Licensing issues and trademark/copyright laws, if you want a short answer.

Like, those types of laws basically state that you can only alter a character so much to be within copyright or something, so Sonic's always blue and Pac-Man's always yellow and smiling. That's likely simplifying it a lot, but yeah. Didn't think it'd extend to Cloud though...

My prediction is that only cloud is going to be released with the update. But they are going to give us a trailer of the first DLC character coming in early 2016. Which will be Shovel Knight due to the whole amiibo business.

I'm sorta mad people just skipped over you. Must be frustrating. It's because at the end of Adv. Child Cloud is cured of the stigma and no longer needs to wear the sleeve to conceal that he was sick. I forget, but think the ribbon is something most of the FF7 have to remember each other (correct me if I'm wrong) and Tifa hands him his at the end. So in a way, Cloud has three costumes or two with one having a slight altering to it

I would like that, but it's best to temper your expectations. We don't have much reason to believe SK is going to be in Smash, or any indie characters for that matter.
