First, third party games are not necessarily multiplatform. Second, not every game is meant for every console, so you've either got to enjoy what you do have on the console you own or you've got to get another one--it's as simple as that.No consoles get exclusives that much. The majority of games come from third party companies. Also, not everyone owns every console, so third party games are needed. Your logic is flawed.
Yes power isn't every thing *cough*PS3*cough*. It also seems Nintendo has learned from the Gamecube. Nintendo went to territory that could ruin them. They tried to fit in and almost failed. They learned that in order to beat your competitor's your going to be unique. And it looks like they are. Another example was before Nintendo came to north America. There were at least 20+ video game consoles and then the Crash of the 80's happend so Nintendo comes in with some thing Unique and saved the Video game industry. And if your gonna face palm use the Nintendo face palm please if you can find it XD"The consensus was that power isn't everything for a console. Too many powerful consoles can't coexist. It's like having only ferocious dinosaurs. They might fight and hasten their own extinction.
Why would they have to prefer. You'll be able to play games built from the ground up for Wii AND Multiplatform games. Both.I'm not exactly sure why anybody would prefer those over a game built from the ground up for the Wii.
Because everyone can afford all three consoles. Right? If I want to play Devil May Cry 4, I'm going to do so on a PS3. If I want Oblivion, I'll launch up a 360. If I want to play Super Mario Galaxy, I bust out a Wii. I don't need them for the Wii, I've got plenty of exclusives over here already, and they're doing just fine right where they are.
Here the deal, we would enjoy "our" console much more if it had all those great multiplatform games--it's as simple as that.so you've either got to enjoy what you do have on the console you own or you've got to get another one--it's as simple as that.
You hit the nail in the head. That's what I was trying to say.The only reason third party games on the 360 and PS3 aren't suitable for the wii is because the wii is using ancient hardware. This is nintendo's fault. Since they use such old hardware, they limit the amount of awesome titles that could have been on their console. I happen to enjoy games that aren't mario or zelda and I know a great deal of other people do as well.
Exactly. Not everyone can save pennies and get another console. Money needs to be spent on a lot of other things. Most people can only buy one console.
No. We want it to be better than the PS3/360 by having games of both worlds. You're trying to make the Wii into a PS3/XBOX 360 clone. It's not that, and it really shouldn't be that. The market already has two almost identical systems, the Wii needs to exist as a counterpoint. By using graphics from the last generation of game consoles, it keeps production costs down for developers--much like the DS. Why should we have three of the exact same system? The market cannot support that--Hell, it can't support two of them as it is. That situation was exactly what we had with the Gamecube. Nintendo made a "me too" system and got left out in the rain. Now, they've adopted a new business plan, and it's really working out for them. Are they going to get Grand Theft Auto? No, but there already exist two consoles that do, so it's not that huge of a loss.
I guess you win. But that doesn't make the Wii better. It would be better if it was even more unique by having both types of games. 360/PS3 and Wii.Im glad that Nintendo is trying to be Unique again. Like what Miyamto said
I actually kind of agree with this. Guru miyamto lol.The consensus was that power isn't everything for a console. Too many powerful consoles can't coexist. It's like having only ferocious dinosaurs. They might fight and hasten their own extinction.

I'm not going to lie, you're absolutely right. I wish that I had one system that had all of the coolness and features of all three consoles. The same argument can be made against all of the current consoles, however. "Man, I sure wish my XBOX 360 had pointer controls." "Dude, the PS3 would be so much cooler if it had the Wii's Virtual Console library." "Why can't GTA IV come out for the Wii?" There are always going to complaints for every system, period. I think the Wii has been a success by being the next logical step in video game gameplay, but I also would sell Nintendo a kidney for a storage solution. The Wii isn't perfect, I do think it's the best of the three consoles, but it's very far from perfect. I believe that you need to give it a chance, and let some good games have the opportunity to come out on it before you call it a failure (it's only been a year and a half!).I guess you win. But that doesn't make the Wii better. It would be better if it was even more unique by having both types of games. 360/PS3 and Wii.
Are you serious? Factor Five is a great company. They had one bad game in Lair, but aside from that, they made some amazing games. Are you sure we could already say that Kid Icarus is gonna be good? The basic gameplay hasn't even been announced yet, and the developers don't have a fantastic record of games...
Also, yay cheeseheads.
Well, they did do Star Wars Rogue Squadron: Rogue Leader. At the time it was just about the most graphically advanced game ever made (and it's still pretty easy on the eyes).I honestly don't know much about them. I don't think they've released many truly amazing games, though, at least in my opinion... still, I take back what I said then.
The point still stands about the gameplay part, though...
