You can't escape it mid-grab. You can, however:
1. Dodge it altogether.
2. Influence the movement by pushing the control stick away from the edge and onto the stage. The amount you can push depends on how much damage you have versus how much he has.

if youre friend is player 1 he will win. if you are player 1 it will go to sudden death. always make sure youre player one if your friend is going to do that.

Whoever has the least damage has the most control over it. If he has more damage than you, all you need to do is hold towards the stage and he can't kill you with it.

You can always choose Sonic and run circles and Dash attacks around him.
Then whenever you kill him, you use his Side Taunt.
Then whenever you kill him, you use his Side Taunt.
