This thread is using a "gamey" format (based off "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon") to manage applicable players for the list, it does not guarantee perfect representation and hence shouldn't be taken as gospel. However, we'll be currently limiting inclusion to those within four degrees.
Previous threads suffered spam and heavy arguments which I hope the structure and rules provided can help alleviate.

This project has two goals:

1. Incentivize the use of the Official Smashboards Ranking system.
2. Represent high level play and naturally provide justifications for those listed.

Refinement or additions to the system are expected as it develops, feedback is appreciated.

The gist of the idea is that we're all connected through relations to every other person within "six degrees". In the Kevin Bacon game the idea is to find the shortest path from one movie worker to another through various productions. Kevin Bacon being so prolific in the industry that you can likely find the shortest path through him (or by some implementations must be found through Kevin Bacon, the further the separation the better).

Game Rules

• The relation we're specifically looking for are tournament victories* over currently noted players, with only results from the last three months being applicable. A player's designated degree will be "plus one" over the lowest degree relation they have.
  Update: *Applicable tournaments considered should be greater than a "local" (Regional size or 'stacked attendance').
  
• The base of the list is the Top 60 players of the Smash Wii U Rankings and these players are designated as "first degree". The rankings are updated periodically, this list will either follow its update schedule or reflect changes on a monthly basis.

Character Listing Guidelines

• Character representation will generally prioritize lower degrees for enlistment. Contentious characters (e.g. Diddy & Sheik) will require distinctive results to qualify (e.g. Apex). Normally, first degree representation is automatic enlistment.
• Each character will tend to a maximum of five players listed. However, continental separation won't deny additions to that number.
• A listed player should be considered a "main"; roughly defined here as consistent user over multiple events.
• Time will not shift you off this list, a better justified applicant will (this will be fun once we get here, right?).

With major balance patches comes the possibility of a player's permanent disuse of a character. In cases this is widespread a character's notable players may be wiped, affecting results against them in the future and/or possibly their inclusion.

Yeah, I posted without fully understanding the second post. SHI-G could be a way for people to figure out Japan's placing since Brood, Abadango, Choco?, and Nietono are all there... And aMSa who only has one result listed from Apex and is 78th in ranking, so 18 below the 60. He's the only notable Greninja player that many agree on.

That's the problem, they don't care about recognition or distribution. Most regions here don't even WANT to stream tournaments. or for that matter, learn more about the game (very few people have SWF accounts (though language may be a barrier for some)) It's like most mexican players only want to play, and just that.

The base will remain derived from the top 60 ranked players (the number may change though in the future). Results used to justify people don't have to be in the system to be counted, but a connection still has to exist. As I've explicitly stated, this is to incentivize the use of the rankings system, wouldn't be wanting to drop that notion anytime soon.

Fliphopper, Denti and ALSM are in the top 60. I'm sure the web of connections can be found/justified from there.
Megafox is 66th and could probably argue inclusion based on his overall results (but the question of "which fox to downgrade" has to be asked).

There's a noticeable point gap between 6th and 7th. Are you aware of any head-to-head results to justify Brood? Seems like a good cut off point at this stage if so.

Yes they will count. But people still have to be justified by a connection to others already noted.
You can show me a bracket/result that you beat Denti, Nairo and Mew2King and if it never ends up in the ranking system that won't change you having three first degree connections to justify yourself as second degree.

Because then it wouldn't be any different to any other thread that we've outlawed before. It would sully the process that has a logic. The intent is that this will reflect high/top level players of every character, perhaps that isn't explicitly stated but it is implied. When someone looks at a person in the list they can find a trail back to names we all know and we'd be looking at keeping justifications/references to results to accompany listings.

It is in essence a game. As long as everyone plays by the rules it can remain 'sane' and hopefully fun. How about looking at who you've beaten and try to breadcrumb them back to someone listed? That's the idea.

I've also beaten MikeKirby with Lucario as a counterpick choice recently. Again, two degrees.

I can also look them up for you to confirm this but I've been placing like top 5ish in virtually every tournament I've attended(average of 25-30 entrants) in the last 3 months.

FWIW, we have bi-weekly locals in Atlanta that are streamed and posted to Challonge. While I'm not terribly invested in doing more legwork to rep our players on a vanity list, I might be willing to oblige if it doesn't take that much effort. What do you need from us?

Smash doesn't always get the lion's share of stream time now that we're adding more games to the line-up, but we're at least making an effort to always post Winners Final, Losers Final, and Grand Final at minimum.

IMO, our most consistently performing players are Fatality, Player-1, Scatt, and Neos. Not sure how they stack up nationwide or what you'd need to justify anyone's inclusion.

seems like a lot is there/justifications are solid for WiiFit.
I feel I'll need to bring in some notion of having to "main" a character to be applicable (a criteria being... multiple separate tournaments with that character in use), if you think your Lucario usage in recent times justifies that you'll be noted for it.

Player-1 was in the top 60 until recently, he's currently sitting at around 65? "60" was a magic number and if enough regions aren't fairly represented by that it could be extended; but otherwise I wouldn't be surprised if links could be found between your players at this stage.
