Many of you have likely heard of ReveLAtions. If you have not, let me fill you in. ReveLAtions is a fighting game national hosted in the heart of Socal. Last years event had somewhere around 740 entrants and 1,200 spectators with a huge level of talent at the event. Justin Wong, Daigo, Mago, and others competed for the top spots at the event.

This year is going to be bigger and better. The tournament is going to be a 3 day event with a HUGE venue (over 40,000 sq feet). This tournament is expected to topple last years numbers and hype.

I have been selected as the Smash TO for the event. We won't be a side event, we're going to be one of the main tournaments. I can't say too much - yet, but expect something amazing. Expect lots of guaranteed setups, amazing sponsors, a VIP section, and a guaranteed pot.

Brawl Ruleset

General:

3 stock
8 min. time limit
Team Attack ON
Pause OFF (if possible)
Items set to OFF and NONE

Starter Stages:

Battlefield
Final Destination
Smashville
Pokémon Stadium (Melee)
Yoshi's Island (Brawl)

Other allowed stages:

Castle Siege
Lylat Cruise

Set procedure:

0. In case of disputes, before, during, or after character selection:
0.1. controller ports are decided via coin flip (in doubles, the winner of the decision only selects the first to connect of the four ports), or other random methods if agreed by both sides.
0.2. in doubles, any player can make any opposing team with a Lucario, Sonic, or Pokémon Trainer change team color (also known as the Colorblind Rule).
0.3. if disputing the first characters to be played in a set, one side must blind pick by writing down or privately disclosing the name of their character(s), and reveal character choice after the opponent selects character(s).
1. Character selection.
2. The Starter Stage to be played on is agreed upon, selected through RANDOM, or each player strikes one until one remains.
3. The winner of the previous match may ban a stage for the remainder of the set.
4. The loser of the previous match declares the stage in which the next match will take place.
5. The winner of the previous match selects character.
6. The loser of the previous match selects character.

Rules and clauses:

Double Meta Knight is banned in doubles.
Pause Rules: A player that pauses the game while all characters are under player control must self-destruct a stock, or let the game finish in case of an inevitable win/loss. A referee may opt for no penalty in case of a pause not affecting the match (for example, during KOs in singles matches). Otherwise, pausing is allowed if agreed by both players.
DSR (Dave's Stupid Rule): Unless agreed otherwise by opposing sides, no player/team may select a stage they have won on during the current set.
Ledge Clause (LGL, ledge grab limit): If a player exceeds 35 ledge grabs (13 in one stock rematches) they will automatically lose the match. This is ONLY in the event of a timeout. If both players exceed the limit the winner will be decided by the tie breaking rules.
Tiebreaking: If the time runs out, the winner is decided in descending order by Ledge Clause (whoever exceeds it loses; in doubles it counts as broken by the team if either of its members breaks it), then stocks (the sum of the team in doubles), then percentage (the sum of the team in doubles). If both players/teams lose their last stock at the same time, or a match was completely tied upon time out, Sudden Death's result is taken into consideration; or a 1 stock match with 3 minute time limit is played (to the TO's discretion). Hanging on the ledge more than once during Sudden Death counts as a forfeit.
Stalling is banned: It's forbidden to stall the match with freezing characters, unreachable positioning, or infinite locks. A KO move must be dealt around 300% tops following a lock.
Understage travel clause: Understage travels can't be repeated until stepping on the main stage (platforms don't count). In the event that a player going under the stage more than once before touching the main stage, they must forfeit one stock.
Meta Knight's Infinite Dimensional Cape glitch is banned in all variations.
If a game is interrupted, for example by the disc being unable to be read, or a power outage, the match must be restarted whole or under similar conditions (to the TO's or a referee's discretion).
Gentleman's Rule: Any rule(s) may be waived or added if agreed by both sides, unless the TO objects.

Bracket and pool specifications:

The bracket will be Double elimination.
Players in the bracket are separated by the TO's perceived skill or by the area's Power Rankings list.
Pool set victories are determined by best of two matches (they may result in ties), and only have Battlefield, Final Destination and Smashville as available stages.
In the event two or more players are tied at the conclusion of a round of pools, players will be compared with each other on various criteria in this ordered precedence:

Set Wins
Wins
Losses
Head to Head
One Game Rematch

Conduct Rules:

All players reserve the right to play without hacks.
No players may obstruct the opponent's full view of the screen, nor may they touch their opponent's controller or person to interfere with game play.
All forms of player on player misconduct are in effect and may result in the forfeit of the match, set, or from the entire event.
DQ Rule will be strictly enforced: To the TO's discretion, another match may be called if neither player of a called match is available. Otherwise, arriving too late for a match will result in a DQ. Player(s) will have 5 minutes to show up before a loss of the first match. 5 more minutes results in a loss of the set. For doubles, both players on a team need to be present in order to play.
The Tournament Organizer reserves the right to remove you from the venue at his discretion for any reason.
The Tournament Organizer and his assistants, and any persons helping run the event may not be held liable for any lost, stolen, or damaged goods during this event. Nor will the Tournament Organizer, the venue, its owners, affiliates, employees, members, sponsors, or volunteers be held liable or responsible for any injury or harm that may befall a person during the course of this event. By entering the venue during the posted date, you are displaying your agreement with this policy.

