I was curious about it, soo, I made a script to count how many times did each character appear in the "Smash 4 Power Rankings" (http://smashboards.com/threads/smash-4-power-rankings-directory-project.401710/). Results:

This is not a tier list, this is not based in exact or actual data (many regions haven't updated their power rankings for months). And even if the data was fresh, the fact that a character appears more usually in power rankings doesn't make him better or anything, maybe it is easier to play them in a decent level (xD)

hmm, there are a few interesting things here:
Bayonetta is a bit lower than I expected since most of these power rankings are pre-nerf. Maybe the tabuu of playing her and the negative reputation associated with her had a greater effect than I thought, or maybe there are quite a few regions that haven't updated since Bayo was even released.
Yoshi is pretty high considering how he is very rare in the top 500 or so players worldwide
Ryu is very low for a high/top tier, but that was somewhat to be expected.
Dark pit is almost nonexistant? Pit is two tiers above him, and this is even considering the electroshock buff. Very interesting. Maybe people prefer the tighter arrow control at high level.
Link is more common than Toon Link? How about that!
Dedede is surprisingly high considering he is widely considered one of the bottom 5 characters.
Wii Fit is also really low. Much lower than the other weird/highly technical mid tiers like Olimar, Peach, and Pac Man

Wow this kinda surprised me a bit to be so high up on the list. Captain Falcon is not a bad characters by any means, but when compared to the top tiers seeing him used more then characters like Sonic and Mewtwo. However, he is an easier characters to pick up compared to the other top characters which I guess is why he is used so much.

It's really neat to see characters generally seen as bad like and characters ranked a lot higher than what they appear as in tier lists like for example, I wonder what this says about regions in terms of strength and character usage?
