1. Turn on your 3DS.
2. Make sure it is on at all times.
3. Charge it overnight when it is low on batteries, make sure to place it over a fabric that heats up easily such as wool or cotton.
4. Watch the plastic weaken due to the heat and energy.
5. Make sure you play with it enough so that the hinges break and become useless.

This happened to me mainly because of the Smash 3DS demo, although it was a very minor crack. It came back to haunt me today when the right hinge suddenly chipped off, and now the 3DS is basically hanging off one hinge and some duct tape which is failing to do the job. At least I can still play the game, unlike those who lost their Circle Pads.

My goodness. Is there any other game for the 3DS that has been nearly as lethal to the hardware (Circle pad, the hinges, what have you) as Smash is?

..What trophy are you gonna buy there?

Super Smash Bros. destroying 3DS systems in 2014.

Seriously, has any game ever caused so much damage before? I mean, there was Wii remotes flying through TV screens. But that was kinda on the player not using the strap (Looking at you, past self)

I fail to see how this is the fault of Smash.

You're right. It's a 3DS issue. Really the 3DS just can't properly handle SSB4. It needs the New 3DS to have everything work (posting screen shots to Miiverse etc etc) and not have the console heat up so much amongst other things.

Nintendo made a game that the old 3DS just does not have the specs to run properly.

my 3ds hasnt taken a single hint of damage in a month of play on smash. And ive put more hours on smash in that month than i have on the 3ds since i got the damn thing lol.
You people who physically damage your 3ds playing this game need to chill out.

Without a doubt, it's definitely the players' fault damaging their 3DSs, but Smash Bros. does require a lot more action from the user than other games. Regardless, people mostly just need to be more gentle.

I know what happened here.

You hooked up to your charger near your bed, with a very low battery after playing all day, intending to play for a few hours before hitting the pillow, but didn't have enough power and didn't want to move your charger, so you stayed in bed.
You quickly fell asleep on top of your 3DS, open and running. You rolled over onto it, or maybe forced it under your feather pillow, and found it in the morning, hot like you just pulled it out of the microwave, probably under your back or butt... and the damage was done.
