheik, but has started using red; IMO he tries his best to camouflage), has the best Marth in the world (the infamous Black Marth) until he taught PPMD his secrets (when he plays PP, he has to be careful about counterpicking FD), and has one of the best Foxes in the world (he usually only uses Fox against Puff/Peach, but used to use Fox when a Fox main counterpicked PS).

He is known for several quirks:
He is the most successful triple-plus main in the world (though Mango was once known for his ability to play any character at high levels, M2K has demonstrated his superiority in that regard). He is one of the only top players who bases so much of his strategy on counterpicks. Even though he doesn't main Peach at all, he will use her against even the highest level of IC players simply b/c she hard counters them (he even ended up Peach ditto'ing Nintendude at a S@X, where he actually lost the tourney).
He has a shoebox full of controllers for each of his characters, though they get lost/stolen over time.
He is one of the most patient players in the world. He is well known for his planking, and considers edge-intangibility to be quite broken. If you fight him, "don't go near the ledge" is your best bet. Just as Mango has been able to master being cornered so well that he is not disadvantaged by it, M2K has mastered edgeplay to the point where he is not disadvantaged by being on the ledge.
M2K is also known to be especially strong on FD. In addition to the option coverage it grants Marth, many commentators propose that the stage compliments his analytical mindset.
He is known as 'The Robot' due to his mastery of the use and coverage of ideal options and frame traps. He also spent a lot of time studying the game, and discovered many basic game mechanics by himself. He compiled his data in his info dump.
He is also known for his rage quits. He can get quite emotional about the game, and is really affected negatively when a crowd is cheering against him. He has found a strategy for overcoming this in that he will pump himself up, popping off even if he wins through an opp's SD.

I don't want to delve too deeply into his personal life, but he has Asperger's, which can make it difficult for him to pick up on social norms. Sometimes he will do something funny like interrupt a streaming computer to check facebook, and sometimes he will get himself into drama, like when he thought Darkrain was trying to cheat when their Bo3 turned B05 was invalidated. He has also suffered from depression. I haven't met him, but from what I've heard he has a peculiarly strong heart.

He is by far the master of smash. No other player has been able to dominate in as many smash games as he has:
He is decent at 64.
He is a god at melee (though he is ridiculously split between characters and games).
For a long time, he was the tyrant of brawl (he realized early on how broken MK was, and made a lot of EZ money).
He dominates in PM.
When Smash4 came out, he made it his goal to be the best Smash4 player.
He is also by far the most active smasher (OMG this thread is gonna be a lot of work).

'The Return of the King' refers to an era that began after The Big House 3, where he broke out of a slouch he'd been in for a while and started consistently beating gods again. He went on an insane 1st place spree (TBH 3, Pound V.5, RoM 6, KoC 3, KTAR 8, 2nd @ Apex 2014, Shuffle V, 2nd @ Rom 7, KTAR 9...). He has since been doing well, but hasn't been practicing melee as much due to Smash4 (plus PM and a lil Brawl). But he also said that he will be focusing more on streaming and teaching than competing in the future.

Armada and PPMD seem to have a higher consistency b/c they attend fewer of these god-heavy tourneys, which keeps their bad days out of this list (though neither of them over really have bad days).
M2K attends A LOT of tourneys, and he definitely has bad days some times, so he seems quite inconsistent on this list.
Mango has a couple of tourneys on here where he sandbagged as Scorp.
Hbox is actually pretty consistent considering he's only missed one god-heavy tourney.

Over time I'd like to expand this to include things like Leffen, tourneys w/ 3 gods, game/set counts and stuff like that.[/table]