I agree with everything you said(except for Wii being the best). I do believe that there will be good games on the Wii. I'm not denying that. I just think the games that come out on the PS3/360 are much better. I really like Mario, Zelda and Metroid. But how often do we get those. It's just that on the PS3/360 you get games of those quality all the time. But you have to wait a long time for them on the Wii. The casualization also sucks. I usually would love Mario Kart and Smash. I have waited so long for them and was very disappointed.I'm not going to lie, you're absolutely right. There's alot of life left in that little white lump.
Where would MOHH2 without the controls? It's Controls are great but the rest of the game is kinda meh. This thread fails to mention some amazing games for the Wii that no one seems to remember.
Medal of Honors Heroes 2 is by far one of my greatest experiences with a FPS. I was never really a console FPS, I always played PC FPS. But the controls are amazing. If FPS companies actually made an attempt to make a great FPS like MoHH2, the Wii would dominate.
You bought a 360 for the graphics? The Wii has plenty of great games coming out.
De blob
Kid Icarus
The Conduit
Castlevania fighter announced(Konami won't mess this up)
Mega Man 9
Tiger Woods 09 (They said it's by far one of the best Golf games ever)
Tales of Symphonia
Plus all the new games they are going to announce at E3.
The Wii is obviously not going to have Amazing graphics games, but that's why I bought a 360 as well.
Factor 5 helped Nintendo make the GCN's developers kit. There also known to push a system to it's limits. You should Expect great things from it. Sad thing is, they hinted that it will be a casual title in the IGN podcast. Maybe they meant something else or maybe they'll change their minds. I don't know. Are you sure we could already say that Kid Icarus is gonna be good? The basic gameplay hasn't even been announced yet, and the developers don't have a fantastic record of games...
I'd tend not to agree with that. That seems like you're seeing what you want to see there. Not every game for the PS3/360 is a AAA title--far from it, by reading through some IGN reviews. Sure, they're pretty in large part but it seems like a lot of those games are just generic games built from nearly identical engines that are just sort of...boring. And they're almost all shooters....I really like Mario, Zelda and Metroid. But how often do we get those. It's just that on the PS3/360 you get games of those quality all the time. But you have to wait a long time for them on the Wii.
Nintendo is doing EXACTLY what they should be in tapping the casual market here. Casual games sell consoles, create large install bases, and make developers take notice, then hardcore games fill out the library and beef up the attach rate. The Wii looks like it's going to follow the DS way of doing things: A good number of casual games (Nintendogs, New Super Mario Bros., The "Training" Games) that get people to adopt the console, then once the numbers get big the hardcore games come out from the woodwork and create a great library. The casualization also sucks. I usually would love Mario Kart and Smash. I have waited so long for them and was very disappointed.
Harmonix absolutely screwed Wii owners on Rock Band. They just ported the already craptastic PS2 version just to get it out to the market before Guitar Hero: World Tour--which is going to be a fantastic game, as Wii owners are getting exactly the game that it is on 360 and PS3.Of those three games, Rock Band is the only one on the Wii, and it's a massively watered-down version without DLC. Mega Man 9 could change this by letting developers go old school at whim. Time will tell, really.
There not all AAA titles. But a lot of them are just as awesome as Mario and Zelda. There's always something that keeps you busy. Almost every game now has some form of multiplayer and online. I could check out Demos and try it out(I played Battlefield demo online for a month). There's just always great games to keep you busy. I have a hard time keeping up. I don't have to wait.I'd tend not to agree with that. That seems like you're seeing what you want to see there. The thing is, there will always be new games coming out on WiiWare. I would hope to have games coming from both groups. Hardcore Nostalgia games, as wel as indy developers making their own new games. The problem with that is it makes MM9 set for just nostalgia. They are marketing the game to the people who were ***** to shreds by those games as kids. How is that a problem? One of the best features of Wiiware (PSN/XBLA) is the fact that it was a medium to create new games that were low cost, innovative, and fun. With a blatant attack on nostalgia, we may start seeing more "rom-like" games for sale for a lot more than if they were in their respect Virtual Console.
The thing is, that's going to present a fantastic hardcore counterpoint to what's been released for the service so far. For every "low cost, innovative, and fun" game that get's released, we're going to need something like old-school Mega Man, or Ikaruga that's going to make even the most jaded gamer sweat. We've got plenty pick-up-and-play games on WiiWare already, now for some ***-kicking.The problem with that is it makes MM9 set for just nostalgia. I personally think there's been plenty to keep me busy with on the Wii (Brawl, Kart, Paper Mario, Galaxy, Okami, Resident Evil 4, Twilight Princess, Corruption) but that's a to each his own situation. The list I just said right there covers 7 genres, and each of those is a AAA title. I looked up the games on IGN that scored a 9.0 or above, and it just reads like, "Shooter, Shooter, Shooter, Action RPG, Shooter, Shooter, Shooter, Music, Shooter..." I like FPSs, I really do, but I also like...other games. They make me happy too.NeBz said:There not all AAA titles. But a lot of them are just as awesome as Mario and Zelda. But that's completely the opposite for wii.
