Well, Pit had never fought Mewtwo or Roy before, but he did know Lucas from Brawl so... yeah.

Still, I want Ultimate to truly feel like a complete package, and that means ideally no cut corners! Hell, even Cloud doesn't feel like a "guest" anymore, why can't the rest of the DLC get the same treatment as their precious stupid potted plant?

Cause that plant was obviously meant to be the oddball character at the tail end of development for the base roster. Traditionally, those are the last characters to be revealed for a base roster. Dude barely got to make it in.

It's because of the risk of the codec conversations leaking early and spoiling the surprise. With the Plant, it was revealed before the game even came out, so there was no problem. It was also very likely planned from the start.

The whole dang game was done on short notice. 3 years sounds long, but it really isn't for a dev.

At any rate, at least now we know that if anyone is to get a PG, it's base game or bust.

Look I am dissapointed too, but me thinks you're blowing this WAY out of proportion. Last thing we want to be is looking like the fanatics who complain that not everything is 100% the way they wanted.

I too have my own expectations/wants for Joker's moveset/P5's representation (cameos, spirits, a codec, etc.) but at the same time I know that there is that 50/50 chance it may not happen. Heck I'm just happy Joker/P5 is even in this game at all, that's already a major victory in itself.

Perhaps, but it depends really if Nintendo/Sakurai managed to get time to schedule recording sessions for ALL the PT VAs.

And I'm not referring to just the ENG version but also the JPN version especially when most/all of the PT japanese VAs are big-time seiyuus/artists who likely have very busy schedules (Joker's, Ryuji's, Ann's, Yusuke's, Futaba's and I guess Haru's come to mind when you look up who they are). Heck I remember reading that Sakurai said that he had some trouble finding the time to get the VAs to voice Joker's reveal trailer during the Game Awards as is.

So if there IS no Palutena's Guidance for Joker or an equivalent for him and PTs: Yes it's a wasted opprtunity, but hardly a sign of "laziness".

This. Last thing I want to happen is this thread acting all whiny and over-entitled that Joker/P5's representation didn't math our expectations 100%. I mean for Pete's sake, we shouldn't be like the other character threads seeing as we actually have our character confirmed already.

Same goes for "Don't bite the hand that feeds you." Last thing I want is Persona fans becoming like the die-hard Waluigi fanatics. Sad part is that the Persona fanbase imo is too used to being spoiled heavily with content (I mean look at all the spinoffs and expanded media).

I feel like "Joker was a wasted opportunity" is a hyperbolic reaction to not having easter egg dialogue. Like, yes, I'd like to see it happen, but it would take a lot of extra resources to make something Nintendo has no real obligation to do - the DLC comes with a character, a stage, and music. They didn't promise extra easter eggs or spirits or anything else - just a playable P5 Protagonist with a stage and music.

Like, this is partly Nintendo's fault, as everyone has formed an idea of how they believe Joker/Persona 5/Persona/MegaTen/ATLUS should be represented in the interim since The Game Awards didn't show us details. Some of us going to be disappointed. He may only use only Arsene if you want him to use the power of the Wild Card, or he may use the Wild Card if you want him to use Arsene. His stage may be Mementos or The Castle of Lust or The Casino of Envy or The Velvet Room or a transforming stage or something else entirely (heck, they haven't even offically promised the stages will be related to the characters) - each of which would disappoint some people. His alternate costumes may reference the 7 other Phantom Thieves or previous Persona/MegaTen protagonists - each of which would disappoint some people. The music he comes with may be not what people want... We just need to trust Sakurai and his team will do what they believe will be the most enjoyable for fans and non-fans alike.

In conclusion, a pipe dream came true with Joker being in the game at all. Let's not judge him for what he isn't and instead appreciate him for what he is.

Hmm, I've being trying to think of ideas for that spirit battle as well. I expect the Inkling would mostly try to avoid combat, while being protected by another character. I was thinking they'd either be a fighter representing Sojiro (I was thinking or for him, maybe...) , Wakaba (I dunno, or , perhaps?), or it could just be Joker, I guess.

Joker would probably make the most sense IMO, so I personally would go with that.

They also have to have the fight take place on Fourside, so the UFO can reference Futaba's Persona. There could also be the added conditions that Joker gets buffed throughout the fight, and the Galaga item constantly spawns.

Sakurai had said that the characters in the fighter pass would come with a stage and some music, nothing else besides. So it stands to reason that it may very well be a case of exact words, so I'm not expecting anything else coming with Joker other than spirits, if even that.

from what i've read online the reason they didn't do any codec calls beyond the ones they had from ssbb is because the japanese voice actor for roy campbell died and they wished to retire his role out of respect for him

That's what I want to know. I was told around here that he did some minor new voicework for said moveset.

Well, he did get to publicly say that new codecs were not being recorded. That's something, I guess. Otherwise, the closest thing I could find was an article stating that he revised the lines he already did for Brawl.

If we were to get spirits, I imagine it would be acceptable as it would not be part of the fighter's pass. It'd just be bonus free DLC to promote the fighter's pass. That said, I won't be heartbroken if they don't add in .PNG files of our waifus and husbandos.

I mean, TBH, the only real way Joker could disapoint me is if they do something abosultely insane like make it so he cannot summon any personas in his move-set. Now that would be a wasted opportunity.

Like the spirits argument in general, I'd say it's only really true for a given wave if anything.

Recent developments do make a theory hold a bit less water; at the very least any argument in favor using Plant as an example has pretty much been shot, since it's now clear he was treated differently from the DLC, almost like a base character.
