This will certainly change many Little Mac players games! I started out a Mac main and settled in on Char but damn I think I may start giving Mac more PT cause of this. Its this as big a deal as I think it is? Do you think it should be patched?

Knowing what the patches patched though... it'll almost definitely be patched.
Peach's ledge cancelled turnips was HUGE, and that got removed. Peach is bound to the limits that were originally intended.

Heck, Mac's aerial Jolt Haymaker got nerfed. Mac is going to remain on the ground.

was about to post a question regarding that video, but since i don't need to now, I suppose I'll ask...

what's a good way of using this trick, besides platforms?

Covering your landings, remaining threatening when recovering/getting off the ledge, punishing a reckless approach.

Any situation in which you could land somewhere, the KO Punch becomes threatening before you land. It also becomes a bit more flexible with B-Reversing and fastfalling aerials.

It's useful, but not really world-changing. Pretty nice anti-platform camping tech, but it still requires Mac to be in the air to begin with. Start-up is significant since it relies on the use of an aerial ahead of time, but as a result, this has good basic mix-up potential with a regular fastfall landing -> KO Punch.
