DK, Yoshi, Samus, and Link were all bad in every single Smash to date, some less than others, Samus being okay in Melee. They need to shine one day.

YOU think the Brawl roster isn't diverse, that doesn't mean other people think that same way. Brawl had more diversity then you give it credit for. You got a humanoid fox, bird, and wolf. All different animals that look different which makes them in definition diverse. We have a robot, we have a giant turtle, we have a princess, we have a space ****** with walking plants, we have a hedgehog, we have a army man, we have a overweight biker gangster, we have a giant gorillia, we have a monkey that has peanut guns, we have elves, we have a big bad human looking badguy, we have a woman in a suite of armor, we have that same woman in zer suite, we have a think sleek swordsman who is all about prescision, we have a big burly swordsman who is all about brute strength, we have a yellow mouse, we have a pink puff ball, we have a blue thing covered in blue auroa that knows how to kick you ***, we have a fire breathing lizard that can fly, we have a blue turtle, we have a fourlegged plant, do I need to go on? But wait according to your logic we should get rid of Luigi as we already have a plumber.

Ok I'm not gonna argue this anymore cause this is about smash 4 not brawl and my point keeps getting lost in arguments about my problems with brawl while clearly these days a lot of people here are fans of brawl waiting for the next game. and that's, fine. I'm among a group of people who were really disappointed with brawl and are hoping that smash wii u/3ds is better and fixes the problems I had with brawl. we are different. thats ok. To clarify, smash as a game is diverse HOWEVER I think brawls tight roster missed opportunities to be much more diverse and satisfying and thats what I was trying to get at. but thats my opinion.

Now that said, if say Alph, Nook, Dixie, "Classic" Link, and Dark Pit are a large chunk of our newcomers and we have a tight 40-45 character roster this time around, my assumption is people won't be very pleased. Now they play about as differently from their... I wont say the term "clones" thats gotten a stigma to it, "cousin" character, as say wolf toon link and lucas do from theirs. would that really make for a good roster? Also notice how you already KNOW who the "cousin" character is of my proposed characters without me mentioning who they would be. thats what I mean about a non-diverse character instead of a diverse one. I also guarantee that if a character like Alph gets in, next time around there will be people defending him and olimar as being different and diverse etc.. because of playing differently. Also I'm a fan of pikmin and im excited for pikmin 3 and I might even love a character like Alph I just don't think on what I assume to be a tight roster it's worth spots to keep making those kind of choices.

In regards to luigi, of course he should stay on merit of who he is alone regardless of if his moves are "cloney" or not (tho i think theres still even room for improvement there: add his vacuum) but lucas and wolf and toon link I don't think have that same merit, but hey that's just my opinion, i also see these characters getting "cut" in several prediction rosters so... that says something about how much they bring to a good roster.

It's fine that you want diversity, but these characters got in because they deserved to be in smash. Krystal could easily be just as a semi-clone as wolf, and the other characters you chose will most likely be in Smash 4, and frankly, in my opinion, the brawl vets you cut deserved to get in before them. You're right when saying just playing differently doesn't make the character a good choice. It's the character themselves and what they and their franchise mean to Nintendo. That's why R.O.B got in before Little Mac, and the other "almost-clone characters" you cut.

Sorry maybe my explanation of that roster wasn't clear, it was just one I made for fun and uploaded cause it sort-of showed what I was getting at.

Thats your opinion they deserved to be in first and sakurai apparently agreed with you. I dont but thats me. you say "the other characters you chose will most likely be in Smash 4" but what I'm getting at is that if these "almost clones" continue to take priority we may not be seeing them in Smash 4. Many of these Hopeful newcomers this time around I hear a lot of "should have already made it in at this point" talk which is where I'm coming from. And like I'm getting at if some combination of Alph, Dixie, Nook, Dark Pit, "classic" link etc... get in over who people are assuming will make it (many of which were assumed during the brawl days and DIDN'T) then the roster wont be so great and thats what I'm fearing and ALL i've been trying to say. I hope we get the more diverse most wanted newcomers instead of characters that are similar to characters we already have. But IMO brawl didn't and we might be seeing a repeat, I hope not. Also if we have a 50+ roster, awesome and maybe theres room for more of these type of choices but at 40-45 which I'm realistically bracing for, I don't see continued "almost clones" as good choices... though unfortunately likely ones.


Also just a side note; there isn't anything wrong with debate and argument here. I see a lot of people that seem to act like when we get really heated in a debate about something it's a bad thing but isn't That basically the point of a prediction thread? arguing how we feel about the roster, what we think might happen, and how we feel about other peoples choices and the likeliness in order to try and predict the roster. it's a good thing in my opinion.

What would make Alph and Tom Nook different from Olimar and Villager, respectively? Characters are supposed to be bringing something new to the table this time.

Olimar appears to not be using the Rock and Winged Pikmin.
The White and Purple Pikmin appear to not be included in Pikmin 3 (Anymore, anyways).
Giving Alph the original three colors and the Rock / Winged Pikmin would certainly make him different from Olimar. Of course you can also make Alph utilize the Pikmin differently too.
I haven't seen any other character have flying and shield breaking assistants, have you?

The Villager's key fighting items appear to mostly be based off of the tools. The only two we have yet to see in action are the Fishing Rod and Bug Net (But it has been shown in the Trailer, just not in battle).
Something the Villagers seems to be lacking is the use of Furniture and Bells. Tom Nook is the master of furniture (At least he was) and bells. Also being an important character you normally see daily to buy furniture from, he's very mascot worthy of the franchise. Being a consistant character present in each variation of any town in all games.
I haven't seen any characters utilize furniture or debt into their fighting style, have you?

That would be way too OP, I think it's a D-Spec, normally these kinds of counter-attacks are D-Specs or S-Spec, but I'm pretty sure Collect is a D-Spec.

Collect makes more sense as the Neutral Special. After all the bases of Animal Crossing is collecting things and nothing else really makes sense to be the Neutral Special.

Also for the Bowling Ball, we've only seen it used near ledges. I think it could be a new type of attack used by ledges, because I don't see why it would be a Bowling Ball of all things. It makes no sense.