Were those from the 360? The 360 has a little too much FPSs I agree but don't ignore the all the other games of different genres on it. Personally, I picked up the PS3 instead of a 360 because I think it's more varied. Yeah, that was the 360 list, and that was almost verbatim. I'm not ignoring the other genres on the console, developers are. Were those from the 360? don't forget:I noticed following Nintendo policy there is usually
1 Mario Platform Game (Galaxy on Wii)
1 Mario Kart Game (Mario Kart Wii)
1 Good LOZ game (Twilight Princess although there is hope since it was for GCN too)
1 Smash Brothers Game (Brawl)
In fact Nintendo usually just creates one good game for each system and moves on so is the Wii in trouble now?
The last time more then one Mario Platform game was made was for Gameboy and Original NES.
N64 had two LoZ games although MM was not that great.
However, the pattern seems to hold true unfortunately.
Ahem....don't forget:
1 starfox game
1 kirby game
and the gc had 2 metroid games... so mabey another for wii?
&& there were 3 good LOZ games for gamecube
Wind Waker, Four Swords Adventure, TP
sorry man i already stated it. No hard feelingsStill Missing
1-2 Star Fox games(N64 had 1 and NGC had 2)
2 LoZ games(Twilight was a port so dunno if it counts as 1 Wii version)
1 Kirby game
And this one articles states that STAR FOX Wii has been in developement for a year already and Miyamoto tested it. Hopefully its true. Miyamoto did say that the NGC Star Fox's suck.
And why the hell is Pit in Brawl any ways? He's there for no reason. Kid Icarus game hint?
So when is the new Ice Climbers game coming? :OAnd why the hell is Pit in Brawl any ways? He's there for no reason. Kid Icarus game hint?
And what’s changed with the Wii?The ironic thing is that Nintendo were basically uncreative and 'the same' ever since the NES.
Bowser kidnaps Princess. Mario saves her
Ganon kidnaps princess. Link saves her
Dedede is possessed by something. Meta Knight's mask breaks. Kirby battle a nightmare
K.Rool steals DK's bananas and either DK himself or another Kong. Team of Kongs stop K.Rool.
Someone asks Wario for help. Wario declines. Person promise Wario to keep any treasure he finds, Wario agrees to help.
But obviously, no one cared then because Nintendo was catering to them. But as soon as they cater to someone else, they complain about Nintendo doing the same thing over and over. *scoffs*
And define reasoning? What reasoning did the majority of hardcore players ditched Nintendo ? What reasoning did hardcore gamers called the N64 and GC kiddy? Obviously, as a business, Nintendo wants to make money, and the when the majority of one demograph stops buying your stuff, try to sale to another demograph. Morale wise, that's low. Ecnomically wise, the best option you have.
BTW, when a company DOES do something different, it's usually met with nagging from the so called fans. Case in point: Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts; Mortal Kombat vs DC
As soon as another "real" console gets more than three games I'm interested in, alright.
What? I don't get it.
Exactly what I would’ve said first and in response, Demon Kirby.Neither the Xbox 360 nor the PS3 have enough games on them to make me want to buy them.
Agreed. Graphics and controls do not define anything. It’s the gameplay, it’s the experience, it’s the type of thing that makes you look fondly back on a game and the experiences you’ve had with it.Because controls define generations and not the quality of the games themselves. Sure. Now that you mention it, the PS3 does feel a lot like the PS. Yarily.
@derek: The Wii doesn't have a single FPS that can stand up to Halo
Yeah, PC is definitely the best for FPSs. The controls are great, (the mouse is practically motion control, when you think about it) and I have enjoyed practically every FPS that I’ve played for PC (and I generally don’t like FPSs that much). Plus, the keyboard makes for easy communication.C'mon. Seriously, I just gave you a list.
And I agree about the PC being the best for FPSs.
Yeah, this is the same for me. I like a few FPSs, but…eh.Everything except FPSs, racers and sports games... ?
Woosh.
