Mametchi Support Thread

Nintendo Games

Tamagotchi (Game Boy)
64 de Hakken! Tamagotchi Minna de Tamagotchi World (Nintendo 64)
Tamagotchi Town (Super Nintendo)
Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop (Nintendo DS)
Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop 2 (Nintendo DS)
Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop 3 (Nintendo DS)
Tamagotchi no Kira Kira Omisetchi (Nintendo DS)
Tamagotchi no Appare! Niji-Venture (Nintendo DS)
Tamagotchi: Party On! (Nintendo Wii)
Tamagotchi: Dance Fever! (Nintendo Wii)
Tamagotchi no Narikiri Channel (Nintendo DS)
Tamagotchi no Narikiri Challenge (Nintendo DS)
Tamagotchi no Pichi Pichi Omisetchi (Nintendo DS)
Everyday House Tamagotchi (Nintendo 3DS)
Tamagotchi Collection (Nintendo DS)
Tamagotchi! Classes of Dream School (Nintendo 3DS)
Tamagotchi Exciting Dream Corner Shop (Nintendo 3DS)
Round and Round Tamagotchi! (Nintendo 3DS)
Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 (Arcade)

Rationale

Mametchi has a lengthy history with Nintendo, with a game library spanning across various consoles and handhelds. Mametchi could be included as Namco's second rep, since Capcom has a second rep being Ryu. Mametchi would bring unique game representation not yet present in Smash, which is virtual pets. Mametchi is also insanely popular in Japan. Mametchi was playable alongside Mario and Pacman in Mario Kart Arcade GP 2. Perhaps this inclusion could be a sign that Namco considers Mametchi to be one of their front running characters.

A Tamagotchi character could be interesting and they do technically have a history in gaming. >w>

I'll give Mametchi the benefit of the doubt. The character and franchise is recognizable to most of the gaming world, and he would make sense from a business standpoint.

Unfortunately, I can already see the fan outcry. "What gives, Namco? You could've established the Tales series as a Final Fantasy major competitior with Lloyd Irving! You could've expanded on Klonoa by adding Klonoa! Heck, Kos-Mos is a better Japanese Namco rep! And you own the Dark Souls series in the name of immediately relatable representation! Gosh, Namco! You're a Spoony Bard."

I've wanted a Tamagotchi character since the word broke of Namco-Bandai helping with SSB4. Mametchi seems like a suitable pick because of his appearance in Mario Kart arcade, but I think it would be neat if he always began his stock in a hatchling form and transformed over time, or from damage given and taken. Anyway, I support.

I like the positivity this thread received...

Made it a bit on a whim, but I couldn't ignore the history with Nintendo and gaming in general...

Tamagotchi was a pretty big deal in the 90's and the virtual pet doesn't have representation in smash...

Which I feel would be a nice gaming niche to have present in smash.

Namco brought us the arcade all star Pacman, it would only be appropriate they also gave us the virtual pet all star Tamagotchi.

I'm sorry.
But there's one virtual pet from Namco that I feel stands more iconic.
I won't deny Digimons relevance or impact as a multimedia franchise.
But i'm at a impasse, I feel Digimon doesn't have the abundant history and exclusivity that Tamagotchi has with Nintendo.

Plus when I compare digital monsters to tamagotchi... well Tamagotchi was the original virtual pet...
And pokemon was the ogirinal monster tamer/ trainer.

Why go with the copy when you can have the original ;)

I just put Agumon higher, personally due to the history, arguably stronger iconicism with Agumon vs Mametchi, more natural fit for combat, and of course the :4pikachu: rivalry akin to :4mario: vs :4sonic:
Totally get your points.

(And on the DS I know there were 4 exclusive Digimon titles that went world wide alone).

If I was given a choice I personally would want Agumon over Mametchi too.
I just feel Namco and Nintendo may put Mametchi as a higher priority.
Just with the inclusion in Mario Kart, plus the popularity in Japan more than likely exceeds that of Digimon.

Mametchi (much like Pacman) is the poster child of a gaming style.
Mametchi may not be iconic globally but Tamagotchi certainly is.
Everyone and their mother owned or knew what a Tamagotchi was in the 90's.
If they didn't own one, they owned a knock off and still referred to it as a Tamagotchi.
In the west Virtual Pet and Tamagotchi became synonymous.
Ask the parents of any 90's kids and even they would recognize or remember Tamagotchi.

I have some stuff to say
I'm not really a 90's kid, I was born exactly the year 2000
But I still owned a Tamagotchi
It was like the best thing, here in Perú
And everyone wanted one
There were also a LOT of bootleg ones
Me, my sister and my cousin had one for each of us
That was one of the best things from my childhood
Recently, when I discovered that there was a Tamagotchi anime
I started making some research about the series
I even made this gif of Kuchipatchi

Then, one day I thought to myself
Wouldn't be cool if a Tamagotchi character was playable in Smash?
Mametchi being the representative, since he's the mascot of the series
So, to sum it up

I support Mametchi 4 Smash!

Your an honorary 90's kid at heart.

I gotta say I had no idea how to make a tamagotchi work, constantly resetting it with the button on the back, thing would always die basically between class and recess.

I remember playing a LOT with my Tamagotchi
They grew up really fast and I had a ton of them :drohyou:
But today, I don't even remember the size of the toy XD
Though, I remember connecting to the website, making my Tamagotchi travel, visiting my old Tamagotchi
I even played some of the Tamagotchi Corner shop games :dr-_-:
As you can see, Tamagotchis was a big part of my childhood
Here is something about Mametchi:

"Mametchi is a very healthy adult Tamagotchi who is likely to have a long life. He is extremely clever with an IQ of around 250. He is a serious prodigy type, and one of the smartest Tamagotchis"
That's from the Tamagotchi wikia
"Count yourself as a good parent if you end up with Mametchi. It's the Tamagotchi equivalent of a mathematical genius, and very polite to boot."
And that's from the Nintendo Power guide to the Tamagotchi Gameboy game
Maybe using different gadgets and inventions to fight?
He seems to be very intelligent!
Also, his birthday is the same date as the release of the first Tamagotchi :drflip:
Doubt that would happen if he gets in, but he already has some nice costumes
