Welcome Message
You know it was coming. We deserve it! While we still had no NJ tournaments, we were active in every region we can possibly be to keep ourselves one of the top states around. Now I am here to rescue the NJ community! After a long hard search, I have found a venue that is close enough to NY so they can attend, as well as a venue big enough so we can hold 60+ people. Congrats NJ, the wait is finally over!

Major, and Minor Updates
If you bring a setup and we use it, you will receive a discount!
This does not mean you are guaranteed a setup discount if you brought one. We have to actually give you an OK to use it! Sticking your setup in and setting it up randomly without telling us will not get you a discount! You must bring it and check it in at the T.O desk to see if it will be used. Your name will be written down stating that you have a setup and need to be reimbursed. This also prevents players from getting anything stolen, or people randomly taking it.
Also to note, your setup must maintain there throughout the whole event. If you leave early, you will not receive a setup discount. All setups brought and used will be reimbursed during the end of the event!
Full setup: $5.00
TV: $3.00
Wii/Cube: $2.00

Extra Rules
B.Y.O.C. = BRING YOUR OWN CONTROLLER! The venue will not provide a controller for you nor will we.
- Double blind character selection may be called for the first match
- 35 Ledge grab rule (80 for doubles per team). If you time out each other in a match and you go over 35 ledge grabs (80 for doubles) you lose that match.
- Scrooging: If you fly under the stage, you must land on the stage in order to repeat flying under the stage again. The moving platform, or any other platform that is distant from the stage (IE: Smashvilles Moving platform) does not count as landing on the stage. First offense is a loss of stock, 2nd offense is a loss of match, 3rd offense is a loss of set.
- All Infinites are banned excluding Ice climbers Chain Grabs, and all small step chain grabs are banned. Wall infinites are NOT banned.
- Infinite/extended dimensional cape is banned.
- All Excessive "Stall" tactics are banned.
- Controller Mods are banned
- If there is a dispute over controller ports, play Rock Paper Scissors for it ( if you guys cannot do this I will flip a coin)
- Suicide Move Rules: (all situations are when both players are at 1 stock)
- If a player successfully ends the match with either Bowser or Ganondorf's over B attack by suicide, then the player who initiated the move wins.
- If a player ends the match by swallowing with Kirby or DDD and falling off the stage and the game counts it as a tie, the player who initiated the swallow move wins. If the player who was swallowed is shown as winning the match (in the instance the broke out right before they died which some people might not notice), then they win.
- No pausing in-game. Pausing in-game will result in the loss of a stock. The second warning will be loss of a match. The ONLY exception is, if a host(s) asks you to pause.
- In the event of a TIE at the end of the time limit, the player with the most stocks wins. If both players have one stock then it is decided by percentage. If both players have ONE STOCK and SAME PERCENTAGE the players will quit the SUDDEN DEATH, set the stock to one, and start a match with stage being the same as where they had the tie. This will determine the winner.
- Each Round is best of three matches; Grand/Losers/Winners Finals are best of five matches*
- Singles seeding will be based on Region/Rankings with some courtesy to crews – you will be spaced evenly as to prevent playing each other in the first round. One of the two criteria must be fulfilled in ordered to be favored. You MUST have 3 or more people in a group hailing from the same region, or you must be part of a crew. Teams seeding will also be seeded in the same way.

General Knowledge
Players are responsible for their own general welfare in regard to the tournament environment. In other words, players are responsible for:
- Stage List and Rule Set Familiarity
- Venue and Entry Fees
- Arriving On Time
- Maintaining Personal Hygiene
- Controllers and Character Knowledge
- Minimizing Whining
Tournament Hosts should keep the following in mind:
- Tournament sets are usually based on bracket positions, which may be seeded at your discretion. If your tournament is to be run in any other format, you must advertise it accordingly.
- Some kind of stalling prevention is highly recommended. Since a definition of stalling is too potentially ambiguous here, all instances of stalling are determined by you.
- Unnecessary delays in a set should be discouraged. These delays can occur before (players not playing the set), during (players taking an unnecessary amount of time to counterpick) or after (players not reporting results) a set. The tournament Host is recommended to keep tabs on set status and completion.
- No more than the previous match should be replayed in the event of a rule violation. It is recommended that any disputes be brought promptly and quickly to the Tournament Host’s attention. Special exceptions may be made to this rule per your discretion.
- When running a pool, the game count of each set should be recorded (whether the set was 2-0 or 2-1). Ranking in a pool is determined by the number of sets won. There are several methods of determining a tie-break, but each has advantages and disadvantages. It is the TO's responsibility to determine which method they will be using, advertise which method they will be using in the tournament thread, and to consistently use that method across all pools during the tournament.
- The semi-final and championship sets should be, at minimum, Best of 5.
- Wireless controllers should be discouraged or banned due to interference, unreliability, and time hindrance.
- The Tournament Host reserves the right to, at any time, make anyone leave the premises of the tournament.
- For all Melee Tournaments, Metaknight is banned.
***Term Definitions***
- Double Blind: Either player may request that a double blind selection occur. In this situation, a 3rd party should be told, in secret, each of player’s choices for the first round. Both players are to then select their first round character, with the 3rd party validating that the character selected is the same as their word.
- Contest Port Priority: If an agreement cannot be made as to who gets what port, the players may enact a best of 1 game of Rock Paper Scissors. Winner gets their port selection, loser selects any other port.
- Neutral Start: Either player may enact this rule. Once enacted, both players may only use one of the two “Neutral Starting Positions”. A best of one game of Rock Paper Scissors may be used to determine who gets the higher port. If one player elects to Contest Port Priority and the other elects to Neutral Start, Neutral Start takes priority.

- Standard DSR: A player/team may not counterpick to a stage they have won on.
- DSR Modified: A player/team may not counterpick to the stage they last won on.
- Gentleman’s Clause: Any stage may be played on if both players agree to it. This rule takes priority over DSR.
- Forced Character Selection: The losing player once had the option to select Random Stage as their counterpick and remove the option to change characters from the winner of the previous round. This is no longer legal. If a player wishes to select Random Stage as their counterpick, the winner of the previous round may choose to change their character.
- Stage Striking: Players eliminate stages from the Starter/Neutral list until there is one stage remaining.
Players strike stages in this order:
