Yesterday, Rooster Teeth announced that they are closing their doors. Rooster Teeth had operated online for over twenty one years. They began creating digital content in 2003 with Red vs Blue. They have since produced several other popular series like RWBY, Death Battle, and Achievement Hunter.
Many were caught by surprise with this announcement. Casey Lee Williams, who provided vocals to many of the songs on RWBY, was not alerted ahead of time. The Death Battle team was surprised by this announcement as well. Many people expressed their thanks to their communities for supporting them over the years. Ben Singer and Chad James, the two leads on Death Battle, each thanked the community while trying to ease the fears of fans. Kerry Shawcross, one of the showrunners for RWBY, also expressed his thanks to the fanbase.
Warner Bros. expressed interest in selling off some of Rooster Teeth’s intellectual properties, such as RWBY, Gen.Lock, and Red vs Blue. And speaking of Red vs Blue, the final season will still be airing this year. Ben Singer and Chad James have expressed interest in keeping Death Battle going in spite of Rooster Teeth’s closure. As of this writing, nothing is set in stone for many of Rooster Teeth’s shows.
We sympathize with the Rooster Teeth team in this rough time, and wish the employees the best in their future endeavors.
