Yea that's right. You guys saw my kicka** title and clicked on it.

The Pokemon series contains some of the most fun you will ever have, and one of the most defining moments in each game starts with the first Pokemon you choose. Defining enough, in fact, that it was enough to warrant a replay just so I could see what it would be like to have that Treecko, or get my hands on Squirtle for the first time.

Now it is time to decide... WHO WERE THE BEST STARTERS?

The thread was made for general discussion on starters, so feel free to answer any of the following questions, or make some for yourself. Remember, base this off of looks, originality, how fun they were to use, etc. Don't base this purely off of stats. HAVE FUN!

The best of the starters (imo). No matter which one you chose, you felt like you had a real bad***, and Charizard owns almost any Pokemon in that category. Not much explanation needed.

Typhlosion was awesome, but when I compare Feraligatr and Meganium to Blastoise and Venasaur, I feel like they are too inferior. Meganium is probably the least bad*** out of all the starters in Pokemon history, and I just really didn't like Feraligatr for some reason.

Blaziken! Swampert! Sceptile! I love all three of these guys. Mixing fighting with fire just made Blaziken too cool for words, and it was a lot of fun to play with the first play through. Mudkip is well... Mudkip, and Swampert is one of the best starters stat wise, and Sceptile was the first speedy grass pokemon we had, so it was a welcome addition. I rate these three right behind the 1st gen in terms of awesomeness.

This would have been a great set if it weren't for Infernape. Infernape is nothing but a cheap Blaziken ripoff, and I hate it for that sole reason alone. However, Torterra is just as awesome as Venusaur was (if not more), and the mix of steel and water made Piplup a very unique choice. I really didn't have fun playing with Piplup for some reason though. 3rd worst gen of the 4. Darn you Infernape.

Bulba/Ivy/Venusaur was my most favorite starter.... in fact, Ivysaur is my favorite pokemon, period.

I love Infernape. It's a fighting fire monkey, c'mon. Blaziken is a..... chicken.

Charizard, Typhlosion, and Swampert are really the only other final evolutions I liked.

Chikorita was cute, but Meganium is balls.
I liked Grovyle, but I hated when it evolved..... I don't like Sceptile.
I like Wartortle but not Blastoise.
Also, imo, Charmeleon > Charizard. He was just so much more bada** in the anime.... Charizard was a lazy piece.

Which gen. had the best starters?

Hm, this is a toughie. Personally, though, I'm going to have to go with second gen. Everyone else seems to hate them, but they all had this creative vibe to them, to me. First gen and third probably tie for second.

Which gen. had the worst?

Fourth. While it doesn't fall behind AS far as in other categories, none of the starters are really that awesome to me. I love Piplup, but Turtwig's a little meh and Chimchar...as you said, it's a Blaziken ripoff. Only it's no longer a f***ing chicken, so it fails even more.

Who is the best starter, overall?

This is really tough. I guess Charmander. It was the first Pokemon I actually started with, although it later got erased because I couldn't beat Misty so I went to Bulbasaur. Charizard is still widely loved to this day, and due to his appearance on the Red cartridge has made a huge mark in Pokemon history. Gotta give an honorable mention to Bulbasaur, but I think Charmander pulls out ahead in the end.

Yeah, Chimchar. Too uncreative.

Who is the best water starter?

To me, it's gotta be Totodile. On more than one occasion I started a new file on my Gold version just to play with Totodile on. I never erased my file, I just wanted to play with it.

Who is the worst water starter?

This is pretty tough, since I like Squirtle, Piplup, and Mudkip all equally. Squirtle is awesome and a rather significant Pokemon, Piplup is the first non-grass Pokemon I started with in my main game of that generation. Mudkip evolves into one of my favorite Pokemon to use in third and fourth gen. Bah, I just can't vote on this one. They're all too good.

Bulbasaur. I like Chikorita (even though no one else does), Treecko was a pretty awesome starter in my opinion, and Turtwig is interesting, but in the end it's gotta be my first starter.

Turtwig. It's interesting enough, but ultimately it's fairly similar to Bulbasaur with the plant-on-back concept. This was a hard pick too, albeit not as hard as water.

my last game, I went through Pearl starting with a lv 10 Ralts that I bred and EV trained and traded over to myself. It was wayyyyy more fun.

The starters were really original, and plus, the stats were awkward for each starter, which was nice. 2nd generation was just really creative.

The starters seemed a little bland. I wasn't very fond of the animals they based the starters off of.

He turns into a giant, attack-heavy crocodile! What's not to like about that?

It's a monkey.... and a rip-off of Blaziken, and since 4th gen at the beginning got my hopes up, it served as a killjoy. It's still awesome, though.

Ohhh, I saw that one, but I somehow missed it. My bad.

Even though you removed it, I'll answer it nevertheless.

At one point or another, I have played with every starter...but I don't think I've ever done a run of second gen with Cyndaquil, actually. Not on purpose, I guess it just never happened. I do like Cyndaquil, I suppose I ought to get Silver already so I can have a file for Cyndaquil (my recently fixed Crystal has Totodile and my Gold has Chikorita).

I've never done specific runs for the fourth gen starters, but I played through Diamond with all three starters. Oh, and oddly enough, my Ruby team has the two starters I didn't actually start with, but not the other. I accidentally deleted my original in-game Ruby team and lost my Sceptile.

I never started a game with any of the plant starters other than Torterra.

I don't like playing plant pokemon for some reason.

...I Like plant pokemon, and I use there moves...My Empoleon has grass knot. I just don't use them on my team.

Although I did like Chimchar somewhat Grotle seemed like a copy of Bulbasaur/Squirtle combined and I just didnt like Piplup.

4th. Every other gen had pretty much worthless starters, with the exception of Swampert in gen 3. In terms of gen it was the only one with a useful fire type starter(Game freak hates fire types) a useful Grass starter(Game freak is also not fond of the grass type) and a ****ing penguin that was ******** good(Game Freak loves it some water types)

2nd gen starters are pretty terrible, both completely uninspired and mostly useless. Though at least Typhlosion was amazing for a while(Then they took Thunderpunch from him *sigh*)

Empoleon. It's both a freaking penguin(+points in my book) and probably the best water type pokemon in the game.

Bliziken. It's like, why use him when Infernape does EVERYTHING BETTER?

Chimchar hands down. Nothing even comes close, STAB on the two best attacking types in the game, 108 Base speed and a ******** move pool. ****'s too good.

Turtwig. Torterra is awesome, and those who don't understand why are the same fools who call gen 1 "creative"

All the ones that aren't turtwig. Maybe Treeko, he does become an OK pokemon, but lets be honest, this is grass we're talking about, OK will never be good enough.

4th Gen. Not only did they take the 3 cutest animals and turn them into pokemon, but they're overall better than any other generation. I've always liked the classic guys from Gen 1 but unfirtunately they suck. Meganium brings down gen 2 and gen 3 is aight I guess. But 4th gen is where its at.

2nd gen only because of Meganium. Typhlosion's a badass though

Torterra I guess. I like the grass starters but they're just not extremely great.

Lets be honest, grass starters were never THE best pokemon ever. Venusaur got the crappy poison typing that evert grass type got in gen1, Meganium is, well Meganium, Sceptile's outclassed by Skymin, and Torterra dies to Ice moves instantly. But in the end, I have to say Meganium, no shiny of her either.

Just wondering, is anyone even remotely interested in the vote count?
