I live in Northern California, and I was wondering if there are any tournaments or places where I can play friendlies? I've got a basic grasp of tech skill, but I want to learn more and improve

Norcal is the Heart of the WC melee socal is trying to become that and its doing a good job, But norcal is where most of it began. Look it up, if you do some googleing you might find a facebook page with Norcal in it. Best of luck!
