PLEASE put that first sentence in a spoiler. Even if it's vague I think it's best to leave it completely out.
That aside though, this is something that has been on the back of my mind for a very long time. DQ3's protagonist being named Erdrick is a spoiler (but it's so widely spread at this point that no one really considers it as such, sadly. Playing the original DQ trilogy blind is an amazing experience), and he's almost never canonically referred to directly as such.
I think the reason they're associated so often is that even before this, the DQ fanbase would commonly refer to him as such, and Google Images shows them as the first result for "dragon quest erdrick".
That being said I still think that DQ3's protagonist is a very sensible and likely choice to represent the series as a whole - he would likely just not be named Erdrick in game, maybe something else like Dragon Warrior.

Either Three or Hero IMO.

So when during E3 do you guys think they'll reveal the DLC character(s)? Hoping the 11th because I'll be away on my trip to San Diego starting the 12th.

It'll be interesting to see what the fanbase reaction will be if it turns out that the Dragon Quest pick isn't "Erdrick" as we were expecting, but rather the Luminary from Dragon Quest XI. I could totally see it happening, but who knows?

I was thinking of something though, and I think it makes sense. You know how the original opening movie for Smash 64 made it seem like the Smash characters were action figures? What if we based the inclusion of certain characters on an action figure pack, with particular accessories that would represent their abilities or weapons they would use?

Like, Joker would be a bigger action pack, with an Arsene figure to come with him. He'd come with the mask (removable!), his dagger, Eiha projectile piece, and his hookshot.

Ike would be a tad tougher, but would come with Ragnell, his blue flames, but come with jumping and swinging action!

Luigi could come with green fireballs, and the Poltergust 5000. Mario with a red fireball, cape, and Cappy.

I could go on, but it's such a cool concept. Makes me kinda wish it was a thing...but then I'd really end up broke.
I’d be very disappointed because Luminary has an actually kinda ugly design. He just looks bad lol.

Does Toad really even HAVE the potential to be a full on character without being Captain Toad?

Hey, do you guys wanna see the roster for my Xbox Smash-Like?
I'd think so - he's been playable in games since Super Mario Bros. 2, and the Smash developers have made a character work using much less material.

As for the Xbox roster, I'd like to see it.

It is, but if I recall they did announce a Smash 4 Direct rather late to air prior to the main event for Roy/Ryu. I guess it's possible this year, but if they do that again you'd hear about it very soon.

I thought E3 begins on the 11th though. Am I missing something?
E3 starts June 11th but people hold their presentations before the show floors actually open up for people to try demos.

Nintendo's E3 events start June 8th and the first press conference is Microsoft's on the 9th.

Sunday June 9th in a Smash Direct.
My guess is June 11th, when the currently known and announced Nintendo E3 Direct is. I just don't see Super Smash Bros. getting a whole Direct just for DLC..it seems unlikely, even if they do a big Update like they did when Joker released. My guess is that they'll just do a reveal or two during the June 11th Direct and maybe some sort of Update Announcement. There's no way they'd have enough content to take up an entire Direct.

Smash had it's own 15 minute direct back in 2015 for Smash 4's DLC. They did it because they don't want Smash to overshadow their main direct.
