Hm, a genuine FREE gathering/tournament? Surprised at no venue fee (wouldn't have minded paying that) but free entry is great :D

(I'll try to!)

Yeah that's what brings so many people out.

We had over 600 competitors at our last GatorLAN in various tournaments, around 200 just for Melee and PM (a lot of which entered both games). This doesn't even encompass the other 900 people that were in the room that didn't compete, but engaged in the other various activities mentioned above, and watched the main stage (yes there is an elevated main stage) as players competed.

Not to mention that we had 1st - 3rd place prizing for all of the tournaments provided by our sponsors. We also had each top placing also come with a plaque indicating what place you finished at, and what game you placed in. And just because it's free, doesn't mean that we don't attract top players. Hungrybox, Colbol, Sartron, Ryo, Eikelmann, RagingCherry, and bunch of other top Florida smash players all came out. Sarton took PM over Colbol, and Colbol took Melee over Hungrybox. Probably should post pictures and add this info to the description lol.

Well, I'm not sure how this is going to turn out as Paragon is on the same day..

Yeah we're well aware of Paragon and how big a deal it is. Only issue is that we have to schedule our events an entire year in advance since we're renting out one of the largest venues on UF campus. We're expecting a bit of a hit to our numbers for smash, but not too severe since smash is HUGE in Gainesville. Those who can't afford going to Paragon will most likely show for this event, and students will definitely show up since GatorLAN is one of the biggest events on campus. Plus, there's going to be another GatorLAN in April, which means, we'll most likely get some of Florida's best players for that. In any case, we're going to run this event as best we can regardless.

Oh, cool. I'll hopefully make it for April (my birthday is within that month). Hope it turns out well!
