Tap jumping or X and Y jumping?

With tap jump on, I'd put too much force on the stick and jump too high. With it off, I'd get perfect height by lightly tapping the button . It seemed to work out well.
Doesn't tap jump completely disable jumping with the analog stick? Are you using the buttons to jump? You can keep tap jump on if you are using buttons to jump... I don't see how tap jump off would help sh-fairs if you use the buttons to jump...

What tends to have me baffled is why would the Y and X buttons be set to jump by default. 2D platformers like Kirby Triple Deluxe and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D have jumping set to the A button and/or B button.

I can understand if the reasoning is because of the GameCube Controller's button format, but for a button format that mimics that of the SNES Controller, that would be a different story.
