In a summer camp brochure, (a math camp; yes I am a nerd) I was reading the list of rules. Same as usual rules--Don't smoke, Don't kill, Don't have sex--except gazing down the page, I spotted quite a few odd rules.
"No Nintendo...
No Gameboys"
It went on to say that "these kinds of games take up an immense amount of time" and basically claimed they are addictive.

I do believe that you should not bring video games to math camp, but...
Why do you gotta hate Nintendo?!?

Really, has anyone ever heard of how addicting GTA4 can get (no offense to non-addicted GTA4 players.)
Why are Sony and Microsoft not being persecuted? I don't understand?

Their marketting campains are so overhyped, especially Microsoft, so they lure kids into getting their crappy games and systems.

In other words, the cheap way out.

They do come out with their goods, but you have to tell me one good PSP game, and if it's also on a console, it's better.

Xbox 360's have a 30% fail rate.

Nintendo doesn't need to make their games look "awesome" by stupid marketting ploys. They simply go with the flow yet providing excellent games and great reputition.

I think it's really just a bunch of people who don't know much about video games at all, yet know that "Nintendo" is a gaming system (probably the only one they really grew up with knowing, especially if they didn't play anything themselves)

So they're just utilizing the word "Nintendo" hoping for it to be synonymous with "Nintendo, Xbox360, Playstation3, PSP, DS, etc"

In my opinion, kids pretty much pick a game out of a hat that seems "awesome" on TV, and boom! You got yourself a retarted yet genious marketting campaign.

And I'm around their ages too.

Most parents let their kids play video games to keep them quiet.

Or don't let them play at all and make them un-happy, one of the two.

Um... Nintendo is still sometimes used an encompassing word for all video games in general. It's like how some people refer to all soda as "Coke" or tissues as "Kleenex."
I agree. They were probablly just referring to any hand-held games. In example, I will be playing X box 360 and my parents will tell me to turn that "nintendo" off.

Yep.

Besides, many more people hate microsoft and Sony.

I especially hate microsoft, but still buy their system because I HAVE to play Banjo-Kazooie 3...

Nintendo = Gaming like Band-Aid = any type of bandage healer.

Just a company typo. It happens a lot.

"OOO, you have an ipod?!"
"No, it's just a no name MP3 player..."

I can attest to this. I have an Xbox360, and there's only 3 games I like on it so far. Bioshock, overlord, and dead rising. (Halo series is ok too, but I can play that at a buddies house without needing to buy it)

With Wii there's a bunch more games that I want. mostly due to the fact that they're not some sports or fps ripoff. And no offense to sports and fps fans, but sports aren't my thing, and fps's can be replicated too easily without enough creative input.

People shouldn't really hold a grudge on video game systems.

If you're abusive, you get rings of death.
If you're impatient, you get long load times and glitches.
If you're lazy, you get tired playing wii.

All the game systems have their pros and cons. I'd rather pay attention to games than hold a grudge on a video game system because it competes with my preferred system. And with a little save up and responsible use of money, you can afford all the game systems very fast. Besides:

Wii = 5-6 games + 1 for every 2 accessories you need with it (controller attachments, charger etc)
[Caps extremely high b/c of so many different accessories]
PS3= 9-10 games + 1 for every extra controller needed
[Caps at 6]
360= 8 games + 1 for every accessory and missing experience attachment you need to get to on par with the other systems.
[Caps a little higher than PS3 + an extra one for every month of online play you want]

(If you do the math, it's true, they all cost the same once you have all of what you need for each)

Even if you're poor, it's easy to work the system. I did it.

My 360 nearly died trying to play CoD4. Luckily it was sent to the hospital (Microsoft) and it was all better in two-three weeks.

I find it very ironic how Nintendo is the only gaming company left that makes pure innocent games yet is blamed for all the violence the PS3 and X-box 360 cause.:chuckle:

Real men/women go to video game camps...

:p

Those people sound like dumb stereotypers, the kind that think all video games are made by Nintendo.
Anyways there are other companies that have way more hate than Nintendo, Burger King for example, all the poor fat people that can't stop because they are addicted to cardboard that they put inside food.

lolz

Nintedo was mentioned because they dominate the handheld market.
Handhelds that you can bring to your math camp.
I don't think anyone would try to smuggle in a 360...

Old people just tend say 'Nintendo' instead of a video game console. It comes from the nes/snes. People just called them "the nintendo".

Watch 80's movies. You'll see.

What kind of idiocy is this? What if I want to go to camp (not like I still can at my age) but want to have the option to play a handheld game once in a while? Like when there are activities I don't want to participate in? Or when we're just lounging around doing nothing?

They make these rules with the assumption that all kids lack any semblance of self-control, so they take it upon themselves (the camp directors, that is) to limit the kids' "irrational" urges.

Also correlates with the fact that a large majority of adults are very biased against video games/modern technology in general with the mindset that they "waste time."

I for one never really understood these bans when I attended similar types of camps as a kid either.

yeah most people just refer to all videogames as nintendo, when my parents do that my brothers and i correct them, now they just say turn the console off, or more recently stop playing brawl.

I dont understand why people think playing videogames is a waste of time..

I mean, there are people who think that staring at a wall is a better way to occupy your time...

So they make these rules for me?

Well not anymore, I'm 22, but if I was let near a console/handheld/whatever as a kid, it was </real life> right away.
