The Anvil Smash Weeklies started recently with the very first in April. "I wanted to start a smash 4 community for RVA." said @dunhamcw, the organizer of the events. "There really was not much life in the game at that time." While only thirteen people came to play it was the beginning of a series that would keep growing each and every week. First more players would come to compete, then a weekly stream, and slowly the talent improved and strong players began attending.
If the character has wielded a Triforce Tohfoo can play as them but he has a particular fondness for Sheik. BrianYDG seems to play every character under the sun but still is the best overall in RVA. When they both started coming to the event the competition got intense. SOVA Unkown began to compete and showed some of the best that Link can do and the three helped a lot with community growth. This brought in new players like DTJ Gmoney who is showing some strength with his R.O.B.
The tournaments have started to bring out talent often seen in Xanadu Weeklies and several will be coming out for the festivities this week. Boss (who has visited several times previously) will make an appearance alongside Feel Tension's Fox. After a recent fantastic performance at the Xanadu Arcadian Puppeh will be coming out as well with a fire to take the event.
This week's Anvil Smash is set to take place on November 1st with the doors opening at 11 AM. For those who are near in Virginia consider checking out the tournament. For those at home the event will be streamed on the RVAForge stream. More information on the event can be found on its official Smashboards event page.
Hopefully this inside look into this slice of the RVA scene has readers inspired to start growing scenes of their own and to tune in for some awesome Smash action! A special thanks goes out to @dunhamcw for information for this article. To have a chance at an upcoming tournament being spotlighted be sure to enter it into the Smashboards event system.
