How about an Ice Climbers-style thing where you play as Squirtle, Ivy and Chari simultaneously? This seems like it would be easy to balance and also would give everybody what they want. Most importantly, it would make space for :pichumelee:
That's the HARDEST way to do it.

@ D duffmmann , just let it go. People in this forums never understand why PT was an important addition to Brawl as a different concept of a character and gives different unrelated arguments:
  1. People never understand that the only matter with PT's gameplays is the forced switches, the stamina system and the elemental weaknesses (I actually can live with this last one, but better if it is off). Probably some of them never play with it. If PT just does not have this three stuffs, could be more viable competitively and don't have to disappear.
  2. People never understand that the new downB of the three characters does not exclude the possibility to add Pokemon Change to another combination of buttons (PMBR actually demonstrate that is possible with the Lucario's special system). Don't confuse: the new Bubble/Seed/Jump moves are excellent additions to the trio, but that has nothing to do with Pokemon Change.
  3. People never understand that double/triple characters offers new ways to play it that just with one character. A double character like Zelda you can play it just as Zelda, or just as Sheik, or being a combination or both in which you can mix them using one of them as a principal and the other as a secondary. With PT this become one step deeper, in order to master all three characters is a HUGE challenge. Or just play with one or two of them. This only can bring versatility to a character, but never be a limitation despite of people's empty argues.
  4. People never understand that PT has nothing to do with balance problems in PM. If you play in PM with Melee top tier characters (Sheik, Falco, Falcon, etc), there is a lot work actually do by the PMBR (excellent work, I did not saying otherwise), but if you play with the entire roster, you can see some characters who have several problems to deal with some others. Balance is a big problem in fighting games with so big roster like Brawl and PMBR still have a lot of work to do, but taking PT away for free will not solve a thing.
  5. People never understand that PM is just a mod, made by modders (human beings), and his fanaticism turn them incapable to be objective, so you will receive answers such as: "PT never come back", "that will never happen", "end of discussion" and so on, so yes, that make effectively impossible to take back PT.
So @ D duffmmann , just give up. You are so lucky that your thread has not closed yet, but is a lost battle what you are fighting for. The only possibilities remaining is just accept the things how they are or simply turn back to Melee.

Hey can I call you dumb*** for a minute? Why are you reviving a two month old dead thread that you yourself say isn't a battle worth fighting for dumb***?

6. People that will name you "dumb", "stupid", "noob", etc (for any reason). That guys just ignore them. They are incapable to comprehend that if people had for good habit to use the browser, some things like this could happen.

Hey Kerenthar you're looking a little goth today, the stresses of life got you down? That would be ever so tragic.

Isn't it a problem for one character to be able to adjust to a favorable match-up?

If it was PT instead of three Pokemon then that makes them one character.

Now this is for example. If Charizard beats Red tier, Squirtle beats Blue Tier, and Ivysaur beats Green tier characters respectively, doesn't that show imbalance in character design for the goal that PM has set?

Characters in Project M are supposed to have nearly balanced match-ups and not a high number of positive/negative match-ups.

Having three different viable characters is extremely hard to balance because of this because even if 2 of the pokemon suffer the match-up, the third might be overwhelmingly good in the match-up, Making the match-up imbalanced in PT's favor.

This is not to say that it can't be done. But the problem is that in order to balance this, each of the individual pokemon would probably have to be nerfed in order to reach a more balanced match-up. This would make the Pokemon that are bad in the specific match-up even worse in those specific match-ups and the Pokemon that is good in the match-up just balanced in the match up.

It isn't "less representation" because all of the pokemon are still there. Two extra slots on the character select screen isn't that big a deal. If anything taking the pokemon trainer out would be less representation because that removes a "character" rather than add one.
