New news, so new thread (instead of burying it in the console thread)

Two extra shoulder buttons, a small nub to emulate a 2nd stick, better 3D viewing angles, and better processing. Comes in an XL version too. No info for regions outside of Japan just yet. It's safe to expect that there will be software dedicated for this new 3DS. Along with the new hardware, Nintendo revealed a Xenoblade port.

I didn't actually notice the shoulder buttons when seeing it for the first time. That's actually pretty neat. The better 3D is also super appreciated, because I love the effect, but I end up shifting around so much that it becomes pointless.

Really kind of glad I didn't pick up a normal XL yet. My condolences to anyone who did, though.

I could see Spring 2015, to be honest. Mostly because this year would be really soon after the Japanese one, 2015 Winter (the one that includes January) would be really soon after the major buying season, so a lot of people would probably be strapped for cash.

They should try and get it in before the holday season ends which would make more people want to buy it cause it would be a great christmas gift.

Oh, they definitely should, but I'm guessing that the Direct would've been worldwide if it was happening like that. If we don't see a release date by, say, end of September, then I'd say we can count it out for a launch that takes advantage of Christmas/Black Friday.

Oh man, thank the heavens I never had the chance to get an XL. Now I can get this without remorse.
Also, is anyone else peeved by the fact that only the regular N3DS gets the white w/ japanese snes colored buttons, I would buy that instantaneously if it was the XL version. I'm most likely going to end up getting that sweet MonHun4 N3DS, it look sliiiiick.

One of my issues is that only the smaller one gets the awesome super famicom buttons and faceplates, wanted it for the LL too. I probably won't get one, at least not for awhile. I need to see if they're willing to support it with lots of software. Now if only Kid Icarus could be patched for extra controls...

And while I know some people are criticizing Nintendo for skipping the holiday season (if they are) outside of the US, I can see why. They really want to prioritize the Wii U and I don't blame them.

I'm in no rush right now though. I expect developers will want to take advantage of the improved specs, but I'll wait and see for now.

YOU GUYS ARE SUPPORTING THIS, THE BEAST IS REAL AND YOU GUYS ARE FEEDING IT, the same way Disney fed Miley Cyrus' ego, The same way people fed Lindsay Lohan and we all know how that will turn out.

The only 'bad' thing I see coming from this is that the original 3DS (and original XL) will slowly be phased out, with New 3DS being the standard model, along with an equally slow trickle of New 3DS exclusive games until the standardization is complete.

So yeah, eventually some people WILL have to switch if they want to keep up with things, but it doesn't seem like much difference from a new console gen, just... y'know, no new name and less of an upgrade.

I don't know but the fee exists because Nintendo doesn't want kids viewing porn on their 3DS's (Or is it 3DS-i as a plural?). Basically Nintendo is trying to be the parent.

This is why Nintendo's audiences don't really consist of core gamers anymore...

Obviously you have never been in a situation when the only viable wireless internet capable device is a 3DS or something similar lol or you were never a 14 year old male

I do not understand why some of you think because Nintendo stuck on a cstick (c-nub is a better descriptor) and a couple other buttons that it is going to render all 3DS/2DS/XL obsolete lol.....I have Smash 4 (so even if the Nu3Ds was a replacement and not another option I have THE game I only ever needed to have....now I do) and a system that looks 100x better than a 2 or 3 DS.

It is just a new "option" in their "3DS" series.

And if not,.oh well... if it's worth it or if I decide I want one I will buy it. And I will love my xl. Just like I still like my 2DS, my DS, GB advance, game boy, and every other game.system or things I love/loved or I bought. It's not like any of these handhelds are 400 Or 500 dollars..... and even that isn't "a lot" of money. Not if you are a hard-working responsible wise and educated person who an industrious and hard working citizen

Not to defend the obsolete argument, but to be fair the hardware in the n3DS is better, which is why it's getting at least one exclusive. Again, I'd imagine they're going to slowly phase out the original 3DS/2DS line in favor of the New 3DS over the next year or so.

See, I was going to do similar, and then it was announced we'd be getting the Persona Q 3DS XL. Now I'm just gonna wait for a nice special edition or bundle for the New 3DS.

It's possible they won't be doing that many special edition 3DSs because of face plates. I guess they do LE face plates though.

I don't regret getting my XL, it has better battery capacity, the screens are amazing, etc. Major upgrade from my 2DS that I sold it to family rather than trade it in for peanuts. Some people don't like the SSB4.XL but I love it. I have a good year before it's even maybe necessary to buy the NEW 3DS...what game could they possibly release that I would just HAVE to have? Hasn't it also been confirmed the cnub won't even work with Smash 4?

Nope, the C-nub works with Smash.
