Hey all, I decided to create my first actual thread on Smashboards.

Now that the updated cBliss Tool is out for Project M 3.5, I figured I should share some of the recolors I have done for P:M's gorgeous alternate costumes.

There will also be recolors for any mods not specific to P:M that catch my eye.

Please note that, for now, this is not a request thread, just a thread to share my work with you, the readers.

Not all portraits have been done for all characters. If you are strictly a cBliss user, a temporary fix is to simply use blank portraits or the cBliss portrait templates (the ones with the numbers).

All credit goes to the original creators of these mods!

I am proud of this work thus far, but I'm always open to suggestions and tips for improvement. And of course, there will definitely be recolors of more alts.

Please enjoy! And thanks for checking this thread out.

Okay, so cBliss lets you expand the amount of available recolors for your characters.

http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=33347 <<< Mewtwo2000's cBliss Tool. Just follow the tutorial there.

Once your code is set up, you're gonna wanna rename the files I've done into FitCharacterXX, Character being the character's name and XX being any number after the last number used (usually 07, 08, 09, or 10). Put those in the fighter folder.

Then insert either my CSPs or blank .pngs into the common5, and you should be good to go.

Alternatively, if you're in a rush, just use them over the normal slots, without cBliss. It works either way.

Shoot me a PM if you need more help.

Will you be updating this thread every once in a while? Cause I like the recolors. Just gotta get my PM up and running again.

How do you insert CSPs anyway? Doesn't Mewtwo2000's CBliss Tool only update the GCT?

I mean, the thread just started, and I've been updating it already, so ye. And thank you for liking them! I'm glad if even a handful of folks do, aha.

Yes, the tool only updates the .gct. CSPs have to be imported manually into the common5.pac.

Whoa! It has been a while, hasn't it? My apologies to the mods if I'm updating too late, I'm not entirely sure what the policy is when updating one's own thread after a set amount of time.

So! P:M 3.6 saw an update to Concept Art Meta Knight, and I absolutely love the new work so... I have six recolors for the alt waiting to be used! First post has been updated with the link.

These are really cool! I love the little touches, like the Sonic Team logo on blue Jet Set Sonic and the twilight portal on Outset Link. If you're taking requests, I'd like to see Big Boss Snake or Gi Lucario get some more colors. Specifically red colors, since those are the ones I'd like to use.

Here's hoping you can eventually fill the Cblissed roster with alts! I'd put them all in my build.

EDIT: Also, I'd love to see some recolors of original costumes in your style.

Sad to say but I'm not taking requests quite yet, as the first post says. I'm actually trying to get back into making recolors so I still have a ways to go before I take requests.

But on the Vault, my man ledgerewskie has a pack of Big Boss alts that come with 45 (!) costumes to choose from.

http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=207213

And there's also a Ken-inspired Gi Lucario on the Vault as well.

http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=207387

I highly suggest using those.

Also, you wanna see original costumes? You mean like the stuff for P:M Unlocked or the stuff bizzozeron has made? That's definitely a possibility. Perhaps if I open requests later on I can do them.

Thanks for the links! Actually, I was talking about additional recolors for original as in "costume #1" costumes. Some characters have pretty uninspired colors to choose from, so it would be nice to see them get more variety. Sorry for not reading the whole OP, my bad.

Oh, you mean the standard costumes. (At least that's what I hope you mean.) I dunno, I feel like there are a lot of (and better quality) recolors of the vBrawl costumes already on the Vault to pick from. The alts are the ones I think deserve more love on that front.

Dark Meta Knight has been added! And Jet Set Sonic and SNES Captain Falcon now have six costumes each! Grab them while they're still fresh.

orangeCSP.png
PurpCSP.png
RedCSP.png

there are more, but i have to make another reply as there are 3 pics max i can upload. it should be on my next comment.

When taking pictures in Brawlbox, are you making sure to do so with transparent background?
well, i use a mac and due to wine bottler (the program used to run .exe apps) is limited in some ways, i can't locate my screenshots on my mac despite it saying that there is a file when running BB. It's a little weird. that's why that instead, i take a screenshot of the model portion of my the BB window with my mac and then edit it. i can't make it transparent the way brawl box does.

EDIT: nvm, i just had to change the save location :/

My deal with this CSP thing is that I need them to be recolors of the CSPs already present in P:M, for consistency's sake. I'm going to eventually get around to working on them, but that'll be on some down time when I'm not making actual recolors.

I do appreciate the help though. I can upload these for use to my Dropbox later.

Could I trouble you to post that info here? Then you won't have to PM everyone that asks.
Well, to be blunt, this isn't a thread on how to get cBliss working for 3.6. This is a thread for edits I make to models made for 3.6. I don't mind sending people help via PM because it keeps this thread on-topic. I can instruct on what method I use that works, but if you want a better understanding then you'll have to either ask around or wait for Mewtwo2000 to release a cosmetic pack built for 3.6 + cBliss. Either way you'll need to use the cBliss Tool, then edit some cosmetics.

That said, my method will be in your inbox.

Update time!

So the CSP process has finally begun for some characters. Ganondorf, Sonic and Toon Link now have CSPs, BPs and Stock icons! Sonic's Jet Set Radio Future alt portrait assets were done by @Winchester7314 (they had done them before I could do my own, so kudos to them!).

