Sorry if this is the wrong area to put this, but how do I play online with a friend sitting next to me on the same team as me, against random people.

I'm not sure, but you MAY be able to have that friend on the same wii as you, go into wifi connection, get connected, go onto team battle, and both select your characters...like i said you may be able to use both players on it but I'm not positive.