It’s great that we’re getting third party games, but that’s NOT why I buy Nintendo consoles. I buy Nintendo consoles for the first party games, although I don’t exclude third party games. I just won’t say “Wow, the Wii is awesome because it has this third party title!” or buy a whole console based on third party titles.Who's getting the Star Wars: Clone Wars Lightsaber Duels game this fall? Who's getting Castlevania Judgement? Who's getting Mushroom Men? Who's getting the all new, NES-style Mega Man 9? Wii are.
And don't forget, those are all 3rd party games. The 1st party games will be unveiled at E3, so I think the last two quarters of this year will belong to the Wii. I'm actually excited for the Wii now, despite my recently strewn opposition. Nintendo has held off, but we're about to get kicked in the face with a lot of great gaming.
The Wii is different from the PS3 and XBox 360 in that it's bringing back and revitializing everything that is nostaglic. For the PS3 and XBox 360, their games are upgrades and sequels. For the Wii, its an experience of memories and living these memories with the present and its people.
I could not have phrased this better. I never even thought of this, but you’re right. The Wii is a bunch of crap put together. It’s got one new addition after another—the Nunchuk, the Classic Controller, the Zapper, the Wheel, the Balance Board…honestly, WHAT THE HECK?Another problem is the controller or should I say controllers. If you want to play most VC games, you'll need to use a gamecube or classic controller. That's extra money to spend. Plus you have to plug them into your system/wiimote each time you want to use them. Then you have the nunchuk as another controller on top of that. Then if you want to play wii fit, pay lots of money for the balance board. The console has too many gimmicks and accessories that shouldn't have been needed in the first place.
This. I might actually consider buying a PS3 considering how well my Wii has turned out, but I can’t afford to buy another console (especially not a PS3, the most expensive one). If I were to buy every other console to get every experience, I’d have to eat them. Not everyone can save pennies and get another console. Money needs to be spent on a lot of other things. Most people can only buy one console.
Yeah…the only reason people are excited about this (from what I can tell) is that it’s a sequel to Kid Icarus, which has been asked for for years. A NiGHTS sequel was requested for years as well, and the sequel was a piece of crap. You can’t assume it’s going to be great just because it’s another game in the series. Maybe it’s just because Sega can’t do anything right these days, as they clearly can’t, but…Are you sure we could already say that Kid Icarus is gonna be good? The basic gameplay hasn't even been announced yet, and the developers don't have a fantastic record of games...
Also, yay cheeseheads.
I love both Metroid and Zelda, and I wouldn’t say Final Fantasy is a mix of the two at all…neither is an RPG, for one. What we need is a whole new franchise.
Something like a mix between Zelda and Metroid-
O wait, thats Final Fantasy, isn't it?
They’re not “tapping”, and hardcore games are not “filling out the library”. Hardcore games are few and far between. I don't know where you're getting these hardcore games from, but I haven't heard of any of them. Twilight Princess and Corruption (and probably Radiant Dawn, but I haven't played it) are the only two games thus far I'd call hardcore, and that's probably only because motion sensor either didn't exist or fit in well, and there wasn't multiplayer. Clearly multiplayer gets dumbed down for casual gamers so it becomes a party game *cough*Brawl*cough*.Nintendo is doing EXACTLY what they should be in tapping the casual market here.
In the new age, saying something is old school can be bad. But actual old school is great.****it, man. Old School =/= good
I'm worried about these old school games like MM9 and Wario Land Shake. Because for one thing, nostalgic usually clouds judgment. I'm not saying past games are bad, I'm saying that when companies have the sudden urge to revive past series, people somehow have the reason to compare said new addition to the old one. Throw in nostalgia lust and nasty habits of comparing games in series and this new game could be a serious disappointment to people when in reality, the new game itself was average or above average at worst.
ALL of those are AAA titles? No. Brawl was the biggest disappointment in the history of forever, Mario Kart is okay but the addition of really stupid characters is stupid, Paper Mario killed the RPG the game used to be (I liked it before), Galaxy was too easy and not entirely fun. Okami and Resident Evil 4 I haven’t played, Twilight Princess and Corruption are AAA. But not all of those are AAA titles, and notice that THREE of those are Mario games. There are way too many Mario spinoffs. Mario has some good games, but I personally don’t like him that much. As a character, I hate him. There’s nothing likeable about him in my opinion. Nintendo milks him like there’s no tomorrow but, and maybe this is just me, but I think they think he’s more than he is. Do that many people really like Mario?I personally think there's been plenty to keep me busy with on the Wii (Brawl, Kart, Paper Mario, Galaxy, Okami, Resident Evil 4, Twilight Princess, Corruption) but that's a to each his own situation. I don't play any game competitively. Brawl still didn't stand up to Melee at all. And 90% of reviews are made pretty soon after one starts playing the game. For my first month, I'd have given it a perfect 10 while I'd give it much less now. Millions of copies being sold means nothing. Sequels to movies always get more sales than the originals, yet most of the time aren't as good. People expected the game to be as good as Melee and bought it. Also, most of the people I know got bored of the game around the same time I did. There are obviously many who still like Brawl, (simply on this forum) but a lot don't. And in my opinion, in the way Brawl was hyped and everything, it was a disappointment. Like it or not, it doesn't stand up to Melee.I just want to point something out that alot of you are failing to understand. Brawl was not a big dissapointment to the majority of people in this world. A very small majority play this game competatively. The rest play it to have fun, and most of those people LOVE the game. It didn't sell millions of copies, and get great reviews for nothing.
