Big D - against wolf you cant use waddles in the neutral game. I cant stress that enough. Wolf has the movement to capitalize on the end lag.

If you get a grab almost always go for up throw. unless you wanna drop zone them with down throw > Fair. SilentWolf has a solid laser game with wolf too so that make him hard to grab and its silent wolf so shield grabs are almost a no go.

keep at a distance and get the grabs you can. poke with ftilt to get what damage you can.

Also something i noticed about almost every dedede player. When you know you aint coming back go for the damn sit spike on up B. You guys dont do that. Give them the old Tim and Eric treatment . "This is what I do, I sit on you"

Would any of you mind critiquing my video? I'm P4 SmokedSalmon. I know I missed some l-cancels on the fast fall full hop back airs. I also wanted to try and use more Swallow and the Charge Hammer, but couldn't find situations for using them. Maybe against Fox's Side B recovery?

And yeah, I have a real problem against Pit. I'm trying to make it so I just space and try to wall the opponent with back airs of varying height and timing, but I didn't really think of that at the time. So yeah :p

Also, if you can, highlight some good points so I know what to replicate (if there are any)

I have some footage of a tourney I went to in SC. http://www.twitch.tv/clockworkstudios/b/519230986
Doubles action is at 6:14:45, 7:23:01 and 7:41:26. Our team ended up getting 2nd (Edit: Grand Finals were uploaded https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dS6m4UX8sXE )
I have some singles action at 9:24:16, ended up getting 5th

BY THE WAY I feel like learning some useless stuff, does D3 have a good moonwalk? How do you do it? I have a friend that does Link's moonwalk as a taunt and I think it's the sickest thing ever lol

Here's a fun match that I just did at like 4 in the morning last night to test out my computer's recording capabilities on Netplay. The matchup is kind of campy though. Feel free to critique, but yeah, 4 in the morning xD

I don't want to sound mean, but there is a huge skill gap not only between him and Axe, but there is a huge skill gap that is apparent between him and the next best DDD. (whether that is me, Fly, or Victra)

okay axe is scary good
but also I was under the impression that fly was the best ddd, is that not the case?
I always thought it was fly then heyseuss, you, and g-reg.

Its a toss up between me and fly. We both have results to prove that we can handle the top of our scene. Me with top 8 at shuffle V which was the second largest PM tournament and him with APEX 4th.

and if that video is any indication of heyseuss' skill, then I'm clearly on another level.

It's not a toss up. Fly is clearly the best DDD, lol.

Yeah, ok. it's not like I haven't been getting top 5 at our 60+ man tournaments for the past 4 months. or placed well at an extremely large tournament either. the same as fly.

and besides....HBox told me I'm better than him :D

Ripple, you are a hilariously shameless self-promoter. Shuffle was not nearly as stacked as Apex.

hey, to be fair. Fly is a developer. he should have performed well at APEX considering that was a month after release

also, I self-promote because I know I'm good compared to most others and otherwise, only like 2 people would have heard of me

LOL what does being a developer have to do with being good? Vanguard and GuruKid were developers as well but didn't rank nearly as well as Fly.

I think you're good. And I even think your self-promotion is good. I wouldn't have known about you if you hadn't done that. But I think you're kind of downplaying Fly's results for your own purposes, which is kind slimy.

First thing first, him and Fly have a little rivalry that is kind of? personal. Along with that so many people on stream have mentioned Fly as the best DDD but then proceed to list off other mediocre DDD without even mentioning Ripple. Ripple has proved that he is an amazing DDD player and that he deserves as much credit as Fly yet he gets none. He's self promoting because he deserves acknowledgement and is trying to get at least some.

You said it yourself that you wouldn't have known about Ripple if it wasn't for his self-promoting.

Yeah for sure. I even try to throw out Ripple's name too when people ask about good Dedede's and I def think he deserves acknowledgement way more over other players besides Fly. No doubt about that. But if he wants to prove he's better than Fly, he needs to SHOW it rather than tell us that. That's the only way to change minds.

On another note, I finally pulled out Dedede (over my usual Link) at Smashing Grounds this week. I flubbed a ton of stuff this match - particularly accidental dash attacks and missed regrabs - but I had a lot of fun and will probably keep playing him. Here's the vid.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ghb3wAAcaM

I stupidly go back to link round 2 and get stomped so dont watch that LOL.

I have already "proved" I am at least on equal footing with FLy having got top 5 at the past 4 monthly tournaments in chicago which is widely accepted as a PM powerhouse. all tournaments have been at least 60 entrants with 2 ago having 90

I'm also the only one to regularly put out videos of high level play.

your self-skill theorycrafting is terrible and your math is bad </sarcasm>

To be fair, is it important if you are second best DDD if you aren't winning things? Its the same reason why I'm not dying to self promote myself as a Ness player in the top players thread. If you aren't winning, you don't necessarily deserve to matter.

Its kind of like what Mew2king said in the character thread (can't believe i'm quoting him). Many people aren't good at this game, so does it matter if he's 2nd best roy in the game if there aren't any other roys? Being 6th or 7th best falcon in PM is arguably way more difficult than being 2nd best DDD, so really there are a lot of great players we could be talking about that we aren't.

Get 2nd at Low Tier City like Fly did to start getting mentioned. Afterall, that is when he first entered the conversation as "best ddd".

When does Fly win anything notable? He might have won a couple locals but he often gets second to DEHF in his region.

