Layton:
Chance: 20%
Definitely one of the most likely 3rd Parties, and has close relations with Nintendo. I don't see it happening though, and characters like Pac-Man will come first (mainly because Namco). Not this time.

Want: 25%
I've never played any of the games, but they look interesting. Although I am a little iffy on him in Smash, I think he could be a unique and interesting character. Not one of my top picks though.

Falco Prediction: 75%
I think that he is definitely in (above Wolf by a landslide), but others see him as a clone that has should be cut. I don't know how it'll turn out, but I hope Falco makes the cut.

I think Wolf is more important, but I also strongly believe that all three will return.

Professor Layton
Likelihood: 3% - BAH HA HA HA! Oh, good one, guys, ha ha, oh man. That was so funny. I really needed a good laugh, ha ha.

EDIT: After seeing Layton using a huge steampunk gun or something in today's pic, I redeemed myself and rate him a little higher. Not by much, but still.

Likelihood: 10% - STEAMPUNK CANNON YEAH! But seriously now. He's in no way likely nor popular enough to earn a spot like Sonic, Snake, Mega Man did or like Simon and Pac-Man would. The fact that he's got some bonds with Nintendo might help him, but not by much. If he weren't third party, I'd rate him substantially higher (maybe 65% or something).
Want: 47% - STEAMPUNK CANNON YEAH! Anyway,I'm mostly indifferent. Sure, I did say I'd adore to see a character from a puzzle game, but I'm not as familiar with Layton as I am with Lip (due to Tetris Attack and Pokemon Puzzle League, though)

Falco
Prediction: 92% - He's not going anywhere, but some people are still looking at Melee's Falco rather than Brawl's Falco (which I think is notably the superior one).

[collapse=Minor Spoilers for an Unwound Future Action Scene]It's actually an invention of his that shoots slot machine coins. He builds it inside of a casino when he is captured there; he takes an out-of-order slot machine and turns it into a coin launcher and uses it to take down his captors. Of course, disassembling the machine and making the gun are puzzles, in true Layton fashion.

Layton usually uses a sword in combat (I know, a sword user, but at least he isn't generic looking), but he often makes use of his surroundings and builds contraptions and sets traps to help him. The "Slot Machine Gun" is probably the coolest of his contraptions, but he's also assembled catapults, hangliders, and more. [/collapse]

Layton chance - 0.5%

I really really can't see this happening. Granted non violent characters have made the roster in the past but that's only the start of his problems. He's not exactly on the same level notoriety wise as Sonic, Mega Man or even Snake. He has to contend with Pacman too, who's a bigger name.

Layton want - 1%

The games are fun but I don't feel he would be fun to play as. A stage would be great but obviously we wouldn't get a stage without a character.

Falco - 95%

I can't see Falco not making the cut.

Yeah, as soon as I saw that slot machine gun he's using in the first page's picture, I mostly changed my mind. Mostly.

It's quite embarrassing because I usually check about a character before giving my opinion. My bad~

Nah, nothing to worry about. It's still difficult to make a moveset for him, in my opinion. The gun is a minor weapon he only uses in a single cutscene, as are most of his contraptions.

He does prefer logically working things out, but when bad things happen, he'll pick up a sword or build something to fight with. He's certainly not a character one would immediately think to put in a fighting game... but if he were Nintendo owned, I'd consider him a near shoo-in.

But he's not Nintendo-owned (they publish the series outside of Japan, but that is all), so he certainly isn't a shoo-in, nor does he seem very likely at all. But... I'll get to that later.

True. There's no point in signing all kinds of deals with a company just to get a single stage and some music.

I suppose we could see something like a Castlevania stage alongside Snake and a Metal Gear stage... but I doubt that, even.

That'd be much too painful for people who believe Simon to be a better candidate.

PROFESSOR LAYTON

Likelihood: 5% He has history with Nintendo and would represent portable games, but since he's third-party, he has to compete with some other big name characters like Sonic, Snake, Pac-Man, etc.
Want: 5% I've done my research, but I don't think he'd be very exciting or interesting edition. There are plenty of more deserving characters in my opinion.