In addition, Toon Link now has six recolors, and Ganondorf has a new recolor, replacing the orange one I had previously.

Here are Toon Link's recolors:

Here are what Toon Link's alts look like. Each one is, as you can see, based off of various Zelda things. They're all fairly easy to figure out.

Also, I've been busy working on recolors for a handful of characters, but I won't say who yet. They will be revealed next month.

However, CSPs will be developed for the time being, so until next moth please enjoy the work I have done so far. And stay tuned!

Here are some CSPs I whipped up for some of my recolors in an attempt to actually HAVE cosmetic stuff for them.

OoT Ganondorf:

Jet Set Sonic:

(Winchester's work is of better quality than my own when it comes to these CSPs, aha.)

Don't get me wrong, these CSPs were a rather rushed job considering making the recolors are of higher priority to me than the assets. That said, I am sure that these don't look incredibly out of place when in use in Project M, as the quality of the assets are reduced in an attempt to keep space open for more files. I went with working with the original portrait stuff in order to maintain consistency.

I hope these CSPs suit your needs regardless!

Great work so far! Have some critique.

One thing I've noticed about certain recolours is that the value balances are a little weird relative to Brawl's values. This isn't exactly a bad thing, as it sometimes works really well in tandem with the proper hues. However, it's just something to be mindful of. Take your orange hat blue overall Mr. L recolour, for example. The overalls are far too saturated relative to Brawl's "default" value balance.

Also, just some general advice: 1. Take some time and study Brawl's artstyle, paying particular attention to value levels, hues, colour balance, and the general "rules" that are applied to each individual characters. When I say rules, I mean that there are certain design principles that are never broken in order to maintain consistency among the costumes. Eye/skin colour never changes, certain objects are always the same hue as other objects, etc. You don't have to follow them strictly but it does create a nice consistency among your recolours, and they're often broken within Brawl itself (Dark Link being a prime example)

2. Go check out Valve's Dota 2 art guides. I've said this a lot, but they're applicable to basically any game. You can find em easily on Google. They cover things like colour harmony, value balancing, silhouettes (more applicable to completely new costumes but still good knowledge), and more.

Other than that, keep up the good work duderino.

Looking throughout the work I've been doing I agree with this 100%. Working with the colors that I do, some things wind up looking too bright or saturated. I will have to work on some recolors to fix that, especially that Luigi as you mentioned, as it is indeed something I noticed but also something I didn't think would require immediate fixing.

My biggest fear is that all of these recolors wind up looking inconsistent. Granted, I intentionally DO break consistency for some recolors on purpose, as sort of "special case" recolors out of personal taste, but other than that I'd like them to be as uniform as I can make them.

2. Go check out Valve's Dota 2 art guides. I've said this a lot, but they're applicable to basically any game. You can find em easily on Google. They cover things like colour harmony, value balancing, silhouettes (more applicable to completely new costumes but still good knowledge), and more.
I'll have to take a glance through these guides then.

Thank you so much for the critique! I appreciate it very much. Hopefully my brain will be able to process this all and I can improve, aha.

Oh hey! You're the guy who did the Mr. L recolours! Big fan!
Even though they don't match the visual style like Blerb mentioned, far better than Project M's...

Hello all! It's been a while... all of two months and some change?

Needless to say, life has been a bit hectic, but I've had time for a few texture things here and there. And I do come with something new to share.

Firstly, I will not be uploading any more recolors for any PM alts. Due to general lack of interest from anyone here or on Kitty Corp, I feel no need to share anything else I've done for PM. That in itself doesn't bother me too much, considering I myself have lost interest in doing recolors for the alts, and admittedly, while decent for my first time attempting them, they could be a lot better.

There are, however, some mods made by independent creators that have caught my eye, which brings me to my next point...

Secondly, I come supplying recolors for 500YearOldGrandpa's Phantom Ganon mod! Yes, now one of the best Ganon mods this side of the Mississippi has a bunch of palettes to use thanks to yours truly. Download link is in the first post.

I figured now would be a good time to release these, considering the hype for BronzeGreekGod's Project Ganondorf mods. The recolors themselves are very simple, nice for placeholders until someone else makes anything better?

I also have another set of recolors ready for a mod that I, for one, was hoping for the moment a certain game dropped. Needless to say, the hype for someone to create said mod was building up inside of me.

Okay, enough rambling. I'm likely not gonna update this for a while after my next upload, but thank you to all who read this and use my stuff! I really appreciate it. Stay tuned for my next upload! And hopefully I can find more things to work with. c:

Hey, sorry to hear you're discontinuing this. I really enjoyed these recolors. Thanks for putting out what you did! And, if I had to venture a guess at what you're hinting to... Would it be a Mario Maker alt?

I'll be looking out for your future projects. You've got a lot of talent!

Okay, see, I really appreciate this because you've stuck around since the beginning, so thank you so much for your kind words and support! It's nice to have a fan, hehe

As for what's next? It's totally NOT a Mario Maker set. Not at all. Nope. No way. Maybe.

I think I'll have some more stuff to work on for a bit, then I'll have to do a bit of searching and see what catches my eye. I suppose the reason why I'm keeping this thread here is because the "non-PM" content DOES work for Project M as well? Plus I may cave and upload the rest of what I HAVE done in terms of PM alts. Only time will tell!