Melee Ruleset

Melee Ruleset

*Credit to Rule 6 for the ruleset*

- 4 Stocks
- 8 Minute Time Limit
- Pause is set to “Off” (Non of that quick reset bull****!)
- Items set to “Off” and “None”
- Wobbling / Blizzobbling is legal.
- Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., Ice Climbers’ Freeze Glitch or Mewtwo’s Soul Stunner., etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects.
- Modified Dave’s Stupid Rule: No player can counter pick the stage he or she last won on unless agreed upon by both players.
- The act of stalling is banned: stalling is intentionally making the game unplayable: Such as continuing infinite’s (wobbling/blizzobbling) past 300%, and reaching a position that your opponent can never reach you. Peach’s wall-bombing, or Jigglypuff’s rising pound can be only be used as recovery tactics.
- Controller mods of ANY kind (short-hop mod, L-trigger mod, etc), except for cosmetic changes (paint job, different colored plastic), are banned. If you are caught using a banned controller you will be disqualified from the tournament with no refund.
- Turbo or programmed buttons of any kind are banned. You may use third party controllers or pads that have these features, but if you are suspected of using the banned features you will not be allowed to use that controller any longer. Failure to comply can also result in disqualification.
- In the event of a match going to time, the winner will be determined by:

- Who ever has more remaining stock left.
- If stocks of both players are the same, the winner will then be determined by who ever has less percent.
- If the match ends with both players dying at the same time or if time ran out with both players at equal percent, an identical rematch of the previous match will be played out. Same characters, and same stage.

Modified Rules for Doubles

- Team Attack set to “On”
- Items set to “Off”
- Pause is set to “Off”
- Life stealing is allowed.
- In the event of a game going to time, the winner will be determined by which ever team has more remaining stock.
- In the event of a game going to time and both teams have an equal amount of combined stocks, then whichever team has a lower combined percent is declared the winner.

Set Procedure Player (Advanced Slob Picks)

- Priority is determined if it can not be agreed on. (See below for details)
- Each Player/Team selects one controller port to use for each Player.
- Each Player/Team selects one character for each Player. A double blind pick may be called by any player.
- The first game is played on a Stage selected from the 5(five) Neutral Stage List by the Stage Striking Method. The order of stage striking will be 1-2-1 (Player/Team 1 strikes one stage, followed by Player/Team 2 striking two stages, with Player/Team 1 then striking one of the two remaining stages).
- The first match is played.
- The Player/Team that won the previous match may announce one “Stage Ban” if they have not already done so in this set.
- The Player/Team that lost the previous match announces the stage for the next match from either the Neutral Stage List or the Counterpick Stage List. Any Stage named as a “Stage Ban” by the either Player/Team may not be selected. No Stage may be used by a Player/Team that has already won on that Stage in this set unless agreed upon but both parties. (Modified Dave’s Stupid Rule)
- The Player/Team that won the previous match chooses their character(s).
- The Player/Team that lost the previous match chooses their character(s).
- The next match is played.
- Repeat steps 6-11 for all proceeding matches until a winner is determined.

Determining Player Priority

- If there is a dispute in controller port selection or initiating Stage Strike use the following method:

- Teams agree to Rock-Paper-Scissors, otherwise it is determined with a coin-flip. The winning Team shall either elect to have first choice in port selection or first choice in Stage Strike. Whichever Team does not receive first choice in Port Selection will be compensated with first choice in Stage Striking.

- Note: In Doubles, port selection is ordered 1-2-2-1 fashion (with Team-1 having first choice in controller slot select, Team-2 having both second and third choice, and the final slot going to Team-1)

Conduct Rules

- Bring your own controller: Players are expected to bring their own controller and be prepared for every tournament set.
- You are responsible for your own controller and name tag and equipment. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility, so bring an extra controller if possible, keep an eye on your equipment and always check to make sure you’re using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. Both parties need to agree if a match is to be restarted because of these problems.
- Intentional forfeiting, match fixing, splitting, and any other forms of bracket manipulation are not allowed and punishable by the TO.
- No substitutions are allowed for singles or doubles.
- Coaching is allowed only between games, not during. Failure to adhere to this will lead to punishment at the TO’s discretion, which could include the removal from the venue.
- DQ Rule: Arriving too late for a match will result in a DQ. Player(s) will have 5 minutes to show up before a loss of the first match. 5 more minutes results in a loss of the set. For doubles, both players on a team need to be present in order to play.
- The tournament organizer has the right to save/record any tournament match if possible and has the right to upload said match.
- Disrupting your opponent physically or intending to disrupt their play (through something such as screaming in a player’s ear) will result in a warning. Repeated action will result in disqualification from the tournament and possibly ejection from the venue. Observers who physically disrupt players are to be dealt with as the Tournament Organiser sees fit. Disqualification is recommended if possible, and ejection from the venue is also a punishment.
- Although a rarity in melee (regarding textures and other game hacks):

- Players may request that any texture, stage, or other hacks be disabled during a tournament set. If this is unable to be done, they may switch to a different setup if available.
- Players are not allowed to use any game altering hacks, such as model hacks. If someone is caught setting up a system they brought with such hacks enabled can face punishment at the TO’s discretion.
