Preparing your ISO for Music Hacks

Now that sleepyk's prehacked ISO is dead (rip megaupload), some may need to know how to enable an ISO for songs of up to 14 mins. But you also want to use this guide if you've already started hacking an ISO that wasn't pre-prepared for music hacking, if you want to hack more stages than the ones lengthened in sleepy's ISO, if you want to keep the opening movie, or if you want to keep the original victory songs. This guide will help the technologically impaired (like me) do that easily.

Materials Needed

-A melee ISO
-GC Rebuilder v1.0

Extracting your ISO

1. Open up GCRebuilder
2. Click image>open, then select your melee ISO. If your ISO is in .gcm form instead of .iso, make sure you go to the bottom right and change the file type to .gcm.
3. Right click "root" in the disc image preview and hit "export". Export this anywhere on you want. And you're done.

Making Room for the Music

1. Open the root folder you just exported.
2. Delete the file MvHowto.mth
3. Delete the file MvOmake15.mth
4. Replace the movies you just deleted with smaller video files. Movie files begin with Mv and are .mth files. For example I replaced the videos with MvEndLuigi.mth. What you have to do is copy the movie you want and paste it into the root folder twice. Rename one copy MvHowto.mth and the other MvOmake15.mth. And done.

Lengthening the Music Space

1. Open up the audio folder within the root folder.
2. Delete the .hps files of the stage songs that you want to replace with custom music. The names of the .hps files that correspond to the stages are listed below:

[collapse=Show Stages]Big Blue 1 | bigblue.hps
Big Blue Alternate | mrider.hps
Rainbow Cruise | rcruise.hps
Hyrule Temple | shrine.hps
Hyrule Temple Alternate | akaneia.hps
Icicle Mountain | icemt.hps
Icicle Mountain Alternate | balloon.hps
Jungle Japes | kongo.hps
Venom | venom.hps
Kongo Jungle | garden.hps
Great Bay | greatbay.hps
Great Bay Alternate | saria.hps
Brinstar Depths | kraid.hps
Onett | onetto.hps
Onett Alternate | onetto2.hps
Brinstar | zebes.hps
Yoshi's Story | ystory.hps
Yoshi's Island | yorster.hps
Yoshi's Island Alternate | smari3.hps
Yoshi's 64 | old_ys.hps
Fountain of Dreams | izumi.hps
Green Greens | greens.hps
Corneria | corneria.hps
Peach's Castle | castle.hps
Pokemon Stadium | pstadium.hps
Pokemon Stadium Alternate | pokesta.hps
Poke Floats | pura.hps
Mushroom Kingdom 1 | inis1_01.hps
Mushroom Kingdom 1 Alternate | inis1_02.hps
Mushroom Kingdom 2 | inis2_01.hps
Mushroom Kingdom 2 Alternate | docmari.hps
Mute City | mutecity.hps
Fourside | fourside.hps
Flatzone | flatzone.hps
Kongo Jungle 64 | old_dk.hps
Dream Land 64 | old_kb.hps
Battlefield | sp_zako.hps
Battlefield Alternate | hyaku.hps
Final Destination | sp_end.hps
Final Destination Alternate | hyaku2.hps
Menu 1 | menu01.hps
Menu 2/Menu Alternate | menu3.hps[/collapse]

3. Copy the swm_15min.hps file and paste it into the audio folder, making a copy for each of the songs you deleted. The only limitation here is, do not make the size of your ISO go above 1.35 GB. You should have enough space from deleting two videos. For reference, I was able to replace 15 songs and still had room in my ISO for more. However, if you need more space, you could always delete MvOpen.mth and replace it with a smaller movie.
4. Rename each of the copies to the names of the .hps files you deleted. So for example if you deleted sp_zako.hps, rename one of the copies sp_zako.hps. Do this until you've replaced all the files you deleted. You're done.

Finalizing your Changes

1. Open up GCRebuilder.
2. Click root>open and select the root folder you've been working in.
3. Now click root>save and save it to a destination of your choosing.
4. Now click root>rebuild and wait. And your ISO is ready for for music hacking!

Well, you're done. Now all you've got to do is create your own .hps files that are 14 mins or under and replace the songs for your extended stage music in GCtool. For doing that, I recommend GSUB's Simple Step-By-Step Music Hacking Guide for the Masses. The only thing to know about that is that the command he gives in step 4b is wrong. You need to input the command "hps_insert STAGEMUSIC.hps songnameR.wav songnameL.wav", not the command he gives. Or, if you don't want to bother with looping, use the Lazy Melee HPS Hacking Guide.

Good luck!
