Forgive me if i'm wrong, but wasn't there speculation that it could even use the final build of the game given that it didn't say it was a trial version in the event unlike pokemon let's go's? People were using that to theorize we would get the final direct with all reveals before the tournament if that was true.
I hope it's an updated demo at least too, but if they aren't using the final version it's unlikely that they would update the demo for this

Yes, but there's still a chance that won't happen anyway. It depends on if Nintendo/Sakurai/the development team want to show it off, as an update. It's fine if they don't, but I would love it.

Apologies. I'm usually just prepared to be defensive when Watsuki's crime is brought up. Kenshin is my single favorite anime, and the first manga collection I ever collected. It got me through some struggling times in my life and I've endured people telling me that my fandom is condoning pedophilia on more than one occasion. Plus, "elements were off" could LITERALLY be everything we've talked about already. Missing Incineroar, different background, etc. It doesn't mean the banner is fake, it could just mean it's different.

This could be exactly like ESRB where there was a glaring spelling error and Ness's design was completely unlike any previous version of the character before SSB4.

From my understanding, the insiders haven't seen the actual real mural, they've just seen content that would make the Grinch leak not so much demonstrably fake as much as demonstrably inaccurate. So given that one usually but doesn't inherently correspond to the other, and since they can't disprove the mural so much as they can probably prove something is absent from the mural (though publicly they've chosen not to), you see the strange language going on.

This whole 'Insider' thing is really turning me off gaming journalism.

I still have the YouTubers that I like, but some of the big dawgs are acting like babies.

I've seen this pattern before with games journalists, just that those times it was the news sites and not the YouTubers.

Pattern:

1. Some piece of information they don't like gets out. (I won't list previous examples because we don't need that mess here, we got enough to debate about)
2. If it's covered at all, it's done once off and very dismissively, followed by complete radio silence
3. When people notice and start asking, those asking are accused of being some brand of toxic, as if uncomfortable attitudes make it ok to completely ignore something related to it.

At least there's no part 4 in this case due to there being no personality at the centre of this.

Now I'm hoping that JP tournament has more characters available in the game build, because the competitive character diversity over there with their top players is actually insane. At least, based on the mains of some of those players in Smash 4.

Also, Lloyd Irving being DLC would make me cream my pants completely... it'd been so long since Sm4sh-days with pushing on his support.

God, I'd definitely be floored to actually see them give him a full go since become a Mii Costume awhile back, especially after I threw the towel on him when Pac-Man got confirmed around 2014 and ToS Chronicles wasn't even released on Wii U.

And I'm sure IsaacBros and LloydBros will be even further banded together if he and Isaac get to be in the same game...

It's a super depressing one tbh. It's the most "real" leak we've had so far for ultimate, but it's so highly contested for the content in it. If it's real, literally everyone wins for thebmost part. If fake, they idea that that they were almost real to a degree (REAL IN OUR HEARTS) would sting pretty badly for quite a few people.

I hope it (+incineroar) miraculously make base. Idk how, but I'm hoping


Plus we'd get a nice solid 80 for the base roster, counting Pokemon Trainer as 1.

I know the "November 8th" date is what most people are pinning it as, but god this is going to feel like an eternity.

But don't we usually hear about Directs the day beforehand?

We're reaching the point where people are done talking and everything is complete confusion. We've had people trying to figure out what's happening like Vaanrose take a well-deserved break, completely contradictory information from insiders, and nobody has a clue what's going on.

I've never seen a leak take a Whoville-brand baseball bat to the entire framework of Smash speculation like this before.

I feel that Mach Rider would be the one to get revealed in another character's trailer. If they had their own, they'd definitely be the most obscure character to get a full dedicated trailer. Retro reps can get trailers - Duck Hunt showed that. But then Duck Hunt is much more iconic than Mach Rider is.

If Mach Rider did get their own trailer, I'd imagine it being bike based: s/he could be racing against Wario, Cloud and Link.

Yeah, that seems accurate.

And I'm getting tired of one side being "it's real, you ought to know because it's like the ERSB stuff", the other being "pfft, that's a fake, even a kindergartner could draw that" and the last one being forced into either of the former two. It's grueling, mind-numbing and repetitive. I just wish that Direct goalpost will stop being moved already.

If the Direct is November 1st, we'll hear about it today, no question.



But I'd place very good money that it's going to be November 8th like most of the people predicting it to be will be.



Game-specific Directs are always given roughly a 3 days notice unlike general Directs, so if we hear nothing today, then November 1st is 90% out of the cards.

I'm fairly certain nothing will happen today, it would make too much sense for them to do something like that, but we'll see what happens.

Up to now, leaked Direct dates have been correct. It's happened with the August and (the delayed) September ones, it can happen again.

Tournaments having money prizes consisting of players' entry fees is illegal in Japan as it's considered gambling there, and so tournaments there rarely have money on the line as TOs are rarely able to supply a considerable monetary prize themselves. As a result there isn't much incentive there to win over all else and so you get a lot more players willing to stick with lower tier characters they like instead of hopping onto a top tier. Perhaps there's other cultural differences at play too, but that's probably the main reason you get a lot more high level mid/low tier heroes in Japan and overall less top/high tier usage compared to elsewhere.

Also Japan does Best-of-1 sets in pools, leading to more upsets and really screwy brackets that can allow those mid/low tier heroes to appear more often deep in bracket.

Smash Directs are typically two days in advance. Standalone trailers about a day in advance. Nintendo typically announces their stuff around 9AM or 9PM Eastern, though I may be off an hour on that.

I unfortunately ran into a couple while on Twitter while checking everyone's reactions to Incineroar Being in smash...
Now I wish I never saw it, And I really hope that Incineroar does make it in, just to make up for the pain that was given to my eyes...

I feel like the cgi trailers we've been given so far could all be repurposed in a story/boss mode. Since they all show rivalries and opposites.

I think the best rivalry they could give Mach Rider is with Captain Falcon. Him cruising along in the blue falcon, suddenly being overtaken, and then leaping out with a falcon punch only to be shot down.

But who knows. A bike race would be cool too.

You can have him/her race against Captain Falcon in a trailer as well.

Or have him/her try to join Mario Kart. You know how funny a Mario Kart try out trailer would be? Just Link, Falcon, Wario, Fox, Isabelle, Villager, anyone who has racing experience or land vehicle experience. (btw what happened to Star Fox Racing? Lol.)

It could just be a big turn out for Mario Kart and Mach Rider crashes the competition. That'd literally be his/her splash screen.

With the previous "leak" it was either "They wouldn't reveal their hand that easily" or "it's official material, it can't be denied".

This way we had something to do other than bicker.

IF this leak is indeed real, then I just DON'T see Incineroar being base roster.


It makes zero sense why a company would have this stuff at this stage in the game and not have the final design for display.



I love the big lug, but if this leak is legit, he's not base roster, and that's just bizarre.


The fact that their marketing is going to say "79 characters!(Pokemon Trainer counted as 1, Miis as 3)" and them not just throwing in one more Echo to make it an even 80 feels really off.

Nice - that could be the dual reveal trailer (Shadow, if an echo, would unlikely get his own trailer, and Mach Rider, being fairly obscure, might not get their own either - so they could be paired together).
