You have to dash dance. You can walk sometimes to mix it up, but you should be DD and wavedashing most of the time.

pretty sure that @Cool is mostly meaning that in response to the idea you seem to have that dashdancing is pointless/"doesn't really work"—not anything having to do with using walk to space.
