The game doesn't need to be saved, diddly and sheik are both good characters and they have a lot of MU's in they're favor. But saying they need to be balanced to save the game is kind of a joke, it hasn't even been a year, it hasn't even been half a year. If they both destroyed every character in the game 7-3 I would say they need buffs but that's clearly not the case.
The bottom line is the MU's are going to be evolving for a long time, balancing out characters is fine and sometimes needed, but this isn't one of those cases yet. Even if two years later the top two characters continue to be diddly and sheik that doesn't mean balancing is needed, it just means that people will still be complaining about them as opposed to a new set of top tiers.
I sincerely hope only a small portion of the community thinks this way.