Professor Layton

Chance: 31% - I'll admit I was originally going to give him 10% but having read some of the replies here, he's clearly one of the third-parties more synonymous with Nintendo.

Want: 55% - The idea of a fighting professor doesn't exactly have me jumping on the edge of my seat. That said, however, I'm sure Sakurai could pull something really cool with him.

Falco Prediction: 89% - He's got priority among the fanbase here.

Professor Layton's Chances: 10%
I don't see many third-parties getting in. I see four of them pretty much a shoo-ins, and I see four as pretty much the upper limit for third-parties. That leaves... pretty much no room for Layton. Still, I view him as tied with Rayman for the most likely third party behind Pac-Mega-Sonic-Snake. Why? Well, the breakdown.

Layton is huge. Not Pac-Man huge, but huge nonetheless. He's one of the biggest series out on Nintendo systems as of now; he is a system-seller. He's known around the world, with many of his games selling in the 3-5 million range according to the admittedly sketchy VGChartz. He may not be as iconic as your Mega Man or your Pac Man... but he's still very recognizable for people who own Nintendo systems.

Level-5 and Nintendo are buddies. The Layton games, outside of a brief spinoff iOS title, are Nintendo exclusive and Nintendo publishes the games in all regions except for Japan. Level-5 has stated that they support Layton being used in crossover titles, and have already created one of their own: Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney. If Nintendo asks, I doubt they'll be turned down and I doubt negotiations will be as difficult as they were for Mega Man.

Layton is not a "fighting" character. BUT HE CAN FIGHT. Layton loses points because one doesn't automatically think, "Oh, he can fight" like one would think of Mega Man and Sonic. Still... he is a fencing expert, has used a mech-gun and other contraptions in the past, and is familiar with violence. He can be adapted to a fighter, but the idea may not occur to Sakurai-san.

Layton may be over. The developers are done with him for now... they originially intended for the most recent game to be the last in the series, but they say they do have ideas left over. It looks like they may take a break, but it does seem as if we will see the series sometime again later down the line.

All in all, the very selective third-party process is Layton's main enemy. He has a chance of passing it... but I don't think he will. Do I want him to...?

Professor Layton Want: 90%
Professor Layton and I have an interesting history together. I love the series and it was a major part of what convinced me to buy a 3DS. How could I miss out on the next Layton and Layton vs. Ace Attorney? I simply couldn't.

Anyway, I once thought Layton was a second party character. Why? Nintendo publishes the games here in NA. So... I expected him to be in Smash for a while, and was awaiting his inclusion. Then... it was a few years ago that I learned the news that he was third party. It was pretty devastating to see my vision of him in Smash disappear.

Layton is just so... Nintendo. He still feels like a Nintendo character to me...not as much as Mega Man does, but certainly more than Sonic, Snake, and Pac-Man do. As such, I kind of overlook the fact that he's third party when I'm considering my want of him. The only thing that does prevent him from getting a perfect 100 from me is the fact that it would be difficult to include him and make a playstyle that truly represents his character, and I'm not sure if it's entirely worth the effort.

Falco Prediction: 92.34%
Even when people cut Star Fox characters... they rarely cut Falco.

Akihiro Hino has shown interest in continuing the Layton series after all as he said that he isn't ready yet to end it with Azran Legacy. Only time will tell. If Layton doesn't make it into this game, he may still have a chance for Smash 5.

As for the fighting bit. I have been thinking of making a moveset done in a similar fashion as Sakurai did with Megaman and Villager by having it based mainly on the main meat of the series, the puzzles itself. I just haven't got around to doing it yet. Hopefully I'll be able to do it sometime soon. But I'm happy with the moveset I gave him in the Layton support thread as well. ^^

And I agree, Layton like classic Megaman, despite being third party, feels very much like a Nintendo character and at home with Nintendo's other colorful cast of characters, that could be because the main series has been mostly faithful toward Nintendo's consoles to a point where many people mistook the series for a Nintendo franchise. He just fits in with the world of Nintendo very well. But I guess that's just my opinion...

