Most: Metroid hands down. There's a few characters I'd like to see somewhere down the line for the series. But Ridley most of all, since he's a friggen Space dragon.

Least: Mother? I can't see someone being added from there. Yoshi doesn't need one either. Not even Kamek.

EDIT:

Most: Donkey Kong then, King K Rool, and Dixie are both deserving characters.

Least: Zelda, I honestly don't feel like anyone else is needed. Though by some chance Vaati becomes more relevant again, I'll reconsider him.

Versatility vs. Focus.

Characters tend to slide towards one or the other, and both have their advantages and disadvantages. If you're versatile, your best strength is being as flexible as possible but at the cost of having no distinguishing characteristics, while conversely having a focus means you highly specialize in one area but your limited to that area. People would prefer the former, while others would prefer the latter.

I personally like focus charecters I'm not that great with versatile charecters.

Punch-Out just feels like one of those franchises that Sakurai might not make playable. It's kind of just a gut feeling thing I've had about Little Mac regardless that I've never had a roster without him. I feel in my opinion that other characters are more beneficial and that Punch-Out is fine as Assist Trophy. You probably think the same about Starfy or Advance Wars, but again it's my opinion.

What they need to do is put in more Sonic Adventure score pieces. Casinopolis, Red Hot Skull, Lost World, Bad Taste Aquarium, that'd sure class the place up.

To be fair, that could really be said with any miscellaneous franchise.

Must you limit us to conversations that have been done to death. I mean you're acting like we know jack squat about mostly anything that's going to be in this game. It's the whole point of speculation. :p

I don't think the Balloon Fighter has any chance as a playable character at this point.

If anything, I'd think at this point he could be an Assist Trophy or a character in a stage.
