[Solved] 3.5 ISO on Wii

I'm trying to get a Project M 3.5 ISO to load on my Wii. I've tried using the ISO builder linked at the top of this (the one that is explicitly described as for consoles), and I've tried the one this Reddit thread (both with and without sharing saves). The result is the same with both: After the first two splash screens, right when it says it's loading, the screen goes black and stays that way until I reset my Wii.

I had a 3.02 ISO working, and that one still works. I'm using Wii Backup Manager to transfer the ISOs onto my hard drive, and USB Loader GX to play them. Can anyone offer me any help?

EDIT: I just noticed that when I'm trying to run the ISOs on my Wii, I'm getting the 3.02 splash screen. When I run the ISOs on Dolphin, I'm getting the correct 3.5 splash screen. This is obviously wrong, and maybe a clue to my problem?

do you have both iso's on the usb loader? if thats the case you may need to remove one or rename the game ID. otherwise it loads the first one it reads in the list (which alphabetically is 3.02)

No, I moved the 3.02 ISO to a separate folder at the root that I just called "PM Backup". I did consider the (unusual) possibility that it was somehow still reading the old ISO anyways, and tried completely deleting every PM ISO and then re-transferring the 3.5 ISO, but the same thing happened.

My best guess is that something (probably USB Loader) is caching some of the startup files. Is this a thing that it does? If so, is there a way to clear that cache?

Drag the older PM file OUT of the WBFS folder. the folder name means nothing on a usb loader as its the readme file inside them that changes. its better to just cut it somewhere else on the drive all together. make sure the 3.5 iso is the only brawl iso you have in the wbfs folders

I did, I put the old PM ISOs in a folder at the root, "G:\PM Backup\". I did leave a vanilla Brawl ISO in there, it was working alongside a 3.02 ISO before, but I can try removing that when I get home tonight.

Ok, I tried removing the Brawl ISO, but nothing changed.

I did find something new though: I tried changing the hooktype to AXNextFrame (from None), which I had read about. This caused the PM 3.5 splash screen to come up, and the menus loaded and looked fine. However, I didn't have every character unlocked (this ISO was using a separate save slot), I didn't have any of the new costume, the stage lselect screen looked like Brawl (but the stage images were PM), and finally when I tried to start a match the system froze.

Setting the hooktype back to None gave me the same result as before: PM 3.02 splash screen followed by a black screen.

This really baffles me.

Why are you using an iso when you can just load hackless using a usb loader?

Download hackless, put on SD card, go to USB Loader GX and change ocarina settings so it will load PM.

(I'm pretty sure this still works with 3.5, but if it doesn't I'm sorry, I'm still on 3.0)

I think I found my problem. I remembered that I also had 3.02 hackless files on my SD card from back when my disk drive still worked. I deleted those and now everything appears to work. I guess those files didn't cause a problem as long as they were the same version as the ISO I was using, but they broke when I used a newer ISO.

Well, hopefully this can help somewhat else in the future. Thanks for the suggestions zigheart.