Anyway, great writing there Groose. ^_^

Snake and Pac Man are hardly the embodiment of Nintendo, but Sonic? Sonic fits right in with Nintendo - maybe not in the early/mid-2000s, but now the series has gone back to its cartoonier roots? I mean hell, there's a reason Sonic sells best on Nintendo consoles.

Sonic does fit with Nintendo. I've always viewed him as closely related to Nintendo. Even so, I actually thought Layton WAS Nintendo.

Anywho... I have Layton's numbers plugged in, just gotta hit calculate and see how he does. So....

Professor Layton (Professor Layton)
12.17% chance
44.89% want

Layton scored higher in chance than Geno and Simon... but fell far shy of Pac-Man's score. Still, he is currently our most wanted third-party newcomer. Not a bad day for the good professor, eh? Puzzle solved.

Today we have a character that is considered very likely... we're just here to say exactly how likely that is. Falco Lombardi is landmastering his way into today's game, ladies and gentlemen. Please rate Falco in chance and want.

Tomorrow we will be swinging back to third parties once more. We will be rating Bomberman, a character that many classic Nintendo fans know and love. How will Bomberman fare in tomorrow's game? YoshiandToad and FreshlyBakedCookies solved the ouzzle of Layton's score and will receive five extra nominations apiece.

Toad is back! He's returned to the nominations list once more. Will he perform better in a rerate?

Now... tomorrow's day ending may be waaaay off target. I'm not sure when I'll be able to get to a computer tomorrow. I apologize in advance. But we'll worry about that later... :bee:

I don't see Falco getting cut. While there are people who say that he is wasting space on the roster, you can't deny that he has many fans who would be disappointed if he left. I can't say much about Falco since he is pretty much a shoo-in despite what some people may argue. I do predict that he will get several new attacks to his disposal if changing some character's movesets, like Pit and Bowser, when they didn't need changing at all means anything.
Want: 100%
No cuts. I prefer Wolf over Falco, but I would be upset if Falco was cut... even though that won't happen.
Bomberman Prediction: 3.6%
It pains me to give this prediction. Although I haven't nominated Bomberman, I still love the little guy. But still, I can't wait to predict his chances!
Nominations: Bowser Jr. 4x, Captain Rainbow 1x

Since we are going to rate Bomberman tomorrow, here are some tracks that I recommend, Groose:
Redial (Bomberman Hero)
Zip (Bomberman Hero)
Green Garden (Bomberman 64)
Rainbow Palace (Bomberman 64)
Angel (Bomberman 64: The Second Attack)
Normal Battle 1 (Bomberman Blast)
You don't have to take these suggestions, but I felt like helping you out for tomorrow. :)

There's unused data in Brawl which suggests that Shadow Moses Island was going to have a Beatmania song at some point. It's not completely out of the question.

Question here: Is it alright to ask for concepts? As in, could I nominate "Three FE reps x5" or "Rhythm Heaven rep x5"?
I understand why I couldn't; it'd clutter the nominations and everyone would end up voting for different things, but if we end up at a point where pretty much everyone worthwhile has been voted on, it could be a possibility.

...?

How could you even come to that assumption? Falco just recycled some of Fox's 64 traits in Melee (Blaster dealing knockback, Fire Bird not doing damage when charging), and from those moves he developed unique once of his own in Brawl (at least when in comes to A moves).

"recycled"... such a nice word I wouldn't even used in my feeling towards Falco...

Falco got his own moves in Brawl? Some yes, other no. Instead, Fox had to give up some moves to Falco, too, that's something I've never ever seen anyone else has done to the unique characters. I wish there were Smash 64/Melee Fox and Falco with new moves.

Just my feeling.