You're right. We should've seen it coming, but...someone even tried to warn me, but I wouldn't hear it. Agh, I swear, Nintendo Power says all this great stuff about something and all of a sudden I'm convinced it's great. How does that happen? They've said that about a ton of different things on which I've been tricked.I agree with nearly everything FirustheHedgehog a few posts up. Really though, we should have known the Wii would end up being a piece of crap when the revealed the "revolution" to be called the Wii. Everyone I knew thought it was a terrible name. When you say it, it pretty much implies casual gamer and little kid. They've been dropping hints for a while that they were headed towards totally gimped games.
I feel the absolute reverse way. Wind Waker>Twilight Princess>OoT. Everyone raves about OoT, but...I don't see what they see in it. Maybe it's just the nostalgia that makes people love it--that's probably true for a lot of games that I love, as much as I hate to admit it. I didn't play OoT until I got Collector's Edition, so it's not until recently, meaning that nostalgia wouldn't be there.Off topic, I liked Twilight Princess better than Windwaker, but it doesn't live up to the epic feeling you got from Ocarina Of Time.
Those aren't all the AAA titles by any means, those just happened to be the ones currently sitting on my shelf. Galaxy was a blast, and it'll be remembered as the game that changed the platforming genre forever--plus, it was just **** beautiful. Brawl is just as much fun of a party game as Melee was--probably moreso. Super Paper Mario was a genius fusion of traditional Mario action and RPG elements--nothing I could even start to call bad there.ALL of those are AAA titles? No. Brawl was the biggest disappointment in the history of forever, Mario Kart is okay but the addition of really stupid characters is stupid, Paper Mario killed the RPG the game used to be (I liked it before), Galaxy was too easy and not entirely fun. It's called innovation. The Wii is changing the way we play games--I honestly cannot see how that's a bad thing. And, how is the balance board any different than a Guitar Hero guitar? Plus, it's going to be used for more than just one series of games. The Zapper is far from necessary, as is the Classic Controller--these are all optional, giving players ways options that suit them best.I could not have phrased this better. I never even thought of this, but you’re right. The Wii is a bunch of crap put together. It’s got one new addition after another—the Nunchuk, the Classic Controller, the Zapper, the Wheel, the Balance Board…honestly, WHAT THE HECK?
How about No More Heroes? Or Pro Evolution Soccer? There's also Scarface and The Godfather, not to mention Trauma Center. Guitar Hero III sold better on the Wii than on any other console. Then, the Wii did get Geometry Wars: Galaxies and Blastworks. There're hardcore games on the Wii, they're just not all shooters (thank God).hey’re not “tapping”, and hardcore games are not “filling out the library”. Still doesn't explain how you think the PS3 or 360 is better. I'm sure they never change much in their gameplay or controls as well. And what’s changed with the Wii?
Super Mario Galaxy: Bowser kidnaps Princess. Mario saves her.
Twilight Princess: Ganon kidnaps Princess. Link saves her.
Etc.
It’s the same thing still. THAT is not what I was talking about. It’s the same GAMEPLAY with motion sensor for everything. Is there some innovation? Yeah, the Clawshot in Twilight Princess was AMAZING, especially double ones, for one. But many games seem so fun and innovative at first glance until you realize, “Wait…motion sensor is the only thing that’s added. Everything else is the same thing as last gen.” Don’t accuse me of being upset because they’re catering to someone else, it’s that it’s the same crap as last gen masked by motion sensor controls.
No, old school =/= always good.In the new age, saying something is old school can be bad. But actual old school is great.
But most of the time, I don’t think games that companies make with the concept of nostalgia in mind are usually that great, at least not from my experience. I never played the original NiGHTS, so nostalgia didn’t cloud my judgment for that game. Sonic and the Secret Rings was said to bring Sonic back to his roots, but you don’t have to compare that to the old games to be able to say “Wow, this is a load of crap.”