Winning isn't the end all but getting consistent top 8 at big events is. which is what we both do.

Raw placement numbers in tournament (3rd/top8/etc.) are not an acceptable way to rank players. If you want to be considered better than someone else you must do two things: Beat who they lose to, and not lose to the players they beat. Fly has an impressive list of wins against big names, and a small list of players who have taken sets off of him in tournament. If you claim you are better than X person, it should be reflected in your collective notable wins and losses compared to theirs.

Fly and Ripple are from completely different states, and because of that I don't think they've played any person in common as of PM 3.0/3.02 That being said Ripple, you probably need to go and place very well at one more big tournament outside of Chicago preferably streamed by VGBC or CT, then you'd get recognized. If you could, go to a Xanadu along with other top players from Chicago. I'd love to see Chicago vs MD/VA again (legit this time). I feel like this similar thing happened go Neon because everyone watched the Xanadu stream, saw Pink Fresh doing well and hastily proclaimed that he was the best Lucas.

Anyone else going to SKTAR? If they record pools, I may be able to post some matches of me getting dumped on :p

But if others are going, we should hopefully have some new footage to discuss.

*returns after long absence and reads all this*

I haven't entered a PM event in a long time, so I'm not very relevant to the current PM metagame in any case. I'm going to try to get back into it soon-ish, probably after MLG. I don't think I really want to say much about this discussion since I don't trust myself to be impartial about my own standings. I will say that I recommend being happy with one's own progress and accomplishments over how one stacks up against others. Regardless of whether Ripple is better than me or not, he's done some very laudable stuff that he should be proud of; my existence and what scattered people on the internet think have no bearing on that.

Finally took out Silent Wolf :D

WSF vs Bladewise

LF vs Chevy

GF vs Silent Wolf (Went Mewtwo in WF)
http://www.twitch.tv/62bitgaming/b/536454230?t=5h53m

Also would just like to say, I've been consistently getting top 1/2 at 60+ events. If we get the chance I'll MM any of you Dedede's for top spot. You guys haven't experienced the grind of Brawl MKs, Olimars, Falcos, and Pikachus. You guys have had it too easy.

A couple things. I've watched the first three games of your match against Silent Wolf and I want to ask, why so many waddle dees? Why do you throw so many on-stage, and try to snipe him off-stage and how do you use them to create space? I'm not questioning anything, I just want to try and learn how to use the waddle toss as well as you do. Thanks!

I mostly use a lot of waddle dees vs Wolf because they intercept lasers.

They have other uses too, waddle dash is a really good approach and you can usually combo off a hit confirm or grab them if they hit a shield. They give you movement you don't normally have. Throwing them out is generally annoying for the other player and a lot of times they make hastier decisions because of it. Also if they see you throwing out projectiles, they're going to want to approach and that's almost always good for you. They are also good to punish things you normally can't. If you hit a spacey off stage with waddle dees, they become really easy prey to gimps. You can throw them out without having to commit to going off stage so even if you place them in the wrong spot, you still have stage control.

But yeah mostly to avoid lasers.

Wow @ | Big D | | Big D | our D3 playstyles are like...completely different. I would love to see how some friendlies would pan out between us if it ever happens (Netplay?). I've been getting top 8 at all the tournaments I've entered but they're not anything serious, just locals and whatnot. I do take pride in tying with DruggedFox for 7th at a 50 entrant tourney though so...I'm getting there :}

so ive been playing a lot of DDD recently and im really enjoying him. thought i'd start coming to the boards now. when i use him i throw tons of waddle dees. i do it for tech chases sometimes and mostly when im too far for anything else to mean anything. and i mean a lot of waddle dees. is this a good idea? i also dont waddle dash too much. when i do waddle dash its almost always to throw a waddle dee at them and combo into grab. i also use it for recovery sometimes but not too much. what do you guys think of that?

Actually, I hadn't really thought of using Waddles for tech chases. I would think they would only come in handy for that in rare circumstances: a Waddle would have to be facing/walking towards you with your opponent in the middle so that the Waddle would cover the tech away option off a dthrow, no?

Other uses:
-Recovery a la the Waddle Dash towards stage (Every DDD should get the hang of both the execution as well as the exact distance it sends you; do it too close to the stage during a low recovery could get you caught under the stage!)
-During recovery a la toss 'em towards the stage/opponent to clear a path
-blocking projectiles, often in conjunction with the above point (e.g. Lucario Aura Sphere or super Aura Sphere, Samus Charge Shot, ZSS Stun Gun); their deaths are for a greater cause!
-Predict opponent approach paths and throw a Waddle at a the appropriate angle to both block them and maybe set up a combo
-On-stage grounded Wave/Waddle Dash into the Waddle Dee away from your opponent to create space and get a hit off (maybe), and then Waddle Dash back towards them to get another Waddle hit. Especially good when you pull a Waddle Doo (the ones with an eye for a face, for you Kirby newbies) to get extra hits because those do more damage and have higher upward knockback.
-During a Waddle Dash also angle the Waddle to hit your opponent. (e.g. opponent on platform in front and above you -> angle up; you're recovering from above -> as you boost forward from the dash as always, throw it downward (if you don't plan on getting a double boost recovery))
-In case you mess up a B-reversal inhale when jumping away from your opponent, at least you will throw a Waddle!

also, I talked to metroid the other day about your set. he says your off stage game is slightly better than mine but my on stage game is much better than yours
