Knee Recovery

Hello, I'm a new member and I'm trying to improve my Falcon game.

This may seem like a newby question, but how do you do a knee while recovering?

For example: you are hanging onto the edge and they are standing above it. You want to knee them as you come up off the edge.

Ive been looking at the topics here and I didn't see anything dealing with this, so I thought I'd ask. Can a more experienced falcon give me some tips or point me in the right direction?

An example can be found here at 2:36

Thanks

that's called a ledgehopped knee.
to ledge hop:
1 press away from the ledge to let go of the edge.
2 immediately doublejump onto the stage.
Get good at that, and then start doing an arial after you doublejump (cstick fwd for knee).

^this

grab ledge
tap down or back on control stick
immediately double jump using x/y
knee (cstick or a+control stick) while you DI onto the stage

simple as that. Once you get that down, learn to do the same with other aerials such as nair, uair, dair. Ledge hop nair is probably my favorite for when the opponent is on the stage and pretty much all ledge hopped aerials can lead into combos if performed in the right situation.

Actually recovering with an aerial is often a questionable choice however ...

Use bombs wisely

If you keep ledge hopping aerials your opponent will catch pretty quickly.

Learning to ledgehop ->waveland back off the stage (giving you a jump-> to lots of options) or toward the middle of the stage (past your opponent) are descent mix ups that you can also use so you dont get stale.

Thanks guys!

After practicing for a while, I've gotten it down pretty well. I've found that

1) over
2) y
3) (over on control stick) a

works the best because the y and the a are so close to each other whereas you kind of have to reach a bit for the c-stick.

Anyways, much appreciated.

edit: thanks for pointing out the restrictions. In my practice with a level 1 computer, I realized that it was pretty easy to interrupt. A human who expects it coming shouldn't have too much problem reacting appropriately I would think.

Yeah ... basically
<_<
It's not really very good for recovering from the ledge because most people will space themselves to work around ledgehopped aerials

It's useful for punishing laggy recoveries like Marth / Sheik

Ive practiced some more and Ive found that the trick is to tap over very lightly, then immediately press Y and then hit A. This is probably common knowledge, but it might help other people. Ive gotten it pretty nearly down.

My next objective is to practice other aerials besides the knee, although I assume the knee is going to be the most useful. Any thoughts here?

@witchblade: Do you mean practice so that (if you are on the right side of the stage) the knockback sends them to the right (and closer) blast line? How do you recommend I do/practice that?

Knee is best for punishing laggy recoveries when they're at high percents, however nair, uair, and even dair can lead into some pretty sick combos. Like ledgehop uair > uair > nair > knee I did to my friends ganon os YS today <3
his combo DI sucks

Back air can also be a decent edge guard if you sweetspot it right, watch vids of scar, I've seen him do that a lot.

You say "even dair" as if comboing from Dair is like ... hard or something ...

Not that it's hard, just that you don't see it as often as nair or uair, at least I don't sea it that often. It's actually really easy IMO, I just mostly use uair because it gets them if they land on a platform.

Yes, you space it so that the opponent flies away from the center of the stage. It kills at pretty low percents against most opponents. You can practice by putting a CPU or a human player controlled by yourself near the edge. Note that you can push people by walking into them. Tangentially, doing this against a resting jiggs and then falcon punching is called the 'Darkrain Escort'.

Against other falcons or ganons, you can hang on the edge while they are recovering, then when they are in the landing lag from their up-b you ledgehop a stomp and reverse knee them for the kill, or just reverse knee them straight away

If they're far enough away that you can react with a ledeghop stomp I'd rather just face them and knee before they reach the stage
