Hello, ladies and gents!

I am a semi-(semi-)professional 64 online player who is really loving PM atm and I'd love if we grew our playerbase even further to facilitate a stronger, more tight-knit community revolved around competitive and for-fun PM!

After getting into Project Melee, I realised there was a distinct lack of meeting spaces, especially for Aussies and Kiwis. After little deliberation I decided to create a Super Smash Bros Project Melee skype group to meet up for games.

Add me on tom.puddi and I can add you into group easy as pie :)

We have a few players that have played in regional tournaments Australia-wide and they're looking for new challenges, as are we all.

Hope to see you there!

Thank.

How active is the group in terms of how often everyone plays?

I play about 4-7 different people per day depending on how much stuff I have on, with however many matches per person. So it's pretty active, but we want more Aussies and Kiwis as I can't find anywhere else where oceanic players meet.

Hughie do you know of a group (other than steam) for oceanic PM players?

We just have a Skype group that me and Nikes are in, and others from the boards. Don't think we have any New Zealanders in though.

Yeah, I am in this skype group and it is pretty active. I remember I didn't play smash at all for a while because it was just me and two other guys in netplay but there are quite a few active people in this group.

EDIT: Hughie maybe merging conversations is a good idea? or exchanging admins names so they can work something out.

Are you in contact with any of the QLD people that regularly host tournaments?
This is their thread http://smashboards.com/threads/quee...e-to-play-warehouse-3-10th-may.336792/page-28
They don't seem to be particularly big on P:M, I'm not really sure, but if you're interested in getting into P:M a bit more competitively you might want to head some locals or get in touch at least.

Anyway
There is already a netplay irc (irc is much more accessible and a favorable medium to skype, if you ask me anyway.)
https://qchat.rizon.net/?channels=dolphin-ssbm&uio=Nz10cnVlJjk9MzU3fe - This is the link for the Melee group, and there's a PM division. There are commands to search for other Australian players from within here.
If you are a complete irc noob and can't figure out that for yourself, you can just go to Mibbit (google search it, first link) and Launch App - irc.rizon.net in the server field, #dolphin-ProjectM or #dolphin-ssbm in the channel field.

If everyone joined this, I think you'd find it preferable. I was thinking about the idea of starting up an irc like this for aussies only though (maybe reboot the ol' #ausmash) and really get some socialising going on ::^))

Hmm, IRCs have their pros and cons, but from my experience Skype groups have been much more convenient. I asked around for some Aussie players on that IRC and I got a guy who said he sees 1 Aussie asking for a game every few days, and when doing the !mm command there was 0 aussies in any oceanic type region I could think of. I think most PM players meet up in the Steam or Skype group at the moment, international groups really don't seem to appeal to aussies as they're always flooded with, well, internationals.

The only thing I don't like about the skype group is that one of us has to manually add a new player to the group, even if it really doesn't take much effort, just requires us to react in an appropriate time frame. The skype group for 64 aussie players worked really well and I'm basically emulating that for PM players at the moment.

We have a few players that go to locals(regionals) when they can, and I'll be joining them once I get my raphnet converter. Our players link the tournaments in the chat and one of our admins such as myself put the details in the /get guidelines or the topic, so all players, new and old, can see information about up-coming tourneys and whatnot just by looking at the group.

If you have any more ideas please let me know, but I'm not particularly interested in setting up an IRC as I believe Skype is much more user-friendly among other things.

Thanks for the info though!

P:M is growing in Queensland. At Play Warehouse (monthly tournament) tomorrow we are going to be running Project M alongside Melee, definitely get come along if you can Kronos.

Also, while I think most people use it to play Melee, we also have a net play Stream group. Just search Dolphin Netplay Australia and you should find us.

Yeah I'm in that group, posted this post there too. I would definitely come along if it were in Brissy and I had my raphnet converter haha... Or if you could use keyboards like in 64 lol, but I don't expect that anytime in the future.

Seems like Smash in general has been growing exponentially in the last year or so, it's really great to see. Just the other day I saw one of the developers for Dota 2 posted about how smash is really doing well as an e-sport which I thought was awesome.

We still need more players, though!

I'm also part of this group and I can confidently say that matchmaking is of no issue due to the amount of players. Playing several people every day now.

So I just joined this group, pretty overrated tbh, tried asking for games but no one plays actively. There's only really a few games going on each day (with the same few people). Also, there are already existing PM skype groups/IRC channels/fb groups with 10 times more members, why don't you just merge with them?

After checking out all these "other groups" this is the only one that i find is active, and at any time of day I've been able to get a game pretty easily. Plus the people who are regulars in the group are a friendly bunch with plenty of tips and advice for new players as well. Each to their own but I hardily think this group is overrated at all.

Um, have you checked out the QLD IRC channel? And the NSW PM group? they have about ~100ppl, heaps more active, with an already established community. I just think it's silly having a separate group when you can merge both to appeal to a wider audience. Also it's pretty ironic that the creator of this skype group is a renowned troll within the 64 community haha.

I like how you're using my Skype name to get back at me, whichever 64 player you are. Very creative, +1 to you.

There are no other more active PM groups for the oceanic region that any of us know of (40+).

We've recently had to ban a surge of trolls that have joined since I exposed just a little of the hypocrisy prevalent in the 64 group, which I'm glad I am not a part of anymore. (I do not speak of the large majority, all of which are great people who are fun to play with.)

Thankyou.

From what I can see, there is no hypocrisy at all. It has been known since 2010 that you were a troll and the majority of the 64 disliked you from the start. Even after getting kicked you were begging to get reinvited. Your ban was warranted, e.g, abusing other members, constant trolling even after been given warnings. Please don't make it seem like you're in the right here because its very well known within the 64 scene that almost everyone dislikes you for what you've done.

I have plenty of conversations that prove otherwise, Emmi. You were not part of the aussie 64 community while I was playing back then, you cannot speak from experience. The majority of 64 actually don't care whether I am in the group or not, as I have read on my Jch account.

The abuse I dished out in response to a certain 13 year old (jokes aside) was clearly retaliatory and soft, but the details are not important. I was not given a single warning, you actually told me to give him my all.

What's important is keeping this conversation between you and me, I doubt many want to hear about this internal bickering as if it's something important. I have so much more I could say but that would be dropping your new low.

Again, if you would like to contact me, please do so through Facebook or Skype as you have been doing so with capitalised abuse, not here where you're derailing the community's thread. We want to play PM without being bothered by sheep in wolves' clothing.

Thank you.
