I see so many players asking about specific codes that they want to add or (god forbid someone wants to remove! e.e,) and generally receiving a bit of a backlash from the community. Often times they are put down and fed many excuses like "our code lists are too complex and interwoven to be changed! Removing footstool on taunt can lead to save data corruption!, (yes someone actually said that >.<,) Just play it how its meant to be played!" etc etc. I understand that you don't want the source code out there for people to steal what makes PM unique, before its... *finished* but will it ever actually be finished? its been 4 years already! Experimenting with the codes myself i have found a vast majority are quite stable, (yes some codes can be rather risky to modify if you don't understand them, like the clone engine. but the average player wouldn't need to modify those)
Me and my friend have fully decrypted the code list, and have been respecting PM's wishes by not releasing it. nor do we have plans to. We do try to help with what we can by creating various GCT' files for players who need help, but we can only do so much on our own. How does everyone else feel about it? I'm legitimately curious about the fanbase's feelings on the issue, as its something that always put me off modding PM in the past. How do you all feel PM stacks against other mods? Does it ever feel stagnant after a while? Does it ever affect what mods you play? What mods do you prefer? (I.E. Brawl minus, Balanced brawl, Brawl+) and finally does it influence builds and content you create?
To start off the convo, It would be close between PM and Brawl Minus. I like the game play of both, i really like the gravity and physics of PM, along with the special modes, tho i like that its simple to customize Minus. Because Minus is easier to change i tend to play it more often, There are things i dislike about both however. In PM as soon as i had the codes, "no reverse edge grab," "footstool on taunt," and "butterfingers" were the first codes to go. >.> It put me off PM for a long time.
I started thinking, "Hey what if i could take what i liked about both mods and combine them?" and got started on the team for PM DiY. The goal is to give PM as much freedom as possible, keeping the core intact but being able to refresh it as often as we feel like. Our current, private build includes things from MANY mods. PM, Brawl Minus, Brawl+ and a few custom codes we've added ourselves. Naturally we were hit with quite a few brick walls by the devs when we asked for help, (some flat out ignoring us altogether) Oddly that may have been the force that really pushed us along xD. We were finally able to do what we set out to do, but it would have been far easier to achieve if there was a documented code list.
